The Apple Watch accounted for two-thirds of smartwatch shipments in 2015

It is hardly surprising that Apple cashed-in big last holiday season, but it is interesting to note that according to Canalys, the company’s smartwatch did particularly well, shipping 12 million units. Canalys estimates that this constitutes around two-thirds of all shipments – impressive volume indeed.

In this chart, Cupertino is followed closely by Samsung with the Gear S2, which returned to the runner-up spot after releasing its improved designs. Pebble occupies the third spot and Huawei is forth. The latter is quite an impressive achievement form the Chinese OEM, which managed to top the likes of LG, despite having only one smartwatch to date.

But statistics get even more interesting in the realm of bands, which would also include wearables without an OS and third-party app support. Here the Fitbit reigns supreme, followed closely by Xiaomi’s Mi Bands, which sold just as well as the Apple watch at 13 million units during 2015. What this means is that the Fitbit actually outsold the Apple Watch in pure volume, possibly hinting that users still tend to go for more fitness-oriented wearables and let’s not forget – cheaper ones.

Analyst Daniel Matte commented on the matter saying:

Software increasingly belongs on the wrist, and this is the direction the market is going . As the next step along this path, the Fitbit Blaze is the right product for the company to develop. It is competitively priced and is still being squarely focused on fitness.

Canalyst’s numbers also estimate that Fitbit, Apple and Garmin together contributed to an astounding growth of over 60% sequentially to the entire wearable device…

Marshmallow is rolling out now to the T-Mobile LG G4

After first appearing on LG Bridge, the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is rolling out now over the air to the T-Mobile LG G4.

Detailed on T-Mobile’s website, the latest software build is H81120i, and it weighs in at around 963MB. The only requirements for downloading the update are a data connection (obviously), 50% or higher battery life (that’s reasonable) and 963MB of free space (again, obviously).

Can We Forgive Hillary Clinton For Her Past War On Video Games?

I’m currently watching the internet wage a meme war on Hillary Clinton, as Bernie Sanders supporters try to paint her as an out of touch robot, while he’s instead a cool, hip grandpa. It’s much more civilized than the Republican dogfight, given its distinct lack of Trump, and certainly nowhere near as harsh as the GOP’s 25+ year attempting nuking of Hillary Clinton, which continues to this day, though it’s a bit eye-rolling all the same. But there’s one aspect of Hillary Clinton’s career that sticks out in my mind and in the minds of probably quite a few gamers close to my age, her 2005 war on violent video games.

Slackware 14.2 está más cerca que nunca

Slackware 14.2Aunque no es una distribución que tiene grandes desarrollos ni un calendario marcado, ni tan siquiera es rolling relese, Slackware sigue avanzando y sigue con su desarrollo. Hace unos días hemos visto como llegaba a nosotros la segunda beta de Slackware 14.2, la próxima versión de Slackware que actualizará a la distribución por completo.

Entre las novedades que podemos ver en Slackware 14.2 es la inclusión de todas las correcciones que los usuarios han reportado desde la versión estable y la primera versión beta. Algo que es positivo puesto que da más estabilidad si cabe a la distribución. También hemos visto como poco a poco Slackware 14.2 incorpora las últimas versiones de su paquetería. Así podemos ver como Firefox 44 está presente, Pidgin 2.10, Gparted 0.25, SeaMonkey 2.39, Coreutils 8.25, etc…

Slackware 14.2 estará dentro de poco entre nosotros

Si queréis probar Slackware 14.2, en este enlace encontrareis las imagenes de disco de la versión 32 bits y de la versión de 64 bits. El lanzamiento de la versión estable es aún desconocido, pero todo indica que será más pronto que nunca, ya que la versión presenta gran estabilidad y mucho software actualizado.

Slackware no se caracteriza por tener una distribución muy actualizada, es más, su desarrollo pareció que paró hace tiempo pero era sólo una ilusión puesto que ha seguido adelante durante mucho tiempo. Y eso es una gran noticia puesto que junto a Gentoo, Debian y RedHat, Slackware fue una de las primeras distribuciones que existió y una de las más libres que existían, aunque no era para todo el mundo.

Para utilizar Slackware se necesitaba grandes conocimientos, pero parece que hoy, poco a poco, se ha corregido ese problema y cualquier usuario puede instalarla y utilizarla, aunque claro está no como Ubuntu o Linux Mint. A pesar de todo Slackware 14.2 está cerca y seguro que más de uno se sorprenderá cuando salga ¿no creéis?
