Samsung Galaxy Tab E 9.6 is now available at Verizon with 4G LTE

The mid-range Galaxy Tab E 9.6 that Samsung announced in Asia back in June has now made its official debut in the US. This happened thanks to Verizon, as the carrier saw fit to offer the tablet in its portfolio.

The Galaxy Tab E 9.6 is already available at Big Red, online and in stores, for $329.99 if you want to pay the full retail price. Alternatively, you can shell out $13.74 per month for two years, if you choose the carrier’s tablet installment plan, or pay $129.99 and sign a new two-year contract.

Verizon’s version of the Tab E 9.6 packs 4G LTE support, as well as a beefier battery than the international model. It comes with a 9.6-inch 1,280×800 touchscreen, a 5 MP rear camera, a 2 MP front-facing unit, a 1.3 GHz quad-core CPU, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, and a 7,300 mAh battery. It runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

New HTC One A9 live image leaks confirming specs yet again

The upcoming HTC One A9 (codenamed Aero) just keeps on leaking. A few hours ago we brought you leaked press renders showing all of its color versions, and now it’s time for a new image to feast your eyes upon.

This one is a live image, showing a One A9 out there in the wild somewhere. We’ve seen something like this before, but this time around the picture quality is better.

The photo comes to confirm some of the One A9’s specs for the umpteenth time, thanks to what can be seen on the phone’s screen. We should thus expect it to sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 5-inch 1080p touchscreen, and a fingerprint scanner which can be seen below the display as part of that huge bottom bezel.

The One A9 may get official at an event next week, on September 29, or its unveiling could be scheduled for October according to one past rumor. If this pans out, then expect to see multi-city events happening in the US for this purpose, and the One A9 getting a big marketing budget afterwards.

First Samsung Gear S2 batch snatched in two hours in South Korea

There’s a healthy demand for the Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch in its home South Korea, it would appear, judging by the rate at which pre-orders accumulated. Scheduled to be made available in the country on October 2, the wearable was briefly listed on Samsung’s local site, now sold out.

The limited batch of 1,000 units of the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic was gone in two hours. Korean analysts note that the market reception is as warm as those enjoyed by the original Gear S and the Apple Watch.

Meanwhile, industry sources have stated that the smartwatch will come with 16 to 18 apps on board, no less than a dozen of which you won’t be able to remove. Running Tizen OS, the Gear S2 (Classic or not) won’t let you get of rid of obvious basics like Messages, Calls, Email, Gallery and S-Health.

Buddy is one the other apps you’ll be getting, which will be a permanent fixture on the Gear S2, and it’s a sort of auto favorite contacts. Looking for My Device (a shorter, more watch-friendly name may be in order, perhaps) may be genuinely useful for locating connected smartphones behind the couch, while Syrup Wallet is a simple payment solution for membership-based services.

LG G4 stops by DxO Labs, rated second best

Some 5 months after the release of the LG G4 and hot on the heels of rumors of the G5’s sensor, DxO Labs has published its review of the smartphone’s camera.

Putting image quality within the confines of numbers is bound to be a flawed procedure, but when done consistently makes for some straight-forward comparisons. The LG G4 takes the podium, second to the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge (and, by extension, the identically equipped S6, S6 edge+ and Note5), with the same 83 points as the Galaxy Note 4 and Motorola Moto X Style. Oddly the Moto X Style’s 83 points are not as good as the others’ – its bar is shorter by a few pixels.

That’s the overall image quality score, and in still images the G4 posts an even higher rating of 86 (still second). The best results the phone scores in the autofocus category, where it gets praise for being “fast, accurate and consistent”. Detail and exposure also get especially high marks, as well as the noise reduction algorithms.

Video shooting is not as exciting, where the 79 mark places the G4 in third, behind the S6 edge and the iPhone 6. While exposure and colors are rated high, the stabilization shows imperfections manifested by “jello effect along with visible juddering and residual motion”. In all fairness, it’s still better than the S6 edge and the iPhone 6 in this test.

New LG V10 teaser offers a glimpse of the device’s dual-screen

As you have probably heard, LG is planning to spice things up a little with the upcoming LG V10. What started out as a quirky and quite questionable dual screen phablet, has now passed through TENAA and appeared in a few leaks, more or less proving its existence.

But if there was any doubt left, LG’s new teaser for the product, definitively proves that the smartphone will be unveiled on October 1. The video itself doesn’t really offer too much info, nor does it give us a proper look and the V10. All we get is a glimpse of the second screen near the top of the unit, along with what looks to be a dual front camera setup.

Thankfully, a previous render does offers a better view of the V10, with the small secondary screen clearly visible above the main display. In this render it’s filled with five app shortcuts, but perhaps it will have some other uses too – we can imagine LG might allow it to also show a few contacts, for example, in a similar fashion to the Edge display on Samsung’s Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+.

The teaser video does offer a vague reference to personalization with the “be you” slogan, so we can only assume that this will be LG’s main marketing angle for the device. It is still interesting to see exactly how the second screen will work.

According to the aforementioned TENAA listing, the LG V10 will spout a spacious 5.7-inch QHD display and run on the Snapdragon 808 SoC, just like the LG G4. Memory is set at 3GB and 64GB of expandable storage.

The camera setup consists of a 16MP main shooter with a dual-LED flash and what is listed as a 5MP shooter on the front….

BlackBerry Priv— Evan Blass (@evleaks) September 23, 2015

Back in June this year, in the wake of reports that BlackBerry is planning to launch an Android phone, the Canadian company’s CEO John Chen had said that they are open to Android if they can make the phone secure enough. And the name Priv (which seems to be short for privacy or private here) certainly falls in line with that vision.

From what is known till now, the handset is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 808 chipset, and come with 3GB of RAM. It is said to feature an 18MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, and run Android Lollipop.
