Minecraft 1.9: The Combat Update was released exactly one year ago
Official announcement: http://ift.tt/1oSI3ob
I think it's fair to say this has been the most controversial update in Minecraft's history, and caused the greatest rift in the community.
At Minecon in September 2016, /u/jeb_ said he was still considering reverting the combat changes based on community feedback. It seems clear the changes are here to stay. As an aside, I found it somewhat amusing (and telling) that even at Minecon when 1.11 was being announced, and 1.9 had already been out for 7 months, that the PvP tournaments hosted by Hypixel were still using 1.8.
Putting aside the discussion of the actual mechanics of the combat update, clearly most PvP focused servers are not updating and have no plans to do so anytime soon, or ever. I think this hurts Minecraft as a whole. What do you think?
