Alleged Gionee Elife E8 render points at full metal body

An alleged image of the unannounced Gionee Elife E8 appeared online showing a metallic body, just like in the recently launched Elife S7. Rounded corners and chamfered edges are prominent in the render, as is a dedicated camera button.

The smartphone is rumored to feature a 23MP camera that can capture up to 100MP images. Support for 4K video capture will also be present.

HTC said to cut One M9 component orders by 30%

HTC seems to not be selling as many One M9 units worldwide as it had anticipated before the device's launch. While exact numbers are hard to come by, we assume the Taiwanese company would have publicly bragged if it had reached some impressive milestones.

Instead, HTC is now rumored to be cutting component orders for the One M9 by 30%. This obviously means it's not moving enough phones to justify keeping the current component order levels.

The information allegedly comes from "sources at Taiwan's handset supply chain", so do take it with a small pinch of salt. Then again, the situation it describes does not feel at all implausible.

The aforementioned sources go on to claim that sales of the One M9 have been "flat", because it basically looks exactly like its predecessor and doesn't have any distinguishing hardware features when compared to its direct competitors.

On top of all that, Chinese vendors such as Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Lenovo, and Coolpad are all attacking HTC's lower-tier models, thus making it harder for the company to sell more entry-level and midrange offerings.

iPhone 5c with Touch ID sensor spotted on Apple website

Apple recently introduced its official Lightning dock. On this accessory's page over on the Apple store website, there are a handful of pictures showing the company's various smartphones attached to the dock.

That's where the image you can see on the left shows up. This is a device that looks like the iPhone 5c from two years ago, but it clearly has the Touch ID fingerprint sensor embedded in its Home button – which the iPhone 5c doesn't.

This naturally leads us to wonder whether this is simply a render created by mistake by an Apple employee (who maybe forgot about the lack of Touch ID on the iPhone 5c), or if it's something more.

See, an iPhone 6c has long been rumored over the past few months, and it was said to come later this year with a 4-inch touchscreen just like the 5c before it. The Touch ID fingerprint scanner was featured in the rumors as a given for the new affordable model, by the way.

Samsung Galaxy A8 to come with a 5.5-inch screen after all

The Samsung Galaxy A8 is the most recent member of the A-series, yet to become official. It's position at the top of the lineup led to suspicions that a 5.7-inch screen would be used, but a GFXBench listing aims to refute that claim.

According to the entry on the benchmark's website the Galaxy A8 will come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, the same as the one used in the Galaxy A7. The device will bring a few of the specs up a notch, compared to the A7 and the 16MP camera is one such improvement, confirmed by the listing.

The rest of the specs are very much in line with previous info and include a Snapdragon 615 chipset, though its processor is clocked somewhat unusually at 1.4GHz. 2GB of RAM are on board and internal storage is 16GB, of which 12GB are left to the user.

Obviously, the benchmark doesn't reveal if the Galaxy A8 will come with a fingerprint sensor as suggested before. However, with such modest changes over the A7 elsewhere, the key feature would make sense to justify the higher model number.

Elephone P8000 packs a 4,200 cell and 3GB of RAM for $210

Elephone is among the emerging Chinese manufacturers that aims to make a name for itself by offering affordable, yet well-equipped smartphones. The upcoming P8000 is one such example and it offers plenty of bang for the buck.

The smartphone's chief claim to fame is its worldwide LTE support, a rarity with less prominent Chinese offerings. The functionality is delivered by Mediatek's MT6753 chipset, announced a few months ago. It is basically an underclocked version of the more popular MT6752, and the octa-core processor within it ticks at 1.5GHz.

Much like the P7000 which it doesn't replace, but rather complements, the P8000 is built around a 1080p 5.5-inch display. Elephone has fitted the P8000 with 3GB of RAM, though internal storage is less impressive at 16GB. A microSD slot hasn't been quoted by the source, but the P7000 has it, and we expect the P8000 to come with one as well.

It doesn't stop there and the Elephone P8000 packs an ample 4,200mAh battery. A 13MP main camera, joined by a 5MP selfie shooter takes care of capturing memories, and a fingerprint sensor on the back is another welcome tick on the specsheet.

The device runs Android 5.0 Lollipop upon launch, but the best part is that according to the source, all of the above will set you back a mere $210.
