Las ventajas de contar con una madera ‘invisible’ para la arquitectura

La madera ha sido el material insigne de algunos de los diseños arquitectónicos más extraordinarios desde hace miles de años.
Mientras que los arquitectos e ingenieros buscan maneras y materiales más sustentables para construir, una nueva investigación lleva de nuevo a un material al centro de atención de una manera totalmente inesperada.

Desde el año pasado, investigadores de la Universidad de Maryland, College Park, trabajan en desarrollar una versión superior y transparente de la madera.

Being ‘Good Neighbors’ And Staying Out Of Print Motivates Companies To Be Environmental Stewards

Next time you pull through your local Taco Bell, stop and ask the management there what it is doing to mitigate both its waste and its carbon emissions. As it turns out, it is doing a lot, beginning with building modern restaurants while measuring its emissions.
And it’s not just the smaller retailers that want to be custodians of the environment. It’s also the multinationals, which are out front and which have said that such attention builds trust with their customers and the communities where they operate — initiatives that will continue no matter the outcomes of the U.S. elections. The steps they are taking?
While the initial moves may have been prompted by regulations or consumer demands, many companies now want to ensure that everyone up-and-down the corporate chain of command is committed to the cause — from the chief executives to the folks on the shop floor. They have determined that they are not just getting environmental benefits but also financial returns, while creating goals for which team members can strive and attain. The cost of complacency can be quite high.   
“More and more investors are starting to ask questions about non-financial issues,” says David Harpring, director of global sustainability and engineering for Yum Brands in Louisville, KY, who spoke at Environmental Leader’s conference in Denver last week. Yum owns about 43,000 Taco Bells, Kentucky Fried Chickens and Pizza Huts based in 140 countries, although many are franchised.

Goetia nuevo juego de aventuras para GNU/Linux y Steam Machine

Desde la tienda de Steam de Valve ya tienes disponible un nuevo y misterioso título, Goetia. Por supuesto, como indica el título, está disponible para plataformas Linux. Si te decides a comprarlo ahora, dispone de un descuento de esos a los que nos tiene acostumbrado la tienda Steam, ahorrándote un buen dienero y adquiriéndolo por algo más de 10€, concretamente 4 céntimos más…

Se tarta del primer título creado por Square Enix Collective, pero que se ve bastante bien para el género de este título. Nació, como muchos otros títulos, del crowdfunding, bajo la plataforma Kickstarter. Ha conseguido recaudar 30.000€ 70 horas antes de su deadline. Así el estudio francés tendrá dinero para su desarrollo. Esta plataforma la conocerás por promover otros de los proyectos indie más codiciados del sector de los videojuegos, y ahora impulsan Goetia para convertirse, no en uno más, sino en uno de los mejores.

Es una aventura point and click, ambientada en una mansión inglesa durante los años 40, en plena Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tu labor como jugador será acompañar al protagonista, la joven Abigail Blackwood, que murió hace 50 años y ahora vaga como un espectro que trata de averiguar lo sucedido. Gran título si te gusta los misterios y la investigación. Un enrevesado juego de puzzles en el que deberás investigar y pensar durante horas para poder hayar la solución que se busca.

Sinceramente he probado varios juegos de este tipo y la verdad es que son bastante entretenidos y me han gustado mucho. A priori no les veía fundamento y creía que serían aburridos, pero me llevé una grata sorpresa al probarlos. Quizás acostumbrado a los juegos en tercera persona de acción, este tipo de títulos pueda parecer algo soso, pero nada más lejos de la realidad, te engancharás y te sumergirás en la gran historia que los desarrolladores han escrito para ti.
