Motorola Moto G Turbo Edition getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow

For the Motorola Moto G Turbo Edition owners who have been waiting to experience Android Marshmallow on their device, here is some good news: the update has started rolling out.

Weighing in at around 445MB, the update debuts in India and bumps the firmware version to 24.11.22. In addition to the usual Marshmallow goodies (including Doze, Google Now on Tap, and redesigned app permissions), the update also includes Google’s December security patch.

The Snapdragon 615-powered device, which also supports Qualcomm Fast Charging, was first unveiled in Mexico last November. It landed in India a month later carrying a price tag of INR 14,499, around $215 at current exchange rates.

There are currently no reports of the device getting the Marshmallow update in Mexico, but that should happen soon…

Huawei P9 tipped to come in four variants

Huawei’s upcoming P9 flagship smartphone will have as many as four variants, according to a new report. Aside from the standard P9, the other three variants will be the more budget-friendly P9lite, a P9max (which has already been spotted on AnTuTu), and an unnamed higher-specced P9.

As per the report, the unnamed fourth variant will have a slightly larger display as well as more RAM and internal memory compared to the standard P9. It will also feature a dual-lens 12 MP rear camera unit – if you recall, a couple of previous rumors have already hinted towards a dual camera on P9’s back.

The report also revealed that none of these variants will be unveiled at this year’s MWC, which is scheduled for late next month. It says that Huawei will instead announce them “several weeks post-MWC,” something which is inline with rumors of a March unveiling.

Finally, the report also noted that none of Huawei’s phones this year – including these P9 variants – will feature QHD resolution display. The reason is that Huawei doesn’t consider the resolution worth the trade-off in power…

Twitter experiencing serious outages

Twitter has been experiencing outages for over an hour now, with the homepage reading a rather specific error report. “Something’s technically wrong” is our favorite type of statement, though it’s good to know that the company is working to fix it.

Mind you, we’re talking about the desktop version. The apps are working just fine on both Android and iOS. Third-party clients on Windows are in an on-and-off state for the time…

Apple App Store prices increase in some markets due to exchange rate changes

Apple has announced that it will be increasing the prices of apps and in-app purchases in a number of countries to take into account changes in currency rates. The affected countries are Canada, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore and South Africa.

Subscription services in these countries will also see their prices altered. In Russia and South Africa users will need to resubscribe at the new prices, while in the rest of the countries subscribers will be notified in advance, before the current subscription expires with the option to cancel or renew at the increased prices. Israel won’t be affected, as there are no subscription services there as of now.

The changes are nothing new to the platform, and we reported on such a move back in July, when Mexico and South Africa were on the list again. This latest wave will become effective within the next 72 hours, so go app-shopping now, if it hasn’t hit you yet.

If you recall, back in February last year, we told you about the Saygus V2, an Android phone featuring top-of-the-shelf specs as well as dual 128GB microSD card slots. The $549 handset went up for pre-orders that month, and shipments were expected to begin soon.

However, that didn’t happen and the company kept delaying the shipments last year citing one reason or the other. Now, the company is saying that the device will start shipping this quarter.

Details: We hoped to ship in February, but the Chinese New Year eats up a couple of weeks then. Our CES 2016 projection of ‘Q1″ appears safe— Team Saygus (@Saygus) January 18, 2016

Saygus – which is a US-based company located in Salt Lake City – also explained that V2’s shipments got delayed due to the company’s business differences with one of its manufacturing partners.

The Holidays were busy and we apologize for the lack of updates! Our second ODM in 2015 was released for the vast difference in biz policy— Team Saygus (@Saygus) January 18, 2016

It has been a great relief not having to count on the words from a partner who may or may not provide us with accurate details or updates.— Team Saygus (@Saygus) January 18, 2016

Specs-wise, the V2 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 SoC and sports a 5″ 1080p screen. It has 3GB RAM and 64GB internal memory, and packs in a 3,100mAh battery. In terms of camera, the handset features a 21MP rear unit and a 13MP front shooter. There’s also a fingerprint scanner, and the device is…

Google now lets you install apps directly from Google Search results

Sometimes, when searching for something on the Google, you might see a suggestion to install an app. Normally, you’d click on the app suggestion which opens a link into the Play Store, and then you’d hit install and go from there.

The new feature is: If you click on a suggestion, the app will directly begin installing from the search results. You will get the installation banner that appears before downloading an app, all without having to open the Play Store at all.

This feature is a minor one that may be slowly but surely rolling out through Google Play Services. It looks like this will work when using the Google App or the Google Search widget on Android. It doesn’t seem like this would work from Chrome or another browser.

Android Police has had reports of this feature working dating back to about a month ago. While none of our devices were able to perform this action, let us know if you are able to do this using the Google app.
