Netflix lanza aplicación para usar menos datos de smartphones

Netflix lanzó este jueves una nueva aplicación para que sus usuarios consuman menos datos de los teléfonos inteligentes al momento de ver sus series, en un intento por fomentar el uso de dispositivos móviles sin que implique un gasto excesivo para sus clientes, dijo la plataforma de streaming este jueves.

"El ajuste predeterminado permite transmitir cerca de tres horas de series y películas por gigabyte de datos", el equivalente a 600 kilobits por segundo. Sin embargo, en caso de que se cuente con un plan de internet con mayor disposición de datos, se puede modificar para que transmita video a mayor velocidad, señaló la compañía.

"Esperamos que esta herramienta sirva para mejorar la experiencia móvil con Netflix", dijo la empresa.

Para activar esta función, es necesario tener la aplicación de Netflix más actual para dispositivos móviles e ir a la configuración. Ahí aparecerá la opción Uso de datos celulares, donde se puede adaptar la función para transmitir videos con mayor o menor velocidad, dependiendo del plan de internet contratado.

The company currently offers two separate products for control plane and data plane applications. For the data plane, Cavium offers the Octeon product family with up to 96 cores using the MIPS-instruction set (from Imagination Technologies Group Plc). And for the control plane, Cavium offers the ThunderX, with up to 48 cores using the 64-bit ARMv8 instruction set (from ARM Holdings). However, as network architectures are changing around virtualization (SDN & NFV) and data analytics are being considered at every point in the network, the demands of network processors are changing.
