iPhone 6s features revealed by insiders, Force Touch on board

The Apple iPhone 6/6 Plus is likely going to be replaced in September, as is customary for the Cupertino company. The successors are treated to an ongoing trickle of rumors and the latest report originating in the Far East reiterates some of the already circulating ones, but adds a few new ones as well.

For starters, the Force Touch feature, that debuted on the MacBook 12", will not only be present on the iPhone 6s/6s Plus, but will be a major selling point of the duo. There's still some controversy, whether the feature will make it to the smaller model, or will be exclusive to the larger version, but in all likelihood both models will have the functionality.

Speaking of sizes, the source claims that both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch diagonals will be retained, but the rumored smaller 4-inch version won't see the light of day, at least this year. The 5.5-inch model may be graced with a sapphire glass display, provided certain supply issues are resolved. Alternatively, there may be a limited edition with the added protection, while the mainstream models will come with the Ion-X glass currently employed.

The upcoming iPhones will be powered by Apple's new A9 chipset, and RAM will doubled to 2GB. Additionally, for the first time since the iPhone 4s there will be a step up in camera resolution, and the iPhone 6s will pack a 12MP shooter.

In terms of logistics and marketing, the new iPhones will enter mass production in late August, and 80 to 90 million units are expected to be sold, with the 4.7-inch model outnumbering its big brother two-to-one.

Obviously though, there's a good three to four months until the iPhone 6s/6s Plus become reality, so even if the above info is true now, it may end up changing by the time the smartphones become…

Motorola Droid Turbo gets price cut on Verizon

The Verizon Droid Turbo, which was made official back in October last year, has got a price cut, with the 32GB model now available for $500 sans contract (or $100 on contract), while the 64GB variant selling for $550 off contract (or $150 on contract).

Specs-wise, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 805 SoC with a quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 CPU, and sports a 5.2 inch (1440 x 2560 pixels) display. It comes with 3 GB RAM and 32/64GB internal memory options, and packs in a 3900 mAh battery.

Moto X 2013 expected to get Lollipop update in few weeks

Motorola has said that the first-generation Moto X, which was released back in 2013, should receive the Android Lollipop update in a few weeks.

"I am glad to announce that we are starting TestDrive in both the US and LatAm. If all goes well we should start full deployments in a few weeks," said the company's senior director of software product management David Schuster.

It's worth mentioning that the Lenovo-owned company has already announced that the device won't be getting Android 5.0, rather it will be updated directly from KitKat to Android 5.1. The news comes just a few weeks after Motorola started soak testing the Android 5.1 update for the device in Brazil.

Huawei Mate 8 phablet to sport QHD screen, 20MP camera

Huawei is already busy working on the successor to the Ascend Mate7 it launched last year. The upcoming phablet will be called just Mate 8, since the Chinese company is dropping the Ascend sub-brand this year.

So far, we've seen the Mate 8 purportedly pictured in a few live images back in January (one of those pictures is reproduced to the left). And now, many months later, we finally get a rumored spec list for the device.

The Mate 8 is supposedly going to come with QHD resolution for its touchscreen, which seems odd because the company's CEO once publicly bashed Xiaomi for using a QHD panel inside its Mi Note Pro. Perhaps in the meantime Richard Yu has realized the utility of higher-res displays.

Moving on, the new phablet should also get a 20.7MP rear camera, made by Sony. At the helm we shall find the Kirin 930 chipset with octa-core CPU.

The Mate 8 will keep the fingerprint scanner from its predecessor, along with the general design elements, all-metal construction, and Cat.6 LTE support. However, the display is said to be 'bezelless', continuing a nascent trend among Chinese smartphones (see the ZTE Nubia Z9, for example).
