Facebook says that Live Video is coming to Android soon

Social networks are constantly changing and evolving to keep up with the the demands of today’s fast-moving society. One social media trend that’s taken off over the past year is live video streaming. Meerkat and Periscope spent a few months duking it out to see who could expand more quickly, with Periscope ultimately taking the top spot in live video streaming.

But Periscope isn’t getting exclusivity on the live video streaming market. Facebook is entering into the live video streaming market with its aptly-titled Live Video. The company began testing the feature in December and today announced that it was rolling the feature out to all iPhone users within the US. Global expansion will follow in the coming weeks.

Android users will have to wait a bit longer, as Facebook has said no more than that Live Video for Android is coming “soon”. With that vague of a timeframe, it’s safe to assume that the wait will be closer to weeks and months rather than days.

Utilizing Live Video is simple. You can simply tap on “Update Status” and then tap on the Live Video icon. Before streaming begins, you can write a quick description of what you’ll be streaming as well as choosing the audience that you want to share with. Once you end the live stream, the video will be saved to your timeline and can be watched and replayed by you and your friends.

Lenovo CEO: “more innovative, more attractive” Moto device coming in July

Tomorrow will mark the two-year anniversary of Lenovo’s announcement that it would purchase Motorola Mobility. Since the two companies became one, Motorola has continued to function much the same as before. But change may be in the works. Just weeks ago, Lenovo announced that the Motorola brand would be phased out. Future devices created by the Motorola branch of Lenovo will be sold under the Lenovo name and the Moto brand which has been popularized with phones such as the Moto X and Moto G.

The first of those new Moto phones may not be too far in the future. In a recent interview, Lenovo CEO Yuanqing Yang said that the company would be launching a “more innovative, [and] more attractive” Moto device in July. This device will launch in the US and will be an attempt to strengthen the foothold that Motorola has in the country.

Lenovo’s own mobile brand doesn’t yet have a presence in the US, so at present, the company is leveraging the Moto brand as a means to pave the way for the launch of Lenovo’s personal brand within the US. Within developing countries, however, Lenovo has plans to snatch up some of the newly available market share. In particular, Yang mentioned the markets of India, Africa and the Middle East.

As a whole, Lenovo sees the mobile market as a means to help guide customers towards Lenovo’s PCs. Even with global PC sales declining, Lenovo is of the opinion that consumers will soon begin to shift back to more capable PCs. If the company can secure customers in the mobile market, it has a much higher likelihood of persuading those customers to purchase Lenovo PCs over competitor brands.

Whether or not Lenovo’s prediction will come to pass remains to be seen, but we look forward to seeing what the company brings to the table in the mobile market.

Cómo ponerle una tarjeta microSD a un Nexus 5

Cada vez hay menos smartphones que incluyen la capacidad de ampliar su memoria mediante tarjetas microSD, y aunque al parecer hay algunas compañías que quieren volver a implementar esta funcionalidad, hay otras muchas que prefieren suprimir esta característica con el fin de que el futuro usuario se gaste más dinero en un dispositivo de mayor capacidad antes de que pueda ampliar su memoria de una manera más barata.

Aunque hace ya casi 3 años que LG y Google unieron sus fuerzas para lanzar el Nexus 5, este popular dispositivo sigue dando guerra incluso en 2016, pues parece que según un post en Phandroid, un usuario ha conseguido añadir una de las características que le faltaban a este dispositivo, la capacidad de ampliar la memoria mediante tarjeta microSD. ¿Quieres saber cómo lo ha hecho?, te lo contamos a continuación.

Añadiendo memoria al Nexus 5 original

Este usuario ‘manitas’ ha conseguido soldar un pequeño y barato lector de tarjetas en la placa del dispositivo, para ello, ha tenido que cambiar la distribución de los altavoces y de algunas antenas. Y el resultado, es el que vemos en la imagen anterior.

La desventaja de realizar esta modificación en nuestro dispositivo, es que la carcasa trasera no encajará de nuevo en el terminal, para remediarlo, podemos colocar una funda trasera de TPU o silicona, y así poder tapar los circuitos electrónicos del interior del smartphone.

Lo más sorprendente de esta modificación, es que el sistema operativo ha reconocido la tarjeta microSD directamente sin necesidad de instalar ningún MOD o aplicación de terceros, una medida que, junto a la implementación de la nueva versión de Android, Marshmallow, que nos permite utilizar la tarjeta microSD como memoria interna, puede dar una nueva vida a este antiguo dispositivo aumentando sustancialmente la capacidad de aplicaciones y datos que podría almacenar.

WhatsApp supera los mil millones de usuarios activos

En muchas ocasiones hemos hablado de Whatsapp. Que si es un mensajero inseguro, falto de características, demasiado mainstream, entre otras muchas cosas; no obstante, es innegable el poderío que ostenta en el ecosistema tecnológico actual, por algo Mark Zuckerberg lo compró hace un par de años.

El día de ayer, Zuckerberg dio a conocer los resultados financieros del último trimestre fiscal del año pasado, así como los mismos resultados totales de todo 2015. Junto con unas cifras estrepitosas que siguen posicionando a Facebook como la red social más popular de todas, Mark también anunció que el mensajero esmeralda también ha crecido como la espuma en muy pocos meses.

El sitio Market Watch reporta que durante la presentación se mencionó que WhatsApp creció 100 millones de usuarios en tan solo tres meses. Hablemos de números, esto quiere decir que la aplicación creada por Jan Koum pasó de tener 900 millones de usuarios activos al mes en septiembre pasado a cerrar el tercer trimestre de 2015 con mil millones de usuarios activos.

Esta cantidad de usuarios es simplemente impresionante, y avasalla a todos y cada uno de los competidores del segmento de la mensajería instantánea. La única excepción que podemos mencionar es Facebook Messenger, el mensajero de la red social que con sus modestos 800 millones de usuarios al mes avanza lento, pero seguro.

Es importante mencionar que, sea como sea, los usuarios de WhatsApp y Messenger son fieles a Facebook, ya que ambos mensajeros pertenecen a la misma compañía. En resumen, Mark Zuckerberg tiene en sus manos el dominio mundial de la mensajería instantánea, ya que las dos mencionadas aplicaciones son las que cuentan con mayor número de usuarios.

¿Por qué WhatsApp es tan popular?

No será la primera vez que ponemos en evidencia la falta de funciones de WhatsApp frente a otros mensajeros. Telegram, por ejemplo, cuenta con mayores ventajas, tanto de seguridad como de interacción (y aquí está el listado que lo prueba), sin embargo sigue muy por debajo en cuestión de expansión y usuarios.

Esto se debe a que WhatsApp fue la primera aplicación móvil de mensajería instantánea. Sí, existían otras opciones, pero únicamente se podían usar en escritorio, mientras que el segmento móvil era dominado por los arcaicos mensajes de texto. Fue entonces cuando WhatsApp apareció y… bueno, ya todos conocemos la historia que día a día se escribe.

Esta vez le tomó a WhatsApp tres meses, aproximadamente, crecer 100 millones de usuarios. Si tenemos en cuenta que este año se esperan grandes cambios y mejoras, como la llegada de las videollamadas, ¿cuánto tiempo le tomará crecer otro tanto igual?

El HTC One M10 volvería a la cámara UltraPixel y tendría pantalla QHD

Por la información que ha sido filtrada hasta el momento, sabemos que HTC se está preparando para presentar su terminal más potente y atractivo hasta la fecha. Y es que si la firma asiática pretende salir del enorme agujero negro en el que se encuentra actualmente, necesita colocar toda la carne en el asador, arriesgarlo todo en un último buque insignia.

Las cosas no fueron nada bien con el HTC One A9, un smartphone con el que la compañía pretendió emular la filosofía de otras marcas, presentado un terminal con características de gama media y precio de gama alta. A pesar de todo y aunque los resultados de venta de este dispositivo no hayan sido tan desastrosos como se esperaban, HTC dejó un mal sabor de boca a sus seguidores.

Ahora, parece que HTC intenta redimirse, y es que desde la gente de VentureBeats, nos llegan noticias frescas acerca del próximo tope de gama de la firma. El famoso filtrador de terminales Evan Blass (@EvLeaks), al que las marcas deben odiar desde hace ya un tiempo, afirma que el llamado HTC Perfume traerá un panel AMOLED con resolución QHD.

Las buenas nuevas no se quedan sólo aquí, sino que además Blass manifiesta que el próximo buque insignia de HTC vendrá con una asombrosa cámara de 12 UltraPíxeles asistida por láser. En cuanto al software, el HTC Perfume traerá Android 6.0.1 maquillado con la capa de personalización Sense 8.0, por lo que veremos la última versión del sistema operativo en el buque insignia.

Asimismo, Blass confirma que el One M10 será el primer buque insignia de su familia en incorporar un sensor de huellas dactilares en la parte inferior de la pantalla. En cuanto a los componentes internos, según Blass veremos el esperado procesador Snapdragon 820, junto al Adreno 530 en el apartado gráfico. Respecto a la memoria, veremos 4 GB de RAM y 32 GB de almacenamiento interno, con la posibilidad de ampliar a través de microSD.

En cuanto al apartado fotográfico, nos alegra saber que HTC brindará una nueva oportunidad a su interesante tecnología UltraPixel, la cual quedó descartada en el One M9. No obstante, esta vez parece que la compañía apostará por un número más alto de megapíxeles respecto al One M8, presumiendo el M10 de 12 megapíxeles.

No ha habido información todavía acerca de la fecha de presentación, aunque se sabe a ciencia cierta que HTC dejará pasar la oportunidad de presentar su próximo tope de gama en el Mobile World Congress de Barcelona el próximo mes de febrero.

Downwell, el mejor juego arcade de 2015 llega por fin a Android

Ojiro, un desarrollador de videojuegos independiente, revolucionó el año pasado la escena indie con su primer proyecto serio; Downwell. Acogido por Devolver Digital (Hotline Miami, Double Barrel…) que actuó como distribuidor, este título fue una gran sorpresa, y, dió un gran golpe sobre la mesa, siendo el juego del año para muchos entusiastas del medio y miembros de la prensa especializada.

No fue tanto porque un juego tan “tapadillo” estuviese en el ojo de todos, si no porque es un título cuya principal característica no es una excelente historia, gráficos increíbles o mecánicas innovadoras, sino, la fórmula arcade perfecta. Un gameplay tan sólido y adictivo que debería estar prohibido por ser considerado una droga.

Afortunadamente, y, tras una larga espera, el título ha llegado a Android. Se supone que iba a salir a finales de octubre del año pasado, pero no sabemos como, se ha retrasado durante todo este tiempo hasta ahora.

La receta de la diversión

En Downwell, nuestro objetivo es muy simple. Debemos llegar al fondo de un profundo pozo, ayudado por nuestras gunboots (botas pistola), pero no será nada fácil. Nuestro camino hacia lo desconocido, estará obstaculizado por diferentes criaturas que nos harán la vida imposible.

Podría tirarme horas hablando de lo increíble que es su kinestésica o de lo interesante que es el sistema de combos, o el cambio de armas que no insta a cambiar para adaptarnos a todos los estilos de juego, pero prefiero recomendarte que lo compres cuanto antes y descubras todo esto por tí mismo.

Su diseño artístico, se integra perfectamente con el juego, y nos ayuda con su uso del color a entender rápidamente lo que está pasando en pantalla, además, su estilo low pix pixel art resalta con fluidez gracias a los 60 fps a los que funciona el juego incluso en dispositivos más humildes.

No lo dudes ni un segundo, hazte con Downwell ya.

Specs leak for the HTC One M10; this year’s smartphone to beat?

HTC has had a rough time over the past couple of years. The company has struggled financially for quite some time, but it looked to be on the road to recovery after launching the oft-praised HTC One M7. The company followed that success up with the One M8, another hit. But last year’s HTC One M9 was a miss for the company, failing to move forward in any substantial way.

This year, HTC looks to be coming out swinging with the upcoming HTC One M10. The device will reportedly be one of HTC’s most advanced devices to date, and a new specs leak from VentureBeat appears to confirm that.

HTC is reportedly packing the One M10 with a 5.1-inch QHD (2560×1440) AMOLED display, making it the first HTC global flagship to feature a QHD display. In terms of horsepower, the One M10 will reportedly utilize Qualcomm’s powerful new Snapdragon 820 process paired with an Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the prototype device in question had 23GB of usable storage, indicating a storage capacity of at least 32GB.

The One M10 also reportedly features a fingerprint scanner built into a physical home button. Unfortunately, we still can’t be too sure about the design, as the leaker declined to comment on the design, aside from mentioning that the device no longer features front-facing BoomSound speakers, which will be a disappointment to many HTC fans. The leaker also mentioned that the design may be subject to change, so take potential design leaks with a grain of salt.

While HTC has swung back and forth with its camera technology, the company looks to be returning to its homegrown UltraPixel technology for the One M10. UltraPixels, of course, are intended to improve low-light performance, though their effectiveness has been somewhat debated. The device will reportedly feature a 12-UltraPixel rear camera with laser autofocus. Additionally, both the front and rear cameras on the One M10 will utilize optical image stabilization, helping to avoid shaking in video and low-light.

As it currently stands, HTC looks to have a very strong device on its hands. We can’t predict the future, but from how it sounds, it seems that HTC could have a winner, potentially turning the company around if it’s marketed correctly.

HTC reportedly won’t be announcing the One M10 at Mobile World Congress. Instead, the company is planning to wait and announce the device at its own event later in the spring. Until then, we’ll continue to keep you up to date on the latest HTC One M10 rumors.
