Oppo R7 and R7 Plus officially announced

As expected, Oppo has just unveiled the highly anticipated pair of high end smartphones, the R7 and the R7 Plus. At a dedicated event held in Beijing, the company highlighted its 10-year history and proceeded to announce the flagship duo.

Both phones were regular visitors to the rumor mill and making them official brought little changes. The smaller one comes with a 5.0-inch AMOLED display of 1080p resolution behind 2.5D glass. The R7 Plus sports a 6-inch screen of the same resolution, which stretches edge to edge for that striking bezelless look.

Computing power comes courtesy of a Qualcomm 615 chipset with a 64-bit octa-core processor and 3GB RAM. Oppo claims that anything below that amount is limiting nowadays. Built-in storage is 16GB on the R7 and 32GB on the Plus, and a microSD slot is available if you are willing to live without the second SIM slot.

The R7 Plus comes with a 13MP main camera which utilizes an ISOCELL RGBW sensor. The company promises 78% less noise and 32% more light gathering capability. Phase detection autofocus and a single-LED flash complete the picture.

The R7 Plus packs a whopping 4,100mAh battery, while the smaller model has a 2,320mAh cell and Both devices support VOOC charging. A feature limited to the Plus is the fingerprint sensor on the back….

Oppo’s news Color OS 2.1 is now official

As part of the launch event for the R7 and R7 Plus handsets, held today, Oppo also officially unveiled the latest version of its own Color OS. This next major update is based on Android Lollipop and aims to bring Google's improved experience to the company's device line.

But, while the OS is being showcased alongside Oppo's brand new devices, a beta build already exists for the Oppo Find 7 and 7a, so we already have a pretty good idea as to what is has to offer.

The most apparent changes to Color OS are to the UI. The new Lollipop base has inspired a move to a new, flatter and simpler design. The design has also become brighter and a lot more dynamic. Icons have been redesigned as well. This includes the system apps, as well as custom icons for about 200 popular apps, so, you can expect a uniform look and feel across the launcher.

But Color OS 2.1 also has a lot more to show than a new prettier interface. Under the hood, the OS has undergone a lot of changes to make it faster and more responsive. Oppo boasts a reduced boot time, from 31 seconds in Color OS 2.0 to just 19 seconds in the new version. The platform is also said to be optimized for faster app launches, as well as several popular third-party applications, which should be a lot more-fluid.

Three new colors for the Droid Turbo will be out on May 28

Motorola's Droid Turbo for Verizon is still a top of the line offering, even by today's standards. And while it isn't running Android Lollipop yet (though it's said to get updated to version 5.1 directly), it will be offered in three new colors starting on May 28.

This isn't the first time Verizon and Motorola have launched new color variations for the Droid Turbo, so it's becoming something of a tradition. That said, owners of the handset would probably prefer software support to be better.

Anyway, in the image above you can see all three new variants. The 'base' color version is Gray Ballistic Nylon in all cases, what changes are the metallic highlights. You'll be able to choose from Metallic Blue, Metallic Orange, and Metallic Violet for those accents.

The new options are going to be available on May 28 both online and in Verizon stores. To grab either one, you'll need to shell out $499.99 if you want to pay "full retail price". Otherwise, you can choose the Edge plan, paying nothing upfront, then followed by 24 monthly installments of $20.83.

For a limited time, Verizon is offering $150 or more if you recycle your old phone (which must be in working condition) and purchase a Droid Turbo on the Edge plan. And if you bring your number to Verizon and activate a new smartphone on Edge, you can also receive a $100 bill credit within 2-3 billing cycles.

HTC One ME9’s metal frame gets pictured in leaked render

After the One M9, One M9+, and the new J Butterfly, we're soon going to see yet another high-end smartphone from HTC. This has been leaked so far as the One ME9, which despite how odd it sounds might end up being the official moniker for the device.

Today a new purported leaked render claims to show us the One ME9's metal frame in all its glory.

Despite using this casing, the phone's back cover will be made from polycarbonate, so this will not be another metal unibody construction.

In terms of specs, the One ME9 is expected to come with a 5.2-inch QHD touchscreen, 20 MP rear camera, 4 MP UltraPixel selfie snapper or a 13 MP sensor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, and a 2,900 mAh battery.

MediaTek's MT6795 SoC will be doing all the hard work, and it sports a 2.2 GHz octa-core CPU. BoomSound stereo speakers will be in, as well as a fingerprint scanner embedded in the Home button.

The One ME9 will run Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sense 7 on top. It should be offered in "Classic Rose Gold", "Gold Sepia", and "Meteor Gray" when it finally launches in July. Crowdfunding for the American launch of YotaPhone 2 is live

Russian company Yota is preparing for the North American launch of its unique dual-display YotaPhone, now in its second generation. To raise both funds and publicity for the release, the company has just started an Indiegogo campaign.

It's going pretty well too, with 75% percent of the $50,000 target raised within the first hour after the launch. The featured $500 pledge nets you a YotaPhone 2 with a free bumper case and a 3-month BookMate subscription to put that electronic paper display to good use.

There's at least a $100 value in grabbing one of those, as the company cites a retail price of $600 or more upon launch. The backers will receive their units in August though, while the official release is set for June, so it won't work if you're in a hurry.
