Xiaomi announces 60-inch 4K Mi TV 3

Xiaomi has announced the new 60-inch 4K Mi TV 3 smart TV in China. The TV comes in two parts, the display itself and the speaker box, which does all the work.

In most televisions, the logic board is situated inside the television body itself. In the Mi TV 3, Xiaomi has shifted all the important bits inside the speaker box, turning the TV itself into just a monitor. The TV connects to the speaker box via a single cable, and all your other sources connect to the speaker box instead of the TV. This results in the TV being much thinner (11.6mm at thinnest point and 36.7mm at thickest point) and also looks neater with fewer cables coming out of the TV. It’s also cheaper to repair as you just have to replace the speaker unit instead of the entire TV.

The speaker box houses all the ports above. The main logic board is inside the speaker box as well, along with two 2.5-inch woofers and single dome tweeter on either side for each channel. The box also has three HDMI inputs (no confirmation if they’re 1.4 or 2.0), USB 3.0 + USB 2.0 ports, VGA input, Ethernet, AV in, RF in, and subwoofer out. The system runs on Android 5.1 but uses Xiaomi’s custom UI instead of Android TV.

As for the display, it has a 4K LG panel with color gamut of NTSC 85% and MEMC motion compression. The panel has an aluminum frame with diamond pattern and double color anodization and a metal backplate.

The Mi TV 3 is priced at RMB 4999. Interestingly, Xiaomi also sells the speaker box separately, which can turn any TV or monitor into a smart TV with sound.

You can purchase the speaker unit for RMB 999. You can also get an additional subwoofer for RMB 599 to improve the low-end audio.

Lastly, you can also get a wireless Bluetooth remote with voice search and 6-axis motion sensor for RMB…

Indian iPhone 6s shipping with 10W chargers instead of 5W

Apple started selling the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in India last week. Some people have noticed, however, that the Indian model comes with a different charger than the ones that come with the US models.

For a while, Apple has been selling iPhones with a smaller 5W charger, whereas the iPads have always been shipping with the larger 12W charger. The iPhone 6s models in India, however, are shipping with a new 10W charger, that look like the ones that ship with iPads but slightly smaller.

Apple is including a 10w power adapter with the iPhone 6s Plus. http://pic.twitter.com/efcNbtH64N— Rakesh (@rakeshkhabiya) October 18, 2015

This is good news for those in India, as the bigger iPad chargers always charged the iPhones significantly faster than the 5W chargers that come with the phones themselves and although the new iPhone chargers don’t quite have the same 12W rating as the iPad chargers, they will still charge the phones way quicker than the 5W chargers shipping in the US.

We wonder why Apple isn’t providing these chargers in other regions, though.

Apple’s newest iPhones get tepid opening-weekend response in India

While Apple managed to set a new opening-weekend record with the first wave launch of its iPhone 6s and 6s Plus smartphones, looks like it’s a completely different story in India – the world’s third largest smartphone market – where the opening-weekend response has reportedly been largely lukewarm.

The devices were launched in the country on October 16. Reports say that the Cupertino-based company managed to sell only 50,000 units of the new iPhones over the weekend.

That’s disappointing given that a total of 165,000 units were available for purchase this time, which is nearly three times of what was available last year, when the initial stock was sold out in the first 72 hours after the launch.

Retailers are expecting that sales will pick up following a price slash, something they say most customers are patiently waiting for – if you aren’t already aware, India is currently the most expensive place to purchase the new…

Lumia 950 and 950 XL dummy units imported to India; release imminent?

A total of 1,000 dummy units of the Microsoft Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones – which were announced by the Redmond, Washington-based company earlier this month – have been imported to India. The information came courtesy of a local website Zauba, which tracks the country’s import and export.

For those who aren’t in the know, dummy units are usually used for display purposes at retail outlets, giving potential customers an opportunity to physically handle the device (check out its size and all).

Given that Diwali, one of India’s biggest festival, is just a few weeks away, the development strongly suggests that the devices could be released in the country in the near future – both are currently listed as ‘coming soon’ on Microsoft’s Indian…

Facebook’s Israeli office vandalized to protest offensive content

Facebook’s headquarters in Israel – located in the country’s capital of Tel Aviv – has been vandalized to protest pages containing violence inciting, anti-Israel and anti-Jewish content.

A Tel Aviv man by the name of Rotem Gez spray-painted graffiti (shown in the image above) of bloody hand-prints on the company’s building, along with the text “blood on your hands.”

Claiming the responsibility of the work, Gez said in a television interview that the social networking company doesn’t take down the pages in question as they bring in good amount of traffic to the site.

“I decided to go out and campaign against them to make it clear our blood is on their hands,” he said. “We decided to do this because you can’t write anything on Facebook’s Wall (on the site), so we transferred the protest to the company’s physical wall, outside the network.”

It’s worth mentioning that this is not the first run-in Gez has had with Facebook; back in 2011, he legally changed his to name to Mark Zuckerberg after Facebook sent him a couple of cease-and-desist letters for violating the company’s terms of service – he was caught selling ‘likes’ to advertisers.
