Como todos sabéis, Android es un sistema operativo para dispositivos móviles (aunque también puede ser instalado en PCs) que ha creado Google con kernel Linux. Por otro lado está el gran rival de Android, iOS y que es el equivalente de Apple, aunque en vez de ser abierto es propietario y se basa en el núcleo XNU (BSD) al igual que su hermano mayor Mac OS X. Pues bien, en este artículo trataremos de dar las ventajas e inconvenientes de cada sistema.
Analizando las características de cada uno, ya encontramos algunas grandes diferencias sin adentrarnos demasiado en materia, además de basarse en kernels diferentes y de la licencia, iOS dispone de una interfaz gráfica llamada Cocoa Touch con algunas diferencias con respecto a Android, que en sus últimas versiones basa su interfaz en Material Design, el lenguaje creado por Google para implementar interfaces livianas.
Por otro lado están los lenguajes de programación usados para el desarrollo de cada uno. Android usa C y C++ (antes también Java para su GUI), mientras iOS emplea C, C++, Objective-C y el nuevo Swift de Apple. Por tanto iOS es más heterogéneo en este sentido. Además, el sistema de Apple solo está disponible para arquitecturas ARM, mientras que el de Google también soporta x86, MIPS, y POWER, pudiendo ser instalado en más dispositivos…
Hasta aquí solo son algunas diferencias algo más mundanas y que no afectan tan directamente al usuario final. Pero ahora veremos algunos pros y contras desde el punto de vista del usuario:
En la actualidad ambos son los que dominan el mercado, Tizen parece no despegar o hacerlo de forma muy sutil y para ciertos dispositivos concretos y ya sabemos cual ha sido la suerte de Firefox OS de Mozilla… No obstante, Ubuntu puede ser una buena alternativa a ambos sistemas en el futuro, pero por el momento nos tenemos que contentar con lo que hay.
