Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime gets Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

The first Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime smartphone to get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware was the Verizon’s SM-G830P model. Today, the regular American flavor – the SM-G830W is also getting the update.

The Canadian users are the first to get the new firmware. It is available both OTA and via Kies and weights about 590MB. In case you are impatient for the update – you can download it by hitting the source link below and install it via Odin.

While the G530W and G530P have been granted access to the latest available Android OS, the G530F and the rare G530BP (TV) models are still waiting for the regular 5.0 Lollipop updates. Unfortunately we don’t know any further details on their updates…

The Huawei Watch is getting ready for a launch in the US and Europe

Back in March, Huawei unveiled its take on the new wearable device trend and it showed a lot of potential. That might actually be an understatement, as the Huawei Watch is a truly gorgeous device that has managed to masterfully blend traditional watch design with modern technology. The smartwatch not only looks visually stunning, but also surpasses most other Android Wear devices on the market, clearly outdoing competitors like LG and Samsung.

The Huawei Watch definitely captivated fans at MWC 2015, but since then the premium watch has persistently managed to elude markets, release dates and end users almost entirely. Now, after the long tease, the Huawei Watch is finally coming. Starting today, you can pre-order a unit in the US at Amazon, the Google Store, BestBuy and GetHuawei.com with shipping scheduled for September 17. Canada should get it by the end of the month.

Europe is also included in the road map and the watch will be available in Germany, France, Spain and Italy later this month. The UK, Japan and UAE will follow shortly with even more markets planned down the road. So, we are definitely looking at a global roll out.

Designed first and foremost as a watch, the Huawei Watch is unlike any smartwatch available today,

This is how Zhiqiang Xu, President of Huawei Device USA describes the Huawei Watch and it is definitely not far-fetched. The device is truly premium with a cold-forged 316L stainless steel body construction and a two-layer sapphire glass option for extra protection. As for the styling, the Huawei Watch truly looks and feels like a proper luxury watch. It also comes with quite a lot of customization options, all of which elegant and refined.

Initially, six models will be available to cater to a broad audience of buyers. But style does come at a price, as the Huawei ranges from $394 all the way to $799 – a pretty penny for a smartwatch, yet not that outlandish for a high-end watch and still a lot less than an Apple Watch Edition. In Europe these translate to a pricing ranging between €399 to €699, respectively.

But the Huawei Watch is more than just a looker. It’s got the best round watch display on the market, you will be hard pressed to find anything better than the 1.4 inch AMOLED display of the Huawei Watch. It has a resolution of 400×400 pixels and 286 ppi.

The unit runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC and boots the latest version of Android Wear (1.3). Google’s OS will utilize the watch’s gyroscope, accelerometer, PPG heart rate sensor and barometer. It even has Wi-Fi and can work untethered if need be.

The 300 mAh battery can easily get you through a day and a half, perhaps even two and fast charging is quite efficient achieving 80% battery charge in just 45 minutes and 30 more to a full charge. Last, but definitely not least, it recently became clear that Android Wear is no longer confined only to Android devices. iOS users can also consider the Huawei Watch, giving the Apple Watch a run for its…

Asus ZenWatch 2: waterproof and affordable

The original ZenWatch combined looks and affordability and its successor is no different. The Asus ZenWatch 2 comes in two different sizes (in silver, gunmetal and rose gold) and a choice of 18 different straps. The most luxurious strap is genuine leather studded with Swarovski crystals, other options include metal, leather and rubber.

You can also get up to 50 different watch faces and design your own with the Asus FaceDesigner phone app. The customization levels nod at the Apple Watch without saying its name.

The ZenWatch 2 comes in 49mm and 45mm sizes (1.63″ and 1.45″ respectively). Both use AMOLED screens behind curved Gorilla Glass 3. Both are IP67-rated – dust tight and waterproof up to 1m for half an hour.

The ZenWatch Message feature allows watch-to-watch communication – very short messages or just emojis you can send to other ZenWatch 2 users.

Smart Assistant enhances Android Wear’s already excellent notification features by showing additional important information from the phone (especially Zen apps). The Business Helper is aimed at office dwellers, it makes it easy to check agendas and manage email.

The watch also has a pedometer and activity tracker, though no heart rate monitor. It does promise solid battery life though, up to two days. It’s charged with a magnetic cable that will feed 50% of charge into the battery in a bit over half an hour.

The Asus ZenWatch 2 prices start at €150 for the larger model. Surprisingly the smaller one is pricier at €170. Since the last Wear update the watch can work with iPhones as well as…

The Acer Predator 6 and Predator 8 are new beastly devices aimed at gamers

Acer’s presentation at IFA 2015 was truly action-packed with a sea of device announcements. We already told you about the six new Android phones and the other two, powered by Windows 10, but that was just the tip of the iceberg. The Taiwanese tech giant is now putting a lot of emphasis on its new gaming device lineup. Dubbed “Predator”, it is only a few months old and yet already has some impressive devices to offer.

On stage at Berlin, the Predator lineup was expanded with a powerful laptops, desktop PCs and gaming monitors, but Acer is branching out even further to mobile gamers with a tablet – the Predator 8 and a gamer smartphone – the Predator 6. Both are flashy devices, which in typical gaming fashion are adorned with an aggressive body with straight lines.

The Predator 6 phone has both the looks and specs to impress and blow away any Android game out of the ball park. It is equipped with a large 6-inch display and some whopping 4GB or RAM. It also runs on a beastly deca-core MediaTek processor (yes that is “deca” as in ten, most probably the Helio X20). Not much else is known about the unit’s specs sheet, except that its camera sensor will offer an impressive resolution of 21MP.

Also, we expect that just like the Predator 8 tablet, which was also announced during the presentation, the predator phone will have special control and feedback features, specifically designed to improve gaming. As for the tablet, it has an 8.0-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, 2GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of onboard storage. Powering it is an Intel Atom X7-Z8700 processor, which is incredibly powerful for a tablet and is bundled with capable Gen. 8-LP Intel HD Graphics, that will surely give the NVidia Shield a run for its money.

Pricing and availability are still unclear, but there was mention of a September release for the tablet, so perhaps the Predator 6 will come shortly…

Watch Huawei’s IFA press conference live here

Today Huawei will be announcing new devices at a special press conference in Berlin at 2:30PM local time. We expect at least two new devices to go official during the event.

The Huawei Mate S, or Mate 7S, has been in the rumorland for quite some time and we are pretty sure it will be detailed today. The new Mate S should introduce Force Touch display, new Kirin 935 chip and latest Android OS.

Huawei Mate S handled before its official announcement

Huawei’s Watch premiered back at the MWC expo in February, but it is still yet to be released. There is a good chance that Huawei will re-introduce it at IFA with more details and finally – a release date and pricing.

The rumors about a Huawei Nexus 6 smartphone has been continuously growing the last few days, most powered by some pretty mockups. We believe the chance of seeing a Huawei Nexus is tiny, but who knows.

You can watch the event live over Huawei’s FashionTouchesTechnology…

Acer just added three new Android phones and a Windows 10 one to its portfolio

Acer is expanding its Android lineup with three new devices. Well, actually, it is a total of six, as each of the models has a slightly altered derivative tagging along. All of them are low to mid-range offers, two of which were already spotted in a previous rumor. As part of the same Z family they do share a lot of design traits, but each has a little spin of its own.

First up is the Liquid Z630 and Z630S. It’s an Android Lollipop-powered handset with big 5.5″ 720p IPS display and MediaTek MT6735 chipset. The SoC offers a quad-core 1.3GHz Cortex-A53 processor, a Mali-T720 GPU and 1GB or 2GB of RAM. It is a fairly powerful device that also comes with LTE connectivity. The rest of its specs sheet includes 8MB or 16GB of onboard storage, two 8MP cameras and a large 4,000 mAh battery. The S variation simply ups the RAM to 3GB ant the storage to 32GB.

Next up is the Liquid Z530. It is slightly smaller with a 5.0-inch 720p IPS screen, but otherwise has the same MediaTek MT6735 chip with 1GB or 2GB of RAM. This means it has LTE connectivity as well. The situation is absolutely identical with the S modification and the Z530S simple has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

Unlike the Z630, which has a more typical layout on the back with a camera near the top and a small speaker grill, the Z530 is experimenting with a bold new look. From a distance it almost seems like Acer has included a second camera sensor. That, however is a back-facing round dts speaker. We are excited to see whether it is more than a design choice and actually delivers better sound quality.

Last from the Android bunch is the Liquid Z330. Just like its sibling it boots Android 5.1 Lollipop and is a budget-friendly offer. It shares most of its design with the Z530 and also has a round speaker on the back. As for specs, it is equipped with a 4.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of just 854 x 480 pixels and 1GB of RAM. It also has a variant of sorts, dubbed the Z320. It is the exact same device, except that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 MSM8909 SoC has been swapped for a MSM8209. There is also a small difference in the camera setup – the Z330 has two 5MP shooters, while the Z320 has only 2MP on the front.

Then there are the M330 and M320. They are identical to their Z counterparts both in terms of specs and appearance, but have one major distinctive feature – they boot Microsoft’s Windows 10. We are definitely excited to see how the modest hardware will handle the new mobile OS, but logic dictates that availability for the M devices will be postponed at least until Windows 10 becomes officially available for mobile later this…
