CitadelRPG, a 100% Vanilla MMORPG

Hi.

I am the modeler for the very talented team behind making CitadelRPG, a 100% vanilla MMORPG experience.

Why would you want to make something 100% vanilla instead of using plugins?

We get asked this constantly. The answer is simple to us: This game is so, so amazing and is almost more of a programming language then a game itself. If When we make this a reality, that just proves the astounding things you can do in this game if you work as a team and have creativity. When I make a model, or Redux makes a new concept with command blocks, or Axle builds something amazing, and our team keeps making more and more and we put it all together; it feels so good to look at it all in the end and think, Wow, we did this without the help of anything.

We like to push the limits and make them our own. We don't need the help of outside programs or plugins1.

We are constantly working every day and are progressing greatly, and would like some input from the community on what they would like in the game.

Things like what you would want to donate for, weapon ideas, mechanics and other things.

One thing we are currently implementing and discussing is FAMILIARS, or mystical creatures that give you abilities. From mysterious sprites to beasts of the Deep Fire, there are many kinds of familiars with a variety of abilities. These creatures may even change appearance based on your emotions at the time2.

We just don't know what we should have for the abilities yet, or what creatures they should be.
And to be clear: Not status effects where you get speed, or strength, or something of the like; Familiars will be obtainable by donations and will have something unique and interesting about each one of them, not just simple stat boosts.

For example, imagine a familiar that not only gives you a status effect, but also glows so you can see in the dark, gives you access to fire, among other things, like the familiar has it's own little skill set.

Speaking of donations, Redux is already working on a great site for Citadel, complete with a vanilla buy-craft that right now is completely functional. It's awesome.

But remember, familiars aren't the only thing we want to know more about. We need to know everything you guys could want.
Got a concept for an enemy/hostile creature/monster? Shoot.
Thought of a great idea for some type of weapon, ability, tool or spell or whatever you want? Please, talk about it.
We really want to see what we can pull from this community and form into an amazing game.

And just a heads up; This is not going to be one of those projects that people build up hype for and then the team just decides to stop working on it. We are dedicated.

Dear tech community, as someone who is inexperienced with redstone… via /r/Minecraft

Dear tech community, as someone who is inexperienced with redstone…

Listen, I understand that "quirks" such as quasi-connectivity can allow people to make awesome contraptions such as quarries, flying machines, and unique doors.

And I understand that "quirks" such as translocation are cool for making high speed transporters.

And I understand that the order of operation in redstone can allow for some super-charged piston doors…

But please understand… it makes redstone a nightmare for players like myself to learn, and these "quirks" are just discouraging. Often I see redstone bugs get reported, but Mojang does nothing about it because people from the tech community are fighting to keep these quirks in the game.

I understand a lot of redstone engineers like some bugs because they create cool features like Elytra launchers and sand duplicators, but personally, I think it is a priority that these bugs get fixed regardless because of struggling players like myself.

For example

I recently created a shulker box swapper. You press a button and it cycles between shulkers. I was very excited about it, and built it in my survival world – only to find that it didn't work for some reason. So then I rebuilt the exact same design in my original creative world. It turns out, because of ""quirky"" redstone behavior, my design only works in certain locations, facing a particular direction!

I spent hours working on that, and this bizarre redstone behavior has made it nothing but difficult for me to work with. And yet, the tech community continues to insist that these bugs should be kept in the game because it personally caters to their needs. Please consider us inexperienced players! We don't like the redstone bugs and get easily confused and frustrated with this inconsistent behavior.

In conclusion – tech community, I understand you fight to have these redstone quirks in the game because it allows you to create super cool and interesting stuff… but please think about those who aren't as good as you. These bugs are not beneficial to us.

This is how Minecraft changed my life. via /r/Minecraft

This is how Minecraft changed my life.

I'm sorry if this is a long post, but I have a lot to say. When I was around 10, which was in 2012 my parents were beginning to get divorced, during this time my brother and my dad were very abusive, mean, hurtful, and this affected me a lot. At this time in my life I was depressed, anxious, scared, worried, and I never knew what the next day would bring. At this time I had already had played Minecraft but hadn't bought it, so I decided to buy it. Because of my brothers issues we had family counseling come in every Wednesday night and I was only included occasionally because at the time it wasn't focused around myself but more my brother. During this time I went to our computer room and played Minecraft for hours, I felt that Minecraft was an escape, it was a world where I could live without fear of my brother and dad a world where I could be myself, and most of all a world that wasn't abusive, and frightening. I learned all the tips and tricks and made many beautiful builds. I still play Minecraft at least three times a week to this day. To me Minecraft was an escape from my life troubles it let me forget about my dad and brother. And now that my brother and dad moved out I feel much better, and that's how Minecraft changed my life. Thanks for reading this far!
