Unless you had an invite for the LG event in Barcelona today, you haven’t had the pleasure of handling the LG G5, not until April when the phone launches.
We know it’s not quite the same, but here are a few short moments of what it’s like to live with a G5.
First, the wide-angle lens, part of G5’s dual camera setup. The phone actually snaps photos with both, so you get one 135° and one 75° photo.
The camera has manual controls, which allows people with photography skills to dial in just the right settings.
Of course, an important class of photos is selfies. The G5 has only one selfie camera on its front (unlike the V10), but it’s an 8MP shooter.
With all those photos, the battery will start to run out. No worries though, you can just pop in another battery.
And storage won’t be an issue either, this problem is solved with plug and play…

HTC has finally unveiled the retail version of the Vive VR headset. The gadget has been co-developed with Valve and has received a last-minute addition, which should give it an edge over the competition.
HTC Vive Consumer Edition features the design of the Vive Pre – the unit we saw on CES, which comes with an updated headstrap, a camera, doubles the controller’s battery life, and has a refreshed branding. It also features a new Phone Services (that’s short for a built-in phone), which will allow you to stay in the virtual reality and not lose touch with the real one.
The rest of the key features of the Vive include an OLED 2160 x 1200px display, a front-facing camera to help you see the real world, two wireless controllers with haptic feedback, room scale movement sensors.
The HTC Vive supports SteamVR, of course, and will ship with two full-featured titles:
Job Simulator: The 2050 Archives, by Owlchemy Labs: In a firmly tongue-in-cheek world where robots have replaced all human jobs, step into the Job Simulator’ to learn what it was like ‘to job’.
Fantastic Contraption, by Northway Games in collaboration with Radial Games: Imagine walking around a grassy island floating in the sky, building a machine the size of a horse with your own hands, and then watching it roll out into the world.
And these are the recommended PC specs for the HTV Vive:
GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970, AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent or better
CPU: Intel® i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 equivalent or better
RAM: 4 GB or more
Video Output: HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2 or newer
USB Port: 1x USB 2.0 or better port
Operating System: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1 or later, Windows 10
HTC Vive Consumer Edition is priced at $799 and will go on pre-order on February 29. The first batch of VR headsets will be shipped in early…

The LG G5 brought its friends to Barcelona. They range from actual robots to a DSLR-like grip. Meeting so many new gadgets at once may be intimidating, so here are some videos and an infographic to handle the introductions.
First, a one minute video to dip your toes. It shows the two unique features of the G5 – the modules (camera grip and B&O DAC) and the dual camera on the back.
If you want to know more, here’s a four minute video. It demoes how easy it is to swap out modules, LG even made a dance out of it.
Also, LG G5’s friends include a robot that keeps your home safe and your cat entertained. There’s a 360° camera and a VR headset you can use to view the photos.
Here they all are, G5 and friends, in an infographic that gives you some more details about the sociable gadgets.
And if all this seems too much to handle, the LG Friend Manager app will help you pair with and control the…

Excitement has been high all throughout the day, as both LG and Huawei already heated things up with their respective MWC events. However, we can’t forget about Samsung. Unpacked events typically go down in the news not only for the unveiled devices but also for their sheer scale and grandeur.

We have provided a YouTube link for you to follow along, but we can’t be completely sure whether the full 360-degree functionality will be available through it. Just to be safe, you can check the source link for a complete experience. Also, the Unpacked 360 View app will let you enjoy the event on your Android or iOS mobile device. Huawei has just revealed its 2-in-1 device, the MateBook. It’s built around a metal frame and has a metal back, which make it feel premium.
In fact, the Huawei MateBook packs a 12″ LCD display of 2160×1440 pixel resolution, resulting in a pixel density of 216ppi. The company is proud of its slim bezel design and boasts the MateBook’s 84% screen-to-body ratio.
The MateBook measures 6.9mm thin and weighs 630 grams. Under the hood, Huawei offers only Intel’s 6th-gen Core M processors with no Core I5 or Core I7 chips in sight. The tablet runs Windows 10.
The Huawei MateBook

However, the Huawei MateBook starts at $699/799 and for the price you get a keyboard cover bundled with the slate. It is made of “environmentally friendly” leather (read: most probably not genuine) and the keys are backlit.
Huawei also offers a bunch of accessories including the MatePen and the MateDock. The MatePen is a stylus, which has a couple of hardware buttons as well as a laser pointer. It will retail for $59 in the US and 69 in Europe.

Meet the LG G5 – the first mainstream modular phone! There have been attempts in the past, the most recent being Google’s Project Ara, but none has found mainstream success.
Sleek body, functional addons
The G5 has a “fluid metal” body and beveled glass on the front; not even antenna slits spoil its perfect lines. There is a single seam, which separates the bottom part.
That’s the modular component – it can be removed to access the battery and card slots, and one of several add-ons can be inserted (this requires a reboot though).
The first add-on is a camera grip, the LG Cam Plus. It adds 1,100mAh battery and hardware controls – a hardware shutter key, a video button, zoom dial. Then there’s a Bang & Olufsen DAC for even better audio quality. LG will open the standard for third-party manufacturers to create even more add-ons.
LG Cam Plus • Bang & Olufsen DAC
One of a kind screen, unique dual camera
Back to the LG G5, it has a 5.3″ LCD with an always-on mode. It features a dedicated memory and a power-sipping secondary chip so that the main chipset can go to sleep while the screen remains on 24/7. The bespoke chip sips just 0.8% of battery per hour.
The dual selfie camera idea from the V10 has migrated to the G5 too, but as a main camera. One camera has 75° Field of View (FoV) and 16MP sensor, the second camera is much wider, 135° and 8MP sensor. Images from both cameras can be merged with various effects and a real-time preview.
Finally, the “regular” specs. The LG G5 is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset wtih 4GB of RAM. It has 32GB storage on board and a microSD slot. It’s 7.5mm-8mm thick and packs a small-ish 2,800mAh battery. Below the dual-camera is the fingerprint sensor.
The LG G5 will launch in early April in the initial group of…

LG’s last accessory at this MWC looks quite interesting. It’s the LG Rolling Bot – a home monitoring system. The spherical fella has an integrated camera and can livestream everything that’s happening in your home.
You can move it around your house and use it a remote control as well. It has an infra-red emitter, so you can fire up and control different appliances in your home – the TV, sound systems, air conditioner, among other things.
Finally, this cute robot can also take care of your pet. You can use it to watch and play with your dog or cat, you can even speak to them thanks to the integrated loudspeaker.
The Rolling Bot
The LG Rolling bot features a camera, a microphone, a speaker, there are some LEDs, too. It can be recharged via a regular USB charger, and we can surely put it to some work while we are away from home.
The rolling bot will hit the shelves around the same time the G5 goes on sale. Its retail price is yet to be announced. The compatibility of the Rolling Bot is yet to be detailed as well, but we hope it won’t be limited to just LG smart…

The LG G5 announcement gave us more than the G5. The company introduced a new series of smart accessories including additional G5-compatible modules like the LG Cam Plus and LG Hi-Fi Plus.
In addition to those, you can treat yourself with some of the standalone gadgets. The first one to grab our attention was the LG 360 VR – an HMD (head-mounted display) headset. It requires connection to an external device to work (a smartphone or a slate) and looks like a very compact thing to wear on your head.
LG 360 VR
The LG 360 VR has two displays, 1.88″ 960x720px each, and is compatible with Google Cardboard and YouTube 360 content.
The LG 360 VR will become available this spring, but the pricing is yet to be…
