Valve May Have Solved The Virtual Reality Content Problem

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Valve at their Steam VR Developer Showcase at Fremont Studios in Seattle. The event was an all-day experience where press and analysts could try out 12 different upcoming VR titles from various independent developers for the HTC Vive. The event was designed to offer an idea of what kind of content will be available for the HTC Vive in the coming year and to showcase some of the best content that can be played now. For me, the purpose was to get a feel for VR content and to see how ready developers are for the April 2016 launch timeframe that HTC and Valve have publicly announced.

Qualcomm introduces the Snapdragon 625, 435 and 425 processors

Qualcomm is having a big day of announcements. The company just announced its Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor for wearables, and now it’s shifting things back to smartphones with the introduction of three new processors. These include the Snapdragon 625, 435 and 425, and we’ll begin by looking at the higher-end Snapdragon 625 processor.

While not Qualcomm’s highest-end processor, the Snapdragon 625 will fit the bill nicely for those phones that hover between mid-range and high-end. The new Snapdragon 625 features 35% less power consumption than the Snapdragon 617, meaning that battery life will greatly improve. Other highlights include improved image quality and GPU performance.

Next up is the Snapdragon 435, which packs only one change over the existing Snapdragon 430 processor. This updated version packs in Qualcomm’s X8 LTE modem, offering the first Cat 7 LTE speeds within the 400 series of processors.

Lastly, there’s the Snapdragon 425. This processor is designed for lower-end mid-range phones, offering faster LTE speeds with the X6 LTE modem and improved battery life with a dedicated Hexagon digital signal processor. It also offers dual ISP support, allowing for camera resolutions up to 16-megapixels.

All of these new processors look to be solid updates to their predecessors. There’s nothing game-changing here, but that’s not always necessary, as it’s just as important for innovation to steadily evolve and improve, which is exactly what Qualcomm is doing with these updates.

It shouldn’t be long before we begin see these processors within new devices.

OpenShot 2.0 beta ya está disponible para todos

En el mundo del software libre hay aplicaciones que gozan de un enorme prestigio gracias a numerosas versiones de gran rendimiento y sobre todo al tiempo que esto viene aconteciendo, habiéndose convertido ya en clásicos en su respectivo nicho de mercado. Así como tenemos a GIMP entre las apps de diseño y a VLC entre los reproductores multimedia, podemos decir que OpenShot es un referente en el mundo de los editores de vídeo.

Ahora llega OpenShot 2.0 beta al público general, algo muy esperado desde que hace tiempo se lanzara una versión de prueba pero de alcance limitado, dirigida únicamente a los usuarios que han respaldado la campaña que este editor lanzó en crowdsourcing.

Así aparece en acción OpenShot 2.0.6, que es como en realidad ha sido numerada esta versión de prueba y que trae algunas novedades de peso como el backup y restauraciones automáticos de proyectos o el soporte para la importación y exportación de proyectos desde y hacia todas las plataformas soportadas (recordemos que se trata de una herramienta multiplataforma).

Otras novedades son el guardado automático de proyectos a intervalos o las mejoras en audio, que incluyen una nueva herramienta de previsualización. También se han suavizado las transiciones y las animaciones (por ejemplo, las que se realizan al aumentar o disminuir el zoom o las de rotación de elementos), y se ha mejorado la estabilidad general de la aplicación, además de modificar el comportamiento de OpenShot para que ahora sea capaz de advertirle al usuario que se necesita reiniciar la aplicación para que determinados cambios surtan efecto.

Para dar mayor empuje al lanzamiento de esta beta, los desarrolladores han puesto a disposición de los usuarios un PPA, algo que facilita su instalación en el caso de Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Ubuntu 15.04 y Ubuntu 15.10, las versiones soportadas.

Para agregar dicho PPA e instalar OpenShot 2.0 beta ejecutamos:

Samsung Pay launching in the UK and Spain “very soon”

Samsung Pay is expected to launch in the UK and Spain early this year. The head of Samsung Pay Europe revealed that the launch will be “very soon,” but said the exact date and other details will be revealed at the MWC.

The Samsung Galaxy S7, the start of Samsung’s MWC show, will be unveiled on February 21 and we’ll most likely see Pay piggyback on its media attention (the MWC is held in Spain, after all).

Also in the first wave of expansion for this year is China, with Australia, Singapore and Brazil following later. It’s not just the S7 that supports Samsung Pay, the new Galaxy A (2016) series does…

Qué esperamos ver en el Mobile World Congress 2016

Apenas quedan dos semanas para que comience una de las ferias de tecnología móvil más importantes del año en Barcelona. Como no, hablamos del Mobile World Congress 2016, en este evento, que tendrá lugar entre el 22 y el 25 de este mismo mes, los fabricantes presentarán sus apuestas para el año en curso, además de las innovaciones que incorporarán en sus próximos dispositivos.

En este artículo, te contamos cuáles son nuestras expectativas para el próximo MWC, y qué dispositivos relacionados con el sistema operativo Android esperamos que se presenten en esta feria que, por supuesto, podrás seguir día a día gracias a Andro4all.

HTC buscará un hueco en la gama de entrada

Aunque la marca taiwanesa confirmó que no presentaría su nuevo tope de gama, el M10 del que ya conocemos bastantes detalles, en el Mobile World Congress, sí que parece que HTC presentará un nuevo dispositivo de gama media-baja muy barato, destinado a competir con otros dispositivos del mismo rango de precios como el Moto G.

Teniendo en cuenta que su último buque insignia, el A9, fue lanzado al mercado hace no mucho tiempo, HTC intentará mejorar sus ventas atacando en la gama de entrada con este nuevo dispositivo, y tendremos que esperar hasta abril para conocer el nuevo HTC One M10.

LG, a intentar desbancar a Samsung

Después de un año algo malo para la marca surcoreana, LG intentará mejorar sus ventas gracias a un nuevo dispositivo rompedor, el LG G5. Quizá haya sido uno de los terminales del que más filtraciones ha habido en los últimos días, pues ya conocemos casi todos sus detalles, e incluso la propia LG ha confirmado algunas características de este nuevo terminal que se presentará el día 21.

De este nuevo dispositivo, que será el primero de los dos gama alta que LG tiene preparados para este año, esperamos un diseño muy diferente que utilice unos materiales más premium, además de unas especificaciones punteras y características innovadoras como nos tiene acostumbrados la marca, para poder así rivalizar con los dispositivos más top del año y mejorar las ventas de su antecesor, el G4.

Samsung lo tendrá difícil para mejorar lo presente

Decíamos del LG G5 que había sido uno de los terminales con más filtraciones, pero si hay uno que se lleva la palma, es el Samsung Galaxy S7 en todas sus variantes, pues parece que de este terminal ya no nos falta ningún detalle por conocer, incluso podemos descargar los fondos de pantalla que incluirá el dispositivo, también sabemos que será presentado el 21 de febrero.

Parece que el nuevo tope de gama de Samsung, seguirá la misma línea de diseño que su antecesor, el S6, además de lanzarse en diferentes versiones como ya pasó con el S6, entre las que encontraríamos un S7 sin pantalla curva, un S7 plus y un S7 edge plus. Veremos si la marca surcoreana consigue mejorar a su antecesor, que tan buen resultado ha dado durante el año 2015.

Parece que la marca japonesa sigue con su política de actualizar sus dispositivos tope de gama cada poco tiempo, pues todo indica que veremos el nuevo Sony Xperia Z6, incluidas sus variantes Compact, Plus y Ultra, el día 22 de febrero. Teniendo en cuenta la inclusión de una pantalla 4k en el último Z5 Premium, es más que probable que Sony nos sorprenda con alguna característica innovadora que no hayamos visto en ningún dispositivo hasta la fecha.

Pero la cosa no queda ahí, pues hay indicios de que Sony presentaría el Xperia C6, la evolución del Xperia C5 Ultra, un dispositivo de gama media-alta con un diseño bastante sorprendente y que sería uno de los primeros terminales en incorporar el nuevo procesador MediaTek Helio P10. También esperamos ver el nuevo Sony Smartwatch, pues este reloj inteligente fue presentado en el IFA 2014, y desde entonces, no ha sido renovado, por lo que una nueva versión debería estar al caer.

Estos son algunos de los dispositivos que esperamos se presenten en el Mobile World Congress de este año en base a los rumores y filtraciones que hemos conocido en las últimas semanas. Qualcomm Launches World’s Fastest X16 Modem And A Flurry Of Snapdragon SoCs

Fifteen months after a contentious meeting with the investment community that put the future of the company in question, Qualcomm resurrected its annual Analyst Conference to share the company’s financial results and outcome of the business evaluation. In addition, the company used the event as a major launch platform for a flurry of new mobile system-on-chip (SoC) and wireless modem products two weeks ahead of the industry’s largest mobile conference, Mobile World Congress.
