My chicken problem via /r/Minecraft

My chicken problem

So i started up a new world spawned next to a village.. stole the villagers home… realised i had an egg.. decided id throw it see what happened.. then BOOM 4 chickens.. in my stolen home..

Im afraid they will run out the door when the villagers decide to open the door at night time… so i build them a pen in my stolen home..

They each produce a lot of eggs so im like okay ill throw these around too.. same thing happens with one of the eggs… and long story short im living in my stolen home with a chicken army..

But the house is tiny and i feel like they arent free ranged and i feel bad.. so i build a massive home with an outdoor pen.. lead the chickens there with seeds like the fricken pied piper… they fly (kinda) away and start swarming the village… so i give up take the only 2 chickens willing to follow me and start a new chicken farm and let the others be truely free ranged…

any of you have problem with buried lighting? via /r/Minecraft

any of you have problem with buried lighting?

so when i start lighting my world, i start using jack'o lantern's to light the area surrounding my house. but i don't like things obstructing my way (like a light post or something) to the areas, so i start burying every jack'o lantern i have. It was good to me til' night comes out, so… the problem was the pumkin does not light the area visually, but if you check the f3 info it does. I change the lanterns with glowstone just in case but pre problem persist. Its weird because if you break the light block and put it again the area lights up, until you leave the area, then they shutdown again. its visually weird watching glowstone turned off, so if anyone have a way to fix it ill thank her a lot.

thanks for the reading

here's a few pic's

I built a map for Unreal Tournament 4 using Minecraft via /r/Minecraft

I built a map for Unreal Tournament 4 using Minecraft

About

DM-LANguard is an 8 player deathmatch map for Unreal Tournament 4, built over the course of several months designed, built, and exported from Minecraft.

This was put together for the Level Design module of my Computer Games Design degree, with help from two friends and fellow students. We are all pretty terrible when it comes to 3D modelling, however we've put a few too many hours of our lives into building things in Minecraft, so we used what we knew about what makes a good arena shooter game map, and the tools we were familiar with to create this.

Initially we had only intended to use the minecraft world as a scale model prototype that we would later recreate using more conventional modelling software, but when our lecturer asked if it was possible to simply export what we had already built directly into unreal, we took that as "challenge accepted". The process was significantly more involved and time consuming than we had intially expected, but after months of work, and dozens of iterations later, we are happy to share it with you.

If anyone is interested in the steps necessary to do something similar themselves, I can probably write out the details at some point in the future.

Tools Used

Minecraft (obviously)
Mineways – used to export the minecraft level into a 3D model format.
3DS Max – used to clean up geometry and convert into a format suitable for importing into Unreal Tournament Editor.
Unreal Tournament Editor – The main engine used to make this playable. All the weapons, Armour, Health etc were added using this.
