If you buy a Wii U, you’ve also got to buy that gamepad, and that alone is enough to turn most people off of the thing. But we will, for a second, look past that. The Wii U is still an excellent purchase if you want the thing that it does best.

Microsoft’s Xbox One, Sony’s PS4 and software manufacturers are working on the tacit assumption that streaming will, in time, come to dominate home entertainment in much the same way its already subsumed video. Barring of course, nuclear disaster, catastrophic global warming or a major pandemic. At that point dedicated gaming hardware will be the least of our troubles.
