Apple expected to launch updated iPod touch, nano, and shuffle today

Apple will be releasing updated versions of the iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle, according to sources at 9to5Mac.

The updated iPod touch is said to have an updated camera, from 5 megapixel on the current model to an 8 megapixel sensor, likely the same 8 megapixel iSight camera found on the iPad Air 2. There will also be a new 64-bit chipset with M series motion co-processor. The new iPod touch will be available 16, 64 and 128GB models for $199, $299, and $399, respectively. It will be available in a new gold, blue, and pink color options.

The iPod nano and shuffle won't see much difference, other than the new color options.

It's odd that Apple is choosing to update the iPods now. The last time the company announced new iPods was back in 2012. Despite dropping sales, and Apple having even removed the iPod category from its website navigation bar, it's interesting to see some love being shown to the ageing iPod…

Analysts expect big drop in Asus’ tablet shipments this year

Asus is expected to ship around 6-7 million tablets this year, according to a new report out of China which cites analysts. That's down a worrying 30% from the 9.4 million units the company shipped in 2014.

The report also says that the Taiwan-based company managed to ship around 2.5 million tablets in the first half of the ongoing year, which is down 39% year-on-year.

Quarter-wise, Asus shipped 1.5 million units in the first quarter and 1 million units in Q2 2015, although its goal was to ship 1.8 and 1.2 million units in the first two quarters, respectively. The report comes just days after the company's ZenPad S 8.0 tablet went on sale in the…

Apple’s App Store reaches 1.5 million available apps

It is amazing to see how much Apple's software market has grown since its humble launch back in 2008. Initially the App Store debuted along with iOS 2.0.1 and a total of about 500 apps, which back then was a colossal number of third-party code to have for your smartphone.

According to current appshopper.com statistics, the platform now hosts over 1.5 million apps, 1,505,601 at the time of writing this article and growing by the minute. And this only includes currently active projects, if we count all that were withdrawn throughout the years, we get an even more-impressive number – 2,312,658.

As a side note, the App Store is not limited to iOS only and also hosts OSX software, as well as custom-tailored apps for the iPad. The former, however represent an insignificant percent of the portfolio – about 23,000 on total. The iPad, on the other hand, has been getting a lot of tailored attention with almost half a million dedicated apps.

Adobe fixes flash player flaws found in Hacking Team leak

Just over a week after hackers compromised Italy-based spy software company Hacking Team's systems, revealing a couple of critical zero-day Flash vulnerabilities, Adobe has released an update fixing the flaws.

Carrying version 18.0.0.209, the update is available for Flash Player plugin on Windows, Mac as well as Linux. You are advised to install the update right now as the vulnerabilities could potentially allow an attacker to take control of an unpatched system.

This comes just a day after Facebook's chief security officer Alex Stamos called for an end to Adobe Flash support.
