Catch the Acer press conference live here

Technicallyр IFA 2015 hasn’t exactly started quite yet, but a few eager participants just can’t wait any longer. Acer has set its conference for today at 11:00 AM Berlin local time (GMT + 2). This is now mere minutes away and we are on site, ready to keep you updated on any exciting news.

You can also follow the presentation live right here, thanks to Acer, which was kind enough to stream the whole thing. The stream is not up yet, but we will be sure to update the news once it goes live.

So what can we expect from Acer? Well, the Taiwanese OEM has been extra secretive this year. However, we have heard a few rumors. One talks of a pair of new Liquid devices, the Z630 and Z530. Both have already popped up online with specs and pictures and look to be mid-level android offers. You can check the details in our previous news.

There have also been bolder speculations about Acer’s IFA announcements. The company will allegedly introduce another four smartphones at the venue, all of which running Windows 10. Microsoft’s mobile OS is still some time away from a proper release, so any new development in this respect can definitely stir excitement.

Last, but not least, Acer’s RAPTOR gaming series should see new additions – most probably a laptop and a desktop PC. That is about as much as we currently know, so stick around for the whole scoop later…

Huawei Mate S handled before its official IFA unveiling

We’re at the IFA grounds and waiting for today’s slew of events, but someone got up close and personal with the Huawei Mate S (which flip-flopped between that name and Mate 7S during its numerous leaks).

The Huawei Mate S is a follow-up to the Mate 7 with an all-metal body and a 5.7″ screen snuggled behind 2.5D glass (that is glass with smooth, chamfered and possibly curved sides). The LCD screen will have 1080p resolution and is said to feature Force Touch-like functionality.

Huawei Mate S handled before its official announcement

The fingerprint sensor on the back was the focus of Huawei’s teaser campaign, with the tagline “5 powerful functions will fit in 1 square cm.” What the five functions are is a guessing game for now, but secure locking and mobile payments are practically a given.

Another look at the Mate S

The Mate S will run Android 5.1 Lollipop with EMUI 3.1 on top of a Kirin 935 chipset (same chipset as the Honor 7) with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, plus up to 128GB more from a microSD card. There will be two more card slots – two nanoSIMs – and Cat. 6 LTE connectivity.

Leaked official images of the Huawei Mate S

The rumored camera for is a 13MP shooter on the back and an 8MP one on the front. The battery is expected to be a healthy 4,100mAh unit.

Once again, this is the unofficial info we have beforehand, Huawei’s press conference starts at 13:00 GMT. We’ll post a link to the livestream so you can watch the Huawei Mate S announcement too.

Google will soon stop considering sites with full-page app install ads as mobile friendly

Clicking through a search result and being greeted by an app install ad covering the whole web page can surely be frustrating. Looks like Google has taken note of this, and is taking steps to ensure that web-masters adopt user-friendly ways to promote apps.

“Starting today, we’ll be updating the Mobile-Friendly Test to indicate that sites should avoid showing app install interstitials that hide a significant amount of content on the transition from the search result page,” the search giant said in a blog post.

The Mountain View, California-based company also said that starting November 1, mobile web pages that greet users arriving from its search result page with an app install ad that hides a significant amount of content won’t be considered mobile-friendly, which effectively means that those pages will be demoted.

However, Google also made it clear that the change does not affect other types of…
