La NASA descubre 1,284 planetas nuevos fuera del Sistema Solar
La NASA descubrió 1,284 nuevos planetas fuera del Sistema Solar gracias al telescopio espacial Kepler, duplicando así el número de exoplanetas descubiertos hasta ahora, anunció este martes la agencia espacial estadounidense.
"Este anuncio más que duplica el número confirmado de planetas por Kepler", dijo Ellen Stofan, científica jefa de la sede de la NASA en Washington. "Esto nos da esperanzas de que en algún lugar allí afuera, alrededor de una estrella similar a nuestro sol, podamos eventualmente descubrir otra Tierra".
El observatorio espacial no tripulado Kepler, que fue lanzado en 2009, ha escaneado 150,000 estrellas en la búsqueda de señales de cuerpos orbitales, particularmente de aquellos capaces de albergar vida.

Funciona observando la disminución de la luz de las estrellas, conocida como tránsito, cada vez que un planeta en órbita pasa frente a ella.
"De los cerca de 5,000 planetas potenciales encontrados hasta ahora, más de 3,200 han sido verificados, y 2,325 de ellos fueron descubierto por Kepler", dijo la NASA en un comunicado.

Where Is Tesla’s 10-Q?
In my April 11 column I advocated shorting Apple, Twitter and Tesla ahead of earnings. Since my column posted Apple shares have fallen 14.2%, Twitter shares have fallen 11.9% and Tesla shares have fallen 15.5%. So, I am feeling pretty darn good about my 3-for-3. Apple and Twitter’s numbers have been dissected to death by the financial analyst community, but Tesla’s numbers are still in question nearly a week after the release of their quarterly shareholder letter last Wednesday.
