You can now get your hands on an iPad Pro, we did. Apple’s XL-sized tablet marks a new chapter in Cupertino’s tablet efforts, one where the iPad goes from a content consumption gadget to a content creation one.

The first-party keyboard and stylus are key for that. There have been third-party solutions almost for as long as there has been an iPad, but they never had iOS-level support nor Apple’s design touch. Editing 4K videos is also a key selling point – the tablet can stream three 4K videos simultaneously and edit one.

Whatever your work orientation, the huge 12.9″ 2,048 x 2,732px screen makes even flagship laptops jealous and is much more conductive to working rather than just browsing. It’s 78% bigger than an iPad Air screen and due to its 4:3 aspect ratio looks much bigger than even the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2.

The Apple Pencil, that’s the stylus, is tracked 240 times per second so you can draw with no lag and its pressure sensitive too. Galaxy Note users aren’t that impressed though, S Pens have done that for years and without battery too.

The keyboard seems like it threatens the MacBook Air, but Apple says it will never make a converged laptop (with Apple “never” is just another word for “not yet”). The Microsoft Surface has several generations of keyboard cases and the new Surface Book feels even more like a laptop – you can adjust the angle of the screen, which you can’t with Apple’s tablet.

We’ll understand if you’re tempted to get an iPad Pro just for gaming. The latest Apple A9X chipset is a beast and it’s paired with 4GB of RAM (the most any iOS device has ever seen). The quad speaker setup is pretty sweet too, but packing up the Pro for a weekend getaway is not easy – the tablet is about as portable as a MacBook Air.

So, that’s it then – a novel tablet in Apple’s lineup, even if it’s not very innovative considering the rest of the market. It will attract professionals, maybe some hardcore Apple users and people who pay premium for oversized gaming laptops.

Our weekly news recap is due, with a roundup of the most interesting stories from the past few days.

The Pepsi Phone P1 was by far the most intriguing read of the week – it’s got to be the first time we’ve seen a beverage company slap its brand on a smartphone, and it is a pretty well-specced one, at a bargain price, too. And “bargain price” is all that can be said of the LG Lucky LG16 smartphone, listed on Walmart for less than ten bucks, though unavailable at the moment.

Another top story was the launch of the Lenovo Vibe X3. A total of three versions, one of them practically a different phone, were unveiled in China and we’re waiting for the global variants. And as if there weren’t enough One-branded devices already, HTC pulled the wraps off the One M9s this week – with the body of an M9 and downgraded hardware.

There was about the usual amount of iPhone rumors too. The potential 4-inch iPhone keeps entertaining tech minds, and this latest bit claims it will be based on the 5s. And then the proper iPhone 7 could be waterproof, why not?

Samsung on the other hand went bonkers and launched a flip phone with dual 3.9-inch AMOLED displays, Exynos 7420, and a price tag upwards of $1500. Don’t go rushing to the store as it’s only available in China. Samsung’s sane release of the week was the Galaxy J3 – an affordable 5-incher. Benchmark results of the Exynos 8890 also caught your attention.

Microsoft-related news also gathered a lot of interest. The mystical Surface Phone allegedly showed up on a browser benchmark, fueling rumors that Microsoft might indeed be working on 100% home-grown smartphone breaking all ties with the Nokia heritage.

Facebook at Work has gotten its first mobile app. Called Work Chat, the app lets Facebook at Work users to communicate with each other over one-on-one chats, group messaging, and voice calls. It’s basically Facebook Messenger, but for Facebook at Work.

For those not aware, Facebook at Work is Facebook’s corporate service for companies. In order to use it, your company needs to sign up with Facebook, after which you can have your own little social network with your office employees within Facebook. Now with the new mobile app, it just got a little easier to keep in touch with your colleagues.

Work Chat is only available on Android for now, with the iOS version still in development. You need a Facebook at Work account to use it.

Announced a couple of months ago, the consumer edition of the Samsung Gear VR headset has been up for pre-order in the US for a couple of weeks, and in Europe for the past few days too. Well, it’s started shipping in the States, and if you weren’t among the early birds, you should be able to order yours today on Amazon and BestBuy, though both retailers list the $99 device as out of stock.

Logistics are one thing, content is another. If for example you want to catch a glimpse of what it’s like being on Mars, you’d be able to do so thanks to Twentieth Century Fox. The film studio has released a preview of ‘The Martian VR Experience’ – a 360-degree look through the eyes of an astronaut on the Red Planet.

First mentioned in a trademark filing all the way back in March, the Samsung Galaxy A9 is about to materialize. Indication of that comes from a listing on GeekBench, where a Samsung SM-A9000 model has been put to the test.

Dated yesterday, the entry in the database now sees the Galaxy A9 appear with its genuine model number. Back in September another Samsung device was listed with identical specs but an unintelligible name, though it was already speculated then that it was indeed the A9. It later showed up on Antutu as well, sporting the same chipset.

So the Galaxy A9 will indeed feature a Snapdragon 620 SoC(MSM8976), its CPU having a dual quad-core big.LITTLE arrangement with a cluster of Cortex-A72 cores and another one with Cortex-A53’s. What’s new this time around, is that the chip is geared towards better single core performance (1,446 points versus 1,325 in September). The multi-core result, on the other hand, is some 300 points lower now.

With the Galaxy A3 (2016) and A5 (2016) now having passed FCC certification, and live units of those two plus the A7 (2016) out and about, we could be looking at an all new A-series lineup any time soon, save for the only even-numbered Galaxy…

There’s a certain set of stops a smartphone needs to make before it’s allowed to hit the stores and in the US one such hurdle is the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Its database is often a source of intel on upcoming model launches and in this case we’re talking about the Samsung Galaxy A3 (2016) and the Galaxy A5 (2016).

Now, the vast majority of the data, included in one such filing, is dry legal documentation and not readily digestible test results. You’re also unlikely to care about the FCC certification label placement, even more so now that manufacturers have generally switched to e-labels – a menu item buried somewhere in the settings. Both the A3 (2016) and A5 (2016) will have one those, by the way.

But the one concrete bit of info, revealed by the FCC (or Samsung, whoever took the screenshot and put in the docs) on this occasion, is the A5 (2016) battery capacity and it’s a very generous 2,900mAh. That’s a substantial 600mAh increase over this year’s Galaxy A5, which was already a dependable performer in the battery department, as we established during our review time with it. The next-gen A3’s papers aren’t as revealing, though, so no precise numbers there.

The Galaxy A5 (2016) was already spotted in live images, once alongside the A7 (2016), and next to the A3 (2016) a week earlier. There was a certain inconsistency between the two sightings, but we’ll be finding sooner rather than later which one is the real deal.

After laying off 20 employees back in June this year, fitness wearable maker Jawbone has cut 60 more jobs, which translates into 15% of the company’s total employee strength.

The layoffs are global and aren’t aimed at any particular area of the company’s business – if you aren’t in the know, the company also manufactures speakers and Bluetooth headsets. In addition to the layoffs, the company is also shutting its New York office and scaling down satellite operations in Sunnyvale and Pittsburgh.

“Jawbone’s success over the past 15 years has been rooted in its ability to evolve and grow dynamically in a rapidly scaling marketplace,” said a company spokesperson. “As part of our strategy to create a more streamlined and successful company, we have made the difficult decision to reorganize the company which has had an impact on our global workforce. We are sad to see colleagues go, but we know that these changes, while difficult for those impacted, will set us up for greater success.”

The company recently entered the Indian market in partnership with e-commerce giant Amazon.

The day HTC unveiled its upper-midrange offering One A9 last month, the company also revealed that the device will receive every Android update within 15 (business) days of the Nexus line having received it.

True to its promise, the Taiwanese company has just announced that the November security update has started rolling out to the handset in the US.

As you can see above, the announcement came in the form of a tweet, where-in the company also noted that aside from latest Android security improvements, the update also brings camera improvements and some bug fixes.
