The first gen Moto 360 was the first smartwatch a lot of people were genuinely in love with. The thin metal body, the round display, and the sheer elegance of it (for a smartwatch anyway) won a lot of people over even when the specs were borderline disappointing. Unfortunately, the Google Store has finally killed it off, along with the Sony Smartwatch 3.
It’s entirely expected for these older devices to be removed from the Google Store. The second generation Moto 360 has long been up for sale and is a worthy upgrade over the aging first gen. Plus, you can get the first gen for a lower price elsewhere. The Sony Smartwatch 3 never got a successor though, so it’s a shame to see it go.

The Google OnHub router duo is Google’s entry into the home network game, and it’s a good one. The routers are expensive but a joy to use, with no complicated menus and setup. The actual hardware is great too. It’s missing a lot of advanced features, but it’s constantly being updated.
The latest update comes with support for guest WiFi networks, along with customizable device sharing. You can now create a guest WiFi network, making it easier for your guests to get online, and even allow some devices to be available to those on the guest network. For example, you can make your Chromecast visible to guests without having to give them your main network password.
OnHub routers are constantly getting updated with new features, so it’s always a good time to buy one. I’m very much enjoying mine.

Es por todos conocido que Sony, el fabricante de dispositivos electrónicos de origen japonés por excelencia, no ha tenido un muy buen año en lo que a ventas de terminales se refiere. Sí, ha tenido unos buenos resultados financieros correspondientes al último trimestre del año pasado, sin embargo ha sido por ventas de televisores, módulos de cámaras móviles, entre otras cosas.
La misma situación ocurre con las tablets de la firma. A pesar de tener un excelente recibimiento por parte de público de todo el mundo, parece no ser suficiente para continuar con la producción de modelos tanto actuales como futuros. Es por eso que un reciente rumor señala que podríamos verlas desaparecer totalmente del mercado.

El sitio Xperia Blog reporta que la despedida de la familia de tablets de Sony ha sido parcialmente anunciada por el gerente de una tienda Sony en su natal Japón. Como sucede con todos los rumores, la información ha corrido como la pólvora y ahora se hace eco de esto es varios sitios web japoneses, así como en tiendas.
El origen de la información, aparentemente, es material promocional que indica que las ventas de las tablets Sony terminarán en marzo, pero lo más interesante es que menciona que sólo se verán afectadas las variantes que cuentan con conectividad Wi-Fi, dejando a los modelos con conexión a las redes móviles en producción.
En teoría, esto tiene sentido si tenemos en cuenta que las tablets Xperia sólo generan alrededor del 5% de las ganancias de Sony, por lo cual los costos de I+D para el desarrollo, fabricación y mantenimiento de nuevos modelos nos son sostenibles para la empresa en este 2016, ni en los años que vienen.
Sony le ha dado al mundo modelos de tablets memorables, como la todo poderosa Xperia Tablet Z4 o la pequeña, pero muy capaz Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact (de la cual te contamos nuestras impresiones en su momento). Sin embargo, y muy a pesar de que seguramente los seguidores de la firma no estarán del todo contentos con esta decisión, es hora de decir adiós.
No debemos estar tristes con esta decisión, ya que aún queda mucho por conocer por el lado de los smartphones. De hecho, si atendemos a los rumores, este año podríamos conocer dos topes de gama de Sony potenciados por el Snapdragon 820, así que aún tenemos noticias de Sony para mucho rato.

Alto’s Adventure was one of those games that you couldn’t escape hearing about from iOS friends when it launched last year, and almost precisely one year later, it will finally be available on Android. We’ve known it was coming since September, but the developers announced via Twitter, that the game will finally hit Google Play next Thursday, February 11th.

For those that did somehow escape the Alto adulation, it is an endless runner-style game, but you are on a snowboard and trying to escape some apparently disgruntled llamas. You need to gather coins and power-ups while avoiding obstacles and doing flips and grinds as you speed your way down the mountain. There is a renewing set of challenges for you to attempt on each run and new characters with varying skills to unlock.
There’s one main difference between the Android version of the game and the iOS version, and that is the $2.99 upfront cost on iOS. The developer has opted to go free-to-play for Android as they feel it is a better match for the platform. The game will be monetized with opt-in video ads as well as an available in-app purchase that will double the value of the coins you collect in the game. The higher piracy rates on Android are one stated concern, but the developer also simply indicated that they felt this was where things are going generally for mobile gaming.
The gameplay remains identical between the iOS and Android versions of the game, so you aren’t going to be seeing banner ads flying across the screen or any monetization tactics that interfere with play. The developer also remains open to trying new things should this strategy not prove effective, including an in-app purchase that simply makes it a paid game with no opt-in ads.
If you enjoy endless runner-style games, I would highly recommend downloading Alto’s Adventure when it hits Google Play next week. I spent a fair amount of time with it last year, and while it isn’t a complex game, it is beautifully executed, and at the low price of free, you can definitely afford to give it a shot.

En octubre de 2015, ya avisábamos de la noticia de Google en la que afirmaban que los podcasts llegarían a su servicio de música, Google Play Music, aunque no especificaban demasiados detalles. Parece que esta actualización está empezando a ser liberada y algunos usuarios, como este de LogikBoard, ya han recibido esta nueva funcionalidad.
Con este movimiento, Google intentará luchar contra Apple por el dominio de los servicios de podcasting, el cual, hasta ahora, está dominado por la marca de Cupertino y su iTunes. Habrá que ver si esta clasificación cambia a partir de ahora.
Uno de los problemas que ha observado el usuario al que le ha llegado la actualización, es que las búsquedas aún no funcionan del todo bien, mostrando canciones en lugar de podcasts, además de mostrar éstos últimos en la parte más baja de los resultados de búsqueda.
Según este usuario, la implementación de esta nueva característica se integra perfectamente con las demás funciones y la apariencia de la aplicación. Al seleccionar la opción de podcasts en la barra lateral de la aplicación, se mostrará una pantalla muy similar a la lista de reproducción, y que incluye pestañas para podcasts destacados y suscritos.
En cuanto a las páginas individuales de podcasts, incluirán una serie de episodios asociados, y una vez nos suscribamos a una de estas páginas, se nos dará la posibilidad de descargar los 5 últimos episodios para poder escucharlos sin conexión.
En principio esto es todo lo que sabemos por ahora de los podcasts de Google Play Music, tendremos que esperar a que se libere la actualización de manera global para poder probarla, y comprobar si nos permitirá realizar otras funcionas como importar podcasts desde una fuente externa, además de ver si gracias a esta nueva implementación, la aplicación puede competir contra los clientes de podcasting más utilizados.

Google has pulled an ad-blocking plugin for Samsung’s Android browser just days after it made its debut. Ad Block Fast promised to deliver faster web browsing by removing unnecessary content, but Google says the app violates its Play Store policies. Ad Block Fast wasn’t developed by Samsung, but it was a launch partner for its new ad-blocking API.

Tras unos largos meses de espera y la interminable fase “developer edition”, Android ha llegado finalmente a la versión 6.0 denominada Marshmallow, la cual principalmente contiene un gran número de cambios para hacer que, junto a un notable incremento del rendimiento, nuestras baterías den más de sí gracias a la optimización que han implementado, comúnmente conocida como Doze.
Lamentablemente aún muchos, muchísimos dispositivos siguen a la espera de su OTA oficial para actualizar a Android 6.0 Marshmallow junto a la capa de personalización de cada fabricante. Obviamente con el tiempo los más recientes terminales les llegará su turno, pero para el resto con un tiempo mayor a dos años quedarán en el olvido, generando aún más fragmentación.
Con todo esto no queremos comunicar algo negativo si no todo lo contrario, ya que de forma oficial hemos conocido que la firma OUKITEL pretende llevar mucho más pronto de lo esperado otra gran actualización a la más reciente versión de Android en sus más recientes dispositivos. Dichos dispositivos son los llamados K10000, K6000 y K4000, todos ellos nombrados de dicha forma ya que detallan los miliamperios que contiene su batería.
Si todo marcha según lo previsto, OUKITEL debería liberar de forma paulatina aunque global la actualización aproximadamente a finales de este mismo mes de febrero, lo cual significa que disfrutaremos de un gran número de cambios, que esperamos que sean también a nivel estético y de aplicaciones propias.
Ciertamente no son las mejores alternativas que hay en su gama, pero sí que nos genera interés el llegar a tener en la mano uno de ellos y poder comprobar en el día a día hasta qué punto es efectiva la optimización de Android Marshmallow en una cuantiosa batería de 6.000 o incluso la interminable cantidad de 10.000 mAh.

Well, it would seem that when Bill Simmons let slip yesterday that podcasts would be hitting Google Play Music soon, he hadn’t jumped the gun by much. Some users are now seeing the podcast integration in Play Music, but as is so often the case with Google, this is happening server side and isn’t simply part of a Play Music update.
Sadly, I find myself in the familiar position of not being one of the chosen few in the early test group, so we need to rely on screenshots from others. The folks over at Android Police were tipped to a number of screenshots shared by Curtis Bond on his LogiKBoard blog. We’ll include a few screenshots here, but hit the source link to see them all.
As you can see, things are pretty bare bones at the moment. Basic search and subscription functionality are there and the artwork displays nicely. Adding a new podcast will ask you whether you would also like to download the five most recent episodes and receive notifications when new episodes arrive.
The options for playback are one of the major areas where the app falls down compared to competition like Pocket Casts. You can simply jump forward or back 30 seconds, but there is no ability to change playback speed, optimize volume or eliminate silences.
As I said yesterday, I’m happy to see Google get back into the podcasting space, as it is far too significant a category for them to not have a solution available by default on Android. I’m sure existing podcast app makers have to be somewhat concerned that this will cost them some purchases, but from the current state of things, it is going to be a while until Google’s solution is on par with any of the top contenders.
