Intel’s ‘PC does what?’ campaign goes live

Who’d have thought you’d see some of the top PC OEMs come together and promote the PC as a brand. But then, with falling sales and interest in the once popular personal computer space, companies are now tripping over each other to try and revive the segment again.

The result is this, Intel’s ‘PC does what?’ campaign, made in collaboration with Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The campaign focuses on showing you all the different things your PC can do, and they already have a bunch of videos for that. Most of these are somewhat cringe-inducing and clearly Intel is no Apple when it comes to showing features in a meaningful, relatable way and instead chose an over the top exaggerated ad campaign that people are less likely to respond to. But if you look past the absurdity, you might just see some actual, clever features.

The company also has a website with a single page, and wants you to come back on October 19. Maybe we will see more then.

You can see all the five videos in the playlist…

Voice recognition capabilities now available for third-party Pebble Time apps

Pebble is integrating a voice-related Dictation API into the Pebble SDK for iOS and Android, allowing developers to create voice-enabled applications for the Pebble Time smartwatches.

The underlying technology behind the new API is provided by Nuance, a company known for its voice recognition tech. “Making voice capabilities accessible to developers will help grow the Pebble app ecosystem exponentially, providing Pebble users access to more apps that are fun, intuitive, and easy to use,” said Kean Wong, Vice President of Software Engineering at Pebble.

It’s worth mentioning that users of the Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel smartwatches with Android phones can already reply to email and text messages using their voice. It has now been revealed that the Pebble Time Round will get the feature on November 8 in the US.

Google Play Store to get a major redesign

A major redesign is coming to the Google Play Store, a sneak peak of which was offered by the company’s UI engineer Kirill Grouchnikov. The refresh will see the main Play Store page containing only two tabs: Apps & Games and Entertainment. This compares to the six separate sections – Games, Movies & TV, Music, Books, and Newsstand – that are there currently.

As you can see in the image above, both the main tabs will contain subcategories. For example, the Apps & Games tab will further have sections like Top Charts, Games, Categories, and Family. Similarly, once inside the Entertainment tab, you’ll see shortcuts for Movies & TV, Music, Books, and Newsstand.

Notably, the new header space at the top of the page will be used to focus on a particular app, game, movie, or other related stuff. Although Grouchnikov did mention that the changes are coming “#soon,” he didn’t specify exactly…

Droid Maxx 2 now accidentally confirmed by Motorola

Just a day after Motorola and Verizon sent out press invites for a joint event centred around “the newest Droids,” the former has accidentally confirmed the existence of the Droid Maxx 2 smartphone. It’s worth mentioning that Google had recently confirmed that the device will be Verizon’s Moto X Play.

Motorola yesterday launched a stock email client, dubbed Moto Email, on Google Play. Among the screenshots accompanying the app’s Play Store listing was an image (shown above) where-in the sender’s signature read, “Sent from my DROID MAXX 2.” A quick look at the listing now reveals that the image in question has been removed.

As multiple Droid-branded phones are to be announced at the October 27 event, we are also expecting the companies to unveil the Droid Turbo 2 (which also has an international variant dubbed the Moto X Force).

Skype now lets non-users participate in conversations after clicking a unique link

Starting today, you can use Skype even if you don’t have an account. The Microsoft-owned service announced a new feature that makes this possible. People who do have a Skype account can now start a conversation and then share a unique link to it. Each conversation gets its own link, and the people who are sent such a link (and click on it) can join it and chat even if they’re not Skype users. This currently works for guests through Skype for Web on computers.

The people inviting others to conversations through these links can do so from Skype for Windows, Skype for Mac, and Skype for Web. The functionality is currently limited to the US and UK. Guests can also join conversations from Skype for iPhone, iPad, and Android, but only if they already have an account.

Skype says it’s working hard to roll out this feature to the rest of the world too, and this should happen over the next two weeks. The ability to start a conversation and share a link to it from mobile devices is coming…

YouTube Gaming update lets you broadcast your mobile gameplay from Android

YouTube Gaming was announced as Google’s answer to Twitch back in June, and it finally launched this August letting you live stream your gaming sessions to eager viewers everywhere. One thing you couldn’t broadcast, however, were mobile games. Until now, that is.

A new update for YouTube Gaming now allows for streaming of mobile gameplay, if you’re on Android that is. You just use Mobile Capture on YouTube Gaming, and that’s it – you don’t need any additional hardware or software. After you tap on Go Live in the YouTube Gaming app, you can turn on your front-facing camera to record your commentary using your phone’s microphone.

This isn’t the only new thing launching for YouTube Gaming, though. Sponsorships now let you support the people creating the live streams you love. This is in beta for “a small group of creators”, who can receive monthly payments from fans in exchange for extra perks (such as a live chat badge chosen by the creator and access to exclusive chat sessions). The list of beta channels with this feature enabled will reportedly be expanded continuously.

More improvements are in too. It’s now easier to see when there are live streams for games in your collection, video bookmarking with Watch Later is simplified, performance has been improved, the YouTube Gaming homepage has been redesigned, and you can import existing YouTube subscriptions at any time through Settings. Finally, previous searches are remembered in the iOS app.

The new YouTube Gaming app, featuring all of these enhancements, is available today in the Google Play Store for Android and the iTunes App Store for…

Vodafone UK offers a free tablet for every Nexus 6P pre-order

If you’re in the UK and crave the recently announced Huawei Nexus 6P, starting today you have a new option for pre-ordering it. Vodafone will readily take your cash if you don’t mind having it as your operator of choice.

This comes with a 7-inch 1,024×600 touchscreen, a pair of 2 MP cameras (one on the front, one on the back), the Spreadtrum SC7731G SoC with a 1.2 GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of expandable storage, and a 4,100 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Emotion UI 3.0 on top.

Of course it’s not a high-end offering then, but it is free after all. The Nexus 6P can be had for £9 upfront, with Vodafone contracts starting at £35 per month. This cheapest option has 1,000 minutes, unlimited texts, and 1GB of data. At the other end of the spectrum, for a whopping £61 per month you receive unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, and 25GB of data. Obviously there are many more choices to pick from. Deliveries are expected to start on October 29.

Samsung has partnered with Montblanc and Swarovski to bring you some exquisite accessories for the Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+.

Last year, Montblanc made two special pens for the Galaxy Note 4, and now it’s introduced a third model, made for the Note5. It’s called Starwalker Urban Speed Screenwriter. It has all the functionality of Samsung’s own S Pen, but in Montblanc’s unique style.

Montblanc is also behind the line of premium cases you can see pictured above. The collection includes two leather covers for the S6 edge+, two for the Note5, two flip wallets with a pocket for the S6 edge+, and two flip covers without a pocket for the Note5.

Samsung and Montblanc have even made a limited edition run of hard-shell covers with handmade tattoos on them. These are made to fit the Note5 and S6 edge+, and they were designed by tattoo artist Mo Coppoletta. They will be out at the end of the month.

Swarovski for Samsung is a lineup of new covers for the Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ made by the famous glass and crystals producer. The covers feature more than 1,300 crystals. This will use fine crystals on a transparent case, and will be available online in select countries only.

As a final note, don’t expect any of these products to be even remotely…
