Stephen Elop took the stage to open the Microsoft MWC 2015 event and right off the bat unveiled the Microsoft Lumia 640. After a brief intermission for a Windows 10 demo, Elop came back to unveil the larger Microsoft Lumia 640 XL.

Both phones will launch Windows Phone 8.1, but Microsoft's intention is to bring them and other modern Lumias to Windows 10. The duo is powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz processor.

The Microsoft Lumia 640 is bigger and has a better screen than other 6-series devices, it packs a 5" 720p display. The camera department has been upgraded too with an 8MP shooter. The camera also gained an LED flash, unlike previous models.

The phone will be very flexible when it comes to connectivity and come in single and dual-SIM versions, 3G and LTE versions. There will be a dual-SIM LTE version in case you were wondering.

There's a 2,500mAh battery to feed the larger screen and the advanced connectivity.

Nokia Lumia 640

The Microsoft Lumia 640 will be available in April and will come in a variety of colors, including Cyan, Orange, Black and White. The 3G version will cost €140, while the LTE version will be €160.

Microsoft's new phablet is in the affordable-but-capable 6-series, instead of the 13-series. The Microsoft Lumia 640 XL improves on its smaller namesake with a 5.7" HD screen. Despite the increase in size, the phone will measure 9mm thick and pack a 3,000mAh battery.

The camera got a premium upgrade courtesy of Zeiss lens in front of a 13MP sensor. This one also has an LED flash.

Microsoft Lumia 640 XL's features sound all the more impressive when you consider the price – €190 for the 3G version and €220 for the 4G LTE version. Again, there will be single and dual-SIM versions, including a 4G dual-SIM.

Both phones will be available on a wide range of carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile (both US and UK), Carphone Warehouse, EE, O2, Orange, MetroPCS and Telefonica.

Following the launch of its trio of tablets yesterday, Lenovo has now unveiled two smartphones – the Vibe Shot and A7000. The Lenovo Vibe Shot aims to blend a great camera experience within a smartphone frame, while the A7000 is a mid-range offering with Dolby Atmos technology inside.

The Lenovo Vibe Shot features a refreshing design and the back of the phone is reminiscent of a point-and-shoot camera. It's built around a 5" 1080p display and Lenovo has equipped it with Gorilla Glass for protection on both front and back.

The back holds a 16MP camera with a six-piece modular lens and a tri-color LED flash. The sensor features low-light back illumination and optical image stabilization, too. In order to focus faster, the camera boasts infrared focus feature. The Vibe Shot features a physical shutter button on the right side, as well.

Powering the Vibe Shot is a Snapdragon 615 chipset with a 64-bit quad-core CPU and 3GB of RAM. Additionally, there's 32GB of storage, further expanded by the microSD card slot that's on board. The battery is non-removable 2,900mAh Li-Po.

That's quite impressive considering the phone holds two nano SIM card slots in its 7.3mm thin aluminum casing. At the front, an 8MP selfie camera takes charge of video chatting.

Expect the phone to launch in grey, white and red with a price tag of $349 in June.

Lenovo A7000

Next up is Lenovo's latest mid-range offering. The Lenovo A7000 comes with a twist – it's the first smartphone to sport the Dolby ATMOS surround sound feature. It works with headphones plugged in and emphasizes sounds of people, places and things better, according to Lenovo. "Voices and noises have broader range from high to lows", as per the company, but we're yet to experience this for ourselves.

Additionally, the phone packs a 5.5" IPS HD display and a MediaTek chipset with a 1.5GHz octa-core processor plus 2GB of RAM. Storage is 8GB backed by a microSD card slot. The phone is dual-SIM ready and offers LTE connectivity.

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua just went official at the MWC 2015. The smartphone is a high-end mid-ranger without any compromises, according to Sony.

The Xperia M4 Aqua is IP68-certified device – this means it is dust-tight and can last for up to 30 minutes in 1.5m deep fresh water. It also offers cap-less microUSB port – a first for a water-proofed Sony – so you won’t need to fiddle with caps and charging will be easier.

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is built around a 5.2" IPS display of 720p resolution. It runs on the new Snapdragon 615 chipset with a 64-bit octa-core Cortex-A53 processor, Adreno 405 graphics and 2GB of RAM. The processor offers four Cortex-A53 cores ticking at 1.7GHz and another four clocked at 1.0GHz.

The M4 Aqua also comes with a rear 13MP Sony camera sensor at the back coupled with a LED flash. The front of the smartphone features a 5MP selfie snapper. The rest of the specs include 16GB expandable storage, 4G LTE connectivity and the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet

Sony didn't bring a new Xperia Z4 flagship phone on the MWC, but it sure make up for it with the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet. It's the company’s new high-end slate, a successor of the Xperia Z2 Tablet.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet comes with a 10.1" IPS display of 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution, which results into a nice pixel density of 300ppi. The display is enhanced by Sony's Triluminos technology and X-Reality Mobile engine.

The slate is powered by the Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 810 chip, which packs an octa-core 64-bit processor with four Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and four Cortex-A53 working at 1.5GHz. The GPU in charge of graphics is Adreno 430 and there is 3GB of RAM onboard.

The rest of the Xperia Z4 Tablet specs include 32GB expandable memory, a rear 8MP Sony ExmorRS camera and 5MP wide-angle front selfie snapper, stereo speakers and GSM, 3G and 4G LTE connectivity. The slate is powered by a 6,000 mAh battery and Sony says it will last 17 hours on video playback.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is IP68-certified, which translates in to a dust-tight shell and waterproof design with endurance for up to 30 minutes into 1.5m deep fresh water.

The highlights of the Xperia Z4 Tablet include the elegant design with a metal frame, durable glass and amazingly thin 6.1mm profile. Just like with the Xperia M4 Aqua, the Xperia Z4 Tablet comes with a cap-less microUSB port for easier recharging. The tablet weighs about 395 g and will be available in black and white flavors.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with the latest tablet-optimized Xperia launcher. It will also offer access to Xperia Lounge Gold service, which provides exclusive content such as movies, TV series, music and apps. The slate supports Hi-Res audio playback and digital noise cancelling.

The LTE and Wi-Fi models of Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet are going to hit the shelves worldwide in June this year, but the pricing is yet to be announced.

Sony BKB50 Bluetooth Keyboard

Sony has also showcased additional accessories, designed exclusively for the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet. The first one is the Sony BKB50 Bluetooth Keyboard – it’s an all-in-one detachable accessory with adjustable tilt angle (0-130 degrees), complete with a docking station and a full-blown hardware keyboard with a touchpad. The keyboard dock also comes with projector and printer ports.

Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge duo is now official and you can learn everything there is to know from our news coverage and extensive hands-on impressions.

Both Galaxy S6 smartphones use 16MP rear cameras with F/1.9 aperture and bright LED flash. Both devices also pack a front 5MP snapper with the same F/1.9 lens, which means better results in low-light conditions.

The HTC One M9 announcement is still fresh in our minds and carriers are riding the wave of hype and excitement to start preregistrations for the new metal-clad flagship.

USA

Sprint has revealed it will launch the HTC One M9 in early Spring, while T-Mobile just says "Spring." AT&T has announced it will offer the device, but hasn’t revealed a timeframe yet.

That only leaves Verizon, which is mum on the subject for now.

UK

EE will start pre-orders on March 9 and will exclusively offer the single-tone Gold version. Carphone Warehouse will start selling it later, in April.

O2 hasn’t announced a date, however it will offer you up to £171 if you hand in your (not so) old HTC One (M8).

Three is in on the One M9 parade, but offers no details yet.
