Samsung has become quite predictable with the release schedule for its flagship Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge were released right on que at MWC 2015, which leads us to believe that the Korean giant will be just as diligent with the Note series. Thus, we can expect to see a new Note 5 device this September, most probably at the IFA expo, but the question is still out on an edged variant for the next Note device.

Last year, the Note 4 came out along with a rather unexpected sibling – the Galaxy Note Edge. A lot has already been said about the possibility of a successor, but new rumors now state that such a device is highly unlikely. It is worth noting, however, that this does not disrupt the future of the legendary Note series and the next one should come right on que.

Frankly, when you think about it, everything seems to hint that the Note Edge is a one-off device. It came out at the height of the curved screen hype and was quite successful in showcasing the new technology's capabilities. However, its curve is quite different from the one on the S6 edge and represents a slightly different design approach – employing what is essentially a separate screen on the side. Samsung seems to have gone in another direction since, so, we don't really expect to see anything quite like the Note edge any time soon.

Also, the device itself wasn't really mass-produced or mass-marketed and only released in few select markets. If nothing else, the pure fact that it is named the Galaxy Note Edge, lacking any numbers, breaks it away from the standard Samsung naming convention. However, nothing is confirmed yet and there is always the possibility for a major surprise, which the Korean giant has proven good at. Project Valley and the possibility of a foldable device, instantly spring to mind, but, perhaps, we are getting a little ahead of ourselves.

Even if the Note 5 arrives without any major plot twist, rumors still suggest that it is going to be one amazing device with a 5.89-inch UHD display, an Exynos 7422 chipset, 4100 mAh battery and all the productivity goodies the Note series offers.

The Meizu m2 note, which was announced earlier this month and was spotted listed for pre-order from several online retailers last week, is now available for purchase from a few online retailers.

Pandawill is selling the 16GB White colour variant of the device for $190 and the Grey model for $195, with free worldwide shipping within 2-3 business days. On the other hand, Oppomart is apparently selling both variants for $199.

Meanwhile, the 16GB and 32GB Grey color variants of the handset are on pre-order at Gearbest, available at a pre-sale price of $174 and $372, respectively. The pre-sale ends on July 5, with worldwide shipping likely following – estimated shipping time is within 3-5 business days.

The Meizu MX5 is merely a week away from official launch, which is set for June 30. It's also not exactly the best kept secret, as we've already caught a few glimpses of it in live images. It is no wonder then that sample units have made it to the hands of testers, keen to share.

The latest leaks come from a couple of benchmark listings, one revealing a few key specs, the other providing insight on the performance you could expect from Meizu's newest flagship. The GFXBench entry confirms what previous rumors have settled on in terms of display size, and the MX5 packs a 5.5-inch FullHD unit.

The benchmark reports 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There's a 20.7MP primary camera on the back of the handset, which is capable of 2160p video recording. On top of that the 5MP selfie snapper can also shoot 1080p videos.

It was initially known that the chipset inside the Meizu MX5 would be an MT6793, one we hadn't seen officially announced. However, both of today's benchmark entries report Mediatek's MT6795T SoC, also known as Helio X10, so we'd put our money on that one. It comes with an octa-core Cortex-A53 processor clocked at up to 2.1GHz and a PowerVR G6200 GPU.

It's not just specs we're treated to though, we now have the alleged MX5's Geekbench score. A number around the 5300 mark puts the MX5 in Galaxy S6 territory, and we'd be truly impressed if it checks out when we get to test one ourselves, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Just days after the first-generation Moto X started getting it in select markets, Motorola has announced that it is rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to the the second-generation Moto X as well.

For those who aren't aware, the Android 5.1 update brings better control over notifications, new pull-down menu for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in quick settings, device protection, as well as several stability improvements and bug fixes.

If not already, the over-the-air (OTA) update should be hitting your device soon.

Although not officially, the Sony Xperia C4 – which was announced back in May and went on sale in Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Asia earlier this month – is now available for purchase in the US.

Online retailer Amazon is selling the unlocked, international version of the handset (no US LTE support) for $379. The smartphone is available in black and white colour options.

For those who aren't in the know, the Xperia C4 is being marketed as a "selfie smartphone" – it features a 5 MP wide-angle front-facing camera that comes equipped with a LED flash.

Sony has imported four new smartphone prototypes in India for testing and debugging purposes, according to a listing (see image below) on Indian site Zauba, which tracks the country's import and export.

The handsets that were imported include the Seahawk Rex PQ, Eagle Rex AP, Seahawk Gina AP, and the Eagle Rilads AP. As for the price, each prototype carries a tag of INR 39,239 ($617), suggesting that these are high-end devices.

Given the limited information at hand, it is difficult to speculate about the devices at the moment. Meanwhile, Sony's latest smartphone, the Xperia Z3+, is expected to be unveiled in India this week.

MediaTek's high-end deca-core Helio X20 chipset is set to make a debut in mid-October housed inside the Elephone P9000. The Chinese smartphone is expected to debut on October 20 with $500 price tag.

The MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core chipset carries the model number MT6797. It follows the MediaTek Helio X10 MT6795 model with octa-core processor.

Helio X20 has the industry's first tri-cluster architecture which packs two Cortex-A72 processor cores clocked at 2.5GHz for optimal performance, four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2GHz for striking a balance between performance and power consumption, and another four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.4GHz for power efficiency. The GPU will be Mali-T800.

Elephone P9000 will feature a 5.5" 1080p display, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage with memory card slot, 8MP front camera, 20.7MP rear snapper, and 3100 mAh battery. The device is a dual-SIM handset with a dual-standby mode.

Last week OnePlus officially started its teaser campaign for its next flagship smartphone, which is due to be unveiled soon. Until that happens, though, the Chinese company has promised to reveal things about it bit by bit.

The first such revelation had to do with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset used. And today we find out that the OnePlus 2 will apparently be the first high-end smartphone to use a USB Type-C port.

OnePlus says it wants "to lead the way in power connectivity", hence why it made this choice. You may know USB Type-C as the only port on the new 12" MacBook. It's also been used by Google on this year's Chromebook Pixel, and other computer makers are adopting it too.

Its main claim to fame is the fact that it's reversible, so it doesn't matter which side of the cable is up. That should remove a major pain point from previous USB connectors. USB Type-C is also small enough that it can be used on phones, so we expect it to be featured in many more handsets in the future.
