Just a couple of weeks after Samsung launched its mobile payments service Samsung Pay in the US, there are reports that competitor LG is working on its own such service dubbed G Pay.

As per reports, South Korea’s number 2 tech giant confirmed earlier this month that a Samsung Pay competitor is in the works, but said that any official announcement related to it will be made at the “appropriate time.” It is also being reported that LG has already trademarked the ‘G Pay’ moniker both in South Korea as well as the US.

As for the service, there aren’t any details available at the moment, although there are rumors that it will be more versatile and have more payments options compared to Samsung’s…

Canon announces EOS M10, PowerShot G5 X and G9 X

Canon has launched three new cameras, the EOS M10, the PowerShot G5 X and the PowerShot G9 X.

EOS M10

The EOS M10 is the newest member of the rather small EOS M family, Canon’s mirrorless interchangeable lens series of cameras. The EOS M10 has Canon’s 18 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with ISO range of 100 – 12800, DIGIC 6 processor, Hybrid CMOS AF II with 4.6fps burst mode, 3.0-inch tilting touchscreen LCD, 1080p30 video, built-in flash, NFC and Wi-Fi. The camera supports EF-M lenses by default and Canon’s EF and EF-S lenses using an adapter. The camera comes with a new retractable EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM zoom lens out of the box.

Canon is positioning this as a camera for ‘selfies’ and for people who want ‘Likes’, words you’d never thought you’d hear from Canon. The camera is priced at $599.99 with the lens. The EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM zoom lens costs $299.99. Both will be available in November.

PowerShot G9 X

The G9 X is the cheaper of the two new PowerShots, because Canon doesn’t understand how numbers work. The G9 X has a 20 megapixel 1.0-inch type sensor with an ISO range of 125 – 12,800, DIGIC 6 processor, f/2.0 – f/4.9, 3x Canon Optical Zoom Lens with image stabilization, 3.0-inch touchscreen LCD, 1080p60 video, 6fps burst mode, RAW mode, built-in flash, built-in ND filter, Wi-Fi and NFC. The G9 X will be available in classic black, or in a retro-style, silver-gray body with brown stitched leather accents.

The PowerShot G9 X will be available for $529.99 in November.

PowerShot G5 X

The G5 X is mostly similar to the G9 X but has a few extra things. First of all it has an electronic viewfinder. The OLED viewfinder has a resolution of 2.36 million dots. The 1.04 million dot LCD has a touchscreen and also tils and swivels. The lens is also faster, an f/1.8 – f/2.8 with image stabilization. The G5 X also has more controls and dials and is generally larger and not as pocketable as the G9 X.

The G5 X will be available for $799.99 in November.

Acer Jade Primo will ship with Continuum dock, keyboard, and mouse

Acer has officially confirmed today that it will bundle a Continuum dock, a keyboard, as well as a mouse with its Jade Primo Windows 10 phone when it launches.

This makes Acer the first Windows 10 handset manufacturer to go this route, allowing people to take advantage of Microsoft’s vision of a phone that ‘turns’ into a PC from the moment they receive it.

Taking advantage of the Continuum feature that’s built into Windows 10, you’ll be able to use the docked Jade Primo with a monitor and the bundled keyboard and mouse pretty much like a real Windows PC.

The Acer Jade Primo boasts a 5.5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED touchscreen, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC, 3GB of RAM, a 21 MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, an 8 MP selfie snapper, and a USB Type-C port. It’s expected to be cheaper than Microsoft’s own Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL.

Next OnePlus phone stops by TENAA, new pictures outed

The upcoming OnePlus Mini or OnePlus X was certified by the US FCC just last week, and now it’s already been given the go-ahead for sales in China too. TENAA, the government agency in charge of such things over there, has publicized the phone’s certification today.

And as always, TENAA is also giving us an idea of what the next OnePlus smartphone will look like. Although the quality of its pictures is less than stellar, at least we have something to look at until OnePlus decides to finally make the Mini (or X) official.

The shot of the back clearly shows the exact same device that’s been at the FCC, while the front features the same capacitive touch button arrangement as the already available OnePlus 2. Also similar to the Chinese startup’s current flagship is the notification switch on the left. And once again it’s impossible to tell if the back cover is made out of plastic or glass. The handset does seem to have a metal frame.

TENAA has also helpfully listed a few specs, such as a 4.99-inch touchscreen, and a 2,450 mAh battery. The new OnePlus’ dimensions are said to be 140 x 69 x 6.9 mm, which sound a lot more plausible than those released by the FCC, which portrayed an oddly long and narrow phone.
