Moto X 2013 expected to start getting Lollipop next week

The first-generation Moto X, which was released back in 2013, is expected to begin receiving the Android Lollipop update next week, according to David Schuster, Senior Director of Software Product Management at Motorola.

He shared that the company has already started full soak testing in France and Germany retail, and is expected to begin it in the US and Brazil later this week. "If all goes well, full deployment can happen the following week," he said in a Google+ post.

For those who aren't already aware, the Lenovo-owned company has already announced that the device will be updated directly from KitKat to Android 5.1.

Moto X (2014) Pure Edition Android 5.1 rollout halted

Just a couple of weeks after it started rolling out, the Android 5.1 update for the second-generation Moto X Pure Edition has been halted due to a bug. The information was revealed by David Schuster, Senior Director of Software Product Management at Motorola.

"We ended up detecting an issue that we want to correct prior to moving to full deployment," he said in a Google+ post. "We already have identified the fix and are in the process of testing internally this coming week and expect to submit to carrier labs for a quick approval the following week."

There was, however, no word on when the company will resume the roll out.

Clonezilla también se pasa a systemd

Clonezilla es una distribución de GNU/Linux destinada a la clonación y copias de seguridad de disco, muy popular debido a su excelente funcionamiento y al hecho de poder disponer de ella en la forma de un Live CD. Se basa en algunas herramientas como DRBL, Partclone y upcast entre otras, pero en general suele ser bastante conservadora en cuanto a los cambios que llegan en cada nueva versión, algo que en esta ocasión han dejado por completo de lado.

Decimos esto porque Clonezilla Live 2.3.1-15 ha dado el salto hacia systemd y abandonado a sysvinit, el sistema de inicio que utilizaban hasta ahora. Así, se suman a una extensa lista de distribuciones que se han decidido por la creación de Red Hat, que ha tomado por asalto el mundo de GNU/Linux para disgusto de los más puristas, que ven en el enfoque más cerrado y monolítico de systemd un peligro a futuro.

Más allá de este cambio significativo, esta nueva versión de Clonezilla llega también con el kernel 4.0.2-1 (que mejora el rendimiento en forma significativa respecto a las ramas previas) y con el sistema de archivos como ‘overlay’ por defecto, de modo que si queremos editar parámetros en la línea de comandos de boot debemos utilizar la opción ‘union=overlay’ (en lugar de union=aufs como era el caso hasta ahora). Otra novedad que llega es la de Partclone en versión 0.2.78.drbl1 (y se han corregido fallos que ocurrían al crear particiones mayores a 16 GB), Syslinux 6.03+dfsg-7 y se ha mejorado la traducción a varios idiomas (español entre ellos) y el soporte para UEFI.
