New Huawei Mate 8 renders show a mysterious sensor on the front

There is little doubt that the Huawei Mate 8 is on the company's roadmap, the only question is when exactly it is going to arrive and, even more-interestingly, how it will look. Previous leaks have indicated that the former might occur in September at the IFA, just like its predecessor.

As for the exterior, we have already seen a glimpse of what was said to be an early unit, but that was quite some time ago and now a new render sheds a little more light.

The picture in question allegedly portrays the successor of the Huawei Ascend Mate7 complete with a new metal rim all around as well as a few other apparent changes. Most notably, there is the weird sensor above the earpiece on the front of the unit.

It is obviously not the camera, which can be seen to the left and doesn't look like a flash – however, the dot right of the earpiece might be. This leaves us wondering what could be hiding underneath.

Perhaps it is simply a proximity and light sensor, but it could be something more-advanced. As already mentioned, the previous set of photos we have, show quite a different setup. Perhaps, the design has evolved since then as we can also spot that the front flash is absent on the older leaks and the speaker placement is different from what we see now.

As far as specs go, we expect the Huawei Mate 8 to come with a large 6-inch QHD display, 3GB of RAM and a 20MP main camera. Initially, the Kirin 930 SoC was listed in the specs, but plans might have changed and we could see the brand new beastly Kirin 950 with its four Cortex-A53 and four Cortex-A72 cores, complete with the Mali-T880…

Mysterious Motorola device pays a visit to FCC

Motorola is quietly working on several smartphones that have been in the rumor mill lately. One of those devices paid a visit to the Federal Communications Commission in the US for certification and revealed some details about itself.

The FCC Filing did not clearly mention the model number or name of the headset, but merely referred to it as model 5137. This smartphone measures 161.8mm diagonally, compared to 154.49mm for Motorola Droid Turbo.

The handset is expected to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 or Snapdragon 810 mobile chipset, as it has been tested for 4G LTE-Advanced radio. MIMO Wi-Fi has also been tested.

The phone will also be compatible with Motorola's Turbo Charger. There is no explicit mention of any other details in the filing documents.

Recently, a handset dubbed Motorola Kinzie was spotted with flagship-level hardware. However, we can not confirm whether the mysterious handset is the Kinzie.

OnePlus 2 will cost under $450, CEO promises

The latest entry into OnePlus' teaser campaign for its next smartphone has been revealed today. This time we get a quote straight from the company's CEO, Pete Lau.

As you can see in the image below, he promises that the OnePlus 2 will be priced under $450. We assume that means it will actually start at $449.

That's quite a departure from the OnePlus One's initial pricing of $299 (for the base model with 16GB of storage). Furthermore, this handset now starts at just $249, making the OnePlus 2 have quite a premium when compared to it.

The chipset used has something to do with that, as OnePlus has already explained. The company chose Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 for the job, which apparently is significantly more expensive than the 801 used in the OnePlus One.

The OnePlus 2 will have a fingerprint scanner and a USB Type-C port and will be officially outed on July 27 in virtual reality. We're sure OnePlus will keep teasing it until then.

Thanks for the tip, Saurabh…

Xiaomi Redmi 1S finally gets stable MIUI 6 update

Back in February, Xiaomi released the first beta build of its MIUI 6 ROM for the Redmi 1S. And here we are, many months later, and this has now become stable enough to go out to Redmi 1S owners across the globe as an over-the-air update.

The long testing period should hopefully have managed to iron out all the bugs, and thus today's release has been deemed stable. The full changelog is available at the Source link below.

The news comes straight from Xiaomi's official forum. The version of MIUI currently going out is 6.6.1.0. Obviously it may take a few days for the update mechanism to notify you about the new build, but many people have already received it.

MIUI 6 debuted last August, and it's currently the latest iteration of Xiaomi's UI overlay that sits atop Android. Up until now, the very affordable Redmi 1S was stuck on the older MIUI 5, unlike Xiaomi's higher-end devices. However, do note that by all accounts underneath the nice looking MIUI 6 interface still lurks Android 4.4 KitKat, a version of Google's OS that's ancient by mobile world standards.

Thanks for the tip,…
