The Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, which was released back in September last year, has apparently been discontinued by the company in the US. A quick search for the device on the official Sony Store US site reveals that the device is now listed in the Discontinued Products section.

What's worth noting is that many older models, including the Xperia Z1 Compact, are still available for purchase from the website. So, it isn't exactly clear why the Z3 Compact has been discontinued in the country. However, the handset can still be purchased from third-party retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg.

This comes just days after Sony launched the Xperia Z3+, which is the global version of the already released Japanese Xperia Z4.

Another month has passed, so as usual it's time for us to take a look at the newly updated Android platform distribution numbers and charts.

Around one month ago, Lollipop was trying very hard to reach 10% of all Android installs, and we're happy to report that in the last few weeks it's finally managed that feat.

What's more, Lollipop is now powering 12.4% of devices, if we count both releases called that together. That said, KitKat is still the prevailing version among devices out there, reaching 39.2% of the market this time around. Interestingly, KitKat's share has been dropping steadily for a couple of months or so – perhaps those Lollipop updates are starting to make themselves felt.

The three iterations of Android collectively called Jelly Bean are still (together) in second position, with 37.4% share right now, down from 39.2% a month ago.

Then we have Ice Cream Sandwich with 5.1% (down by 0.2%), Gingerbread with 5.6% (down by 0.1%), and Froyo with 0.3% (which, surprisingly, is flat).

These stats are gathered from Google's new Play Store app, which doesn't work on older versions of Android. And devices that don't have the Play Store installed obviously aren't tracked in this manner.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge to critical acclaim from the media this year, but how does that translate into actual sales? That's the question everyone would like the answer to, but so far the Korean company has been going out of its way to avoid directly answering it.

Hence, some took that to meaning that sales of its latest flagships are worse than anticipated. Mere hours ago we told you about a report from an investment firm that said Samsung's business is "imploding".

Is it that bad, though? Well, Samsung sure would like you to think not. An unnamed executive at the conglomerate spoke to Korean media and revealed that both the S6 and the S6 edge sales are hitting Samsung's internal targets.

Furthermore, this person is convinced that S6 sales will end up being higher than those of the Galaxy S5 from last year. On the record, Samsung declined to comment, but we apparently may get some actual sales figures on June 3 at an investor relations forum.

While we wait, let's take a look at the latest speculation. One analyst claims Samsung has been selling 305,000 S6 devices per day since the two models were launched. This allegedly fares better compared to the previous generations, as the S5 managed only 124,000 sales per day, while the S4 got 241,000.

Thanks to all of this, Samsung could even report a higher operating profit for the second quarter of this year.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which was announced back in September last year and was released the following month, will get the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update by the end of July, according to a Sammobile report.

This will put the handset among a select group of less than 1% of Android devices that boot the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.

Mediatek just unveiled the new member of its midrange chipset lineup. The Helio P10 is set to replace the popular MT6752 SoC, found in the Meizu m1 note, Lenovo A7000 and Sony Xperia C4 among others.

The "P" in the SoC model name stands for "premium performance" whereas the high-end tri-cluster Helio X20 denotes "extreme performance".

The new chipset relies on a 64-bit octa-core processor, comprised of 8 Cortex-A53 cores, four of which are ticking at up to 2GHz, while the other four are clocked lower, though an exact number isn't specified. A dual-core Mali-T860 GPU is in charge of graphics.

Helio P10 brings Cat.6 LTE for theoretical download speeds up to 300Mbps, versus the predecessor's 150Mbps Cat. 4. We already noted the GPU upgrade, but an increase in memory bandwidth is also highlighted, and speculation points to a switch towards a dual-channel memory controller.

Additionally, the chipset integrates high quality audio circuitry which should deliver 110dB signal-to-noise ratio and -95dB of tatal harmonic distortion. Borrowed from the Helio X10 is the support for a single 21MP camera or a 16MP/8MP dual camera setup, coupled with phase detection autofocus. One feature reserved for the "X" series so far is 2160p video recording.

What's more, the Helio P10 should deliver its improved performance without sacrificing battery life, as the modem inside is 20% more efficient than the one in the MT6752. Meanwhile, multimedia tasks will be up 30% less taxing on the battery compared to the previous model.

The chipset will be produced on a 28nm process and should be available for sampling in early Q3 2015, while entering mass-production is scheduled for the end of the year.
