Microsoft Eases Activation Restrictions With Windows 10 Anniversary Update

Ever since Microsoft introduced its anti-piracy activation scheme with Windows XP all those years ago, it has been a thorn in the side of hardware enthusiasts. To put it simply, Microsoft’s Windows Activation scheme uses a unique identifier, generated by the specific components in a computer system, along with a personalized serial number for the OS, to activate and tie a license to said system.  Performing minor upgrades usually didn’t cause any issues, but if you performed a major upgrade – like replacing a motherboard and processor, for example — the OS would assume it was installed on another system and de-activate automatically, and force a call into Microsoft’s activation support line.

Jacqueline Ros, 26, is the cofounder of Revolar, a Denver-based startup that produces an alert device designed to help people who feel they are in physical danger. Her motivation was personal: Her younger sister had been the victim of two assaults. The user presses the rectangular plastic Revolar, the size of a key chain, and it sends a signal to five designated loved ones who know to phone immediately.

Why Did Apple Fare Better Than The Broader Market Following The Brexit?

Apple , the world’s most valuable company, saw its stock decline by 2.8% in Friday’s trading following the U.K.’s vote to leave the European Union. This was largely related to overall market movements, as well as concerns about the company’s sales and profitability in Europe following the historic vote. That said, Apple fared comparably better than the NASDAQ and S&P 500 indices, which fell by about 4% and 3.6% respectively. Below, we outline some of the potential implications of the Brexit for Apple and explain why the impact on Apple stock was somewhat muted compared to the broader market.
