Six Sony devices will jump straight to Android 6.0 from Android 5.0

Sony has updated its support pages to indicate the fact that at least six of its devices will not be receiving updates to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Instead, these will jump from 5.0 straight to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The devices in question are the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, and Xperia M5. The support pages for all of these now list Android 6.0 Marshmallow as the next version of the OS that they’ll get, even though they’re all still running 5.0.

Given the fact that Marshmallow is already launched, this makes sense. If Sony were to work on the Android 5.1.1 update for these devices first, and only then start developing Marshmallow, you can imagine how late that would come out. Even so, you probably shouldn’t expect any of them to taste Marshmallow this year.

It’s unclear why Sony hasn’t already released updates to Android 5.1.1 for these smartphones and the Z4 Tablet, but now it’s certain that it won’t go this route at…

Huawei publishes list of devices getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow

If you own a Huawei device and are anxious to find out whether it will ever be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, here’s the official list straight from the Chinese company itself.

One word of caution, however: this list is apparently valid for the devices released in China. So certain international versions of the products in it may not see the latest version of the OS. We sure hope that’s not going to be the case, but you do need to keep this in mind.

OK, without further ado, here are all the Huawei devices confirmed to taste Marshmallow: P8, Mate S, Ascend Mate7, P8max, Ascend G7, G7 Plus, G8, Honor 7, Honor 7i, Honor 6 Plus, Honor 6, MediaPad X2, Honor 4X, and Honor 4C.

Of course, the list could conceivably grow in the future, as Huawei hasn’t said these are the only devices to get Android 6.0. Huawei is currently working on the updates and the first ones may be out in November – then again these things are often delayed, so you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up.

Mozo genuine leather back covers for Lumia 950 and 950 XL are up for pre-order

Remember those genuine leather back covers for the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL that Microsoft recently unveiled? They’re made by Finnish company Mozo, and were officially presented not long after Microsoft’s big event at the beginning of the month.

If you’re interested in purchasing one of them for your next Lumia, then know that they are now all up for pre-order. All of the covers are made from genuine leather, they support wireless charging and NFC, and have a premium finish.

Four colors are currently available for both the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL: white, black, brown, and red. All models are priced at €48.50, which right now means approximately $55.20. Mozo ships worldwide, and deliveries are set to start on November 16. That’s not soon, but it’s probably not a huge issue since the phones they’re meant for aren’t out yet either.

BlackBerry Priv specs fully revealed by retailer, handled prior release

BlackBerry Priv is the highly anticipated Android smartphone, which is yet another attempt of BlackBerry to get back on the horse. And we said this before, we know, but things look really promising this time.

BlackBerry has already started taking pre-registrations but today Carphone Warehouse started taking actual pre-orders. The Priv will be launching in the UK on November 6, but you can book your unit right now.

What’s more important is that Carphone Warehouse revealed the complete specs of the Priv. The Priv features a 5.4″ Quad HD display with curved glass and runs on the Snapdragon 808 chip with dual-core 1.8GHz Cortex-A57 and quad-core 1.44GHz Cortex-A53 CPU plus Adreno 418 GPU.

The main camera of the BlackBerry Priv is an 18MP Sony MX230-S with 4K video recording and a dual-LED flash. A similar sensor has been used on the new Moto X lineup, Sony Xperia M5 and Huawei Honor 7. The BlackBerry’s setup also features Schneider-Kreuznach optics though.

The Priv runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with some BlackBerry exclusive apps and services. There will be an app to help you transfer content from various devices, including old BlackBerries.

Carphone Warehouse wants nothing for the BlackBerry Priv if you sign a 2-year contract on £49/month tariff or higher. There is no info on the off-contract price yet.

And while we are waiting for even more official details on the Android-powered and QWERTY-enabled BlackBerry Priv, you may want to check out the live pictures below. The phones was handled by derstandard.de and they have already shared some positive first impressions.

There are even camera samples from the Priv’s camera.

Samsung Galaxy S7 tipped to come with a USB Type-C port

We’re not expecting the Samsung Galaxy S7 until early next year, but rumors are already piling up. It’s the chipset inside that entertains the most and whether it will be the Snapdragon 820, or a brand new Exynos, or a total of three options, remains to be seen.

Taking a break from that topic, it has now been hinted that Samsung’s 2016 flagship will come with a USB Type-C port. “Confirmed” is actually the wording used by the folks at SamMobile, citing “sources”.

It would be a logical turn of events as it’s the way the industry is inevitably headed. Convenience of the reversible design aside, the Type-C standard (if accompanied by actual USB 3.1 support, unlike the OnePlus 2), promises even faster connection speeds and high-wattage power delivery, two-way too. After all, no fast wireless tech can beat a proper fast wired charger.

In case you have been following, the successor to the Samsung Galaxy S6 has also been tipped to feature a Synaptics made ClearForce tech to rival Apple’s 3D Touch. We’re also expecting a new magnesium alloy for the body of next year’s Korean model for improved strength/weight ratio. Competition is a good thing, we…
