Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3, primeras impresiones del nuevo phablet de la compañía

El Mobile World Congress 2015 ya ha llegado a su fin, pero nosotros todavía tenemos muchas cosas que mostraros. En esta ocasión es el momento de ver en vídeo nuestras primeras impresiones con el nuevo Alcatel OnteTouc Idol 3. El terminal, que ya podía probar nuestro compañero Cristian Rus, se presentaba el pasado domingo, y lo hacía en dos versiones distintas, una de 4,7 pulgadas, y otra de 5,5 pulgadas, que es el modelo que veremos a continuación.

Estas son las especificaciones del Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 de 5,5 pulgadas:

Como vemos, estamos ante un terminal de gama media, en el que destacan, entre otras cosas, su pantalla IPS con resolución Full HD, su procesador Qualcomm Snapdragon 615, un completo apartado de conectividad, y el hecho de que ya tenga Android Lollipop, algo habitual en la mayoría de smartphones del congreso, aunque aún quedaba algún rezagado.

Ahora, es el momento de ver en vídeo todos los detalles de este Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3, que llegará a España en el mes de junio, con un precio de 249 euros –199 euros para el modelo más pequeño–:

Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.24 con importantes actualizaciones

El software de código abierto para virtualización de Oracle, ahora llega con su versión renovada VirtualBOx 4.3.24. Trae importantes mejoras y bugs corregidos, además estará preparado para correr con el nuevo kernel Linux 4.0, del cual ya hemos hablado en otros artículos. Concretamente se ha corregido el bug #13835 para ello.

Ya sabemos que el kernel Linux 4.0 (renombrado así por Torvalds, y anteriormente denominado Linux 3.20) ya se encuentra en su etapa de desarrollo RC2 y es importante que este proyecto tan utilizado pueda estar soportado en él. Para eso han trabajado duro, y mimando hasta el último detalle, los desarrolladores de Oracle.

A veces se ha criticado a Oracle por algunas cuestiones que provienen de la comparación de ésta con la antigua Sun Microsystems, y tal vez a muchos de nosotros nos gustaría que continuase la Sun. Pero lo cierto es que en otros aspectos, Oracle está haciendo un gran trabajo y VirtualBox es un ejemplo de ello. Un software gratuito y abierto que poco tiene que envidar a VMWare.

The Microsoft Lumia 640 is already up for pre-order in Europe

This year at MWC we saw not one, but two new Lumia smartphones. The Microsoft Lumia 640 and its bigger brother, the Lumia 640 XL. Only a few days later the former model has already been put up for pre-order in the Microsoft store for Germany, France and UK.

There are, however some interesting inconsistencies across the stores. While the latter two offer the Dual-SIM version of the handset, the UK store has listed, what appears to be the single-SIM variant. To further confuse things, prices also appear to differ. The German store, which was indeed the first to put-up the offer, has set a price of EUR 159, whereas the smartphone goes for EUR 179 on the French website. This might be due to TAX differences, but the fact that the single-SIM model is listed for GBP 169.99, or about EUR 236 in the UK page is quite puzzling. All of the devices are, however described as LTE-enabled.

The UK store does also state that the Lumia 640 will be available starting April 7, whereas in the German and French sites this date has been pushed forward to April 16. Despite the odd, inconsistent listing the fact is that Microsoft doesn't intend to waste any time getting the smartphone on the market. What is your take on the matter? Xiaomi to launch a new device in India, should be Redmi 2

Xiaomi has a new contest in India, held via the official Facebook page. There you must find three words into a word puzzle and then you automatically participate for winning one of the three gadgets.

The puzzle has words such as 'Quick Charge', 'Wide angle', 'expandable', 'matte' and 'Cortex'. These should suggest the Redmi 2, since the Redmi 1S is out of stock already, while the Mi Note Pro is yet to be released later this year.

Hopefully Xiaomi doesn't make exclusive the Redmi 2 to Flipkart as it did with the previous Redmi 1S smartphone. The Redmi 2 is already available in China and it is about time Xiaomi launches it in India as well.
