First Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge camera samples

We got our hands on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge and snuck the photos out of its galleries. It’s clear they were taken by pros in well-controlled lightning, but they are impressive all the same.

The super bright f/1.7 aperture helped the camera keep ISO quite low, even in the dark and the slow shutter speed is enabled by the OIS.

In the following samples the highest ISO we see is 250 and shutter speed stays faster than 1/10s.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge now officially official

The long wait is finally over, which also means the end of the endless sea of rumors. We finally have the full story. The Samsung Gear S7 is every bit as impressive as expected. It comes with a 5.1-inch, 2560 X 1440 pixel Super AMOLED display, with a keenly sharp 577 ppi. Its body measures exactly 142.4 x 69.6 x 7.9mm and weighs in at 152g. The body itself is even curvier than before with a Note5-like slope on the back and a 2.5D effect on all four sides on the front.

The Galaxy S7 edge, as expected, adds another dimension to the mix with its impressive 5.5-inch display, curved on both sides and now a bit bigger than its predecessor. The edged variant is surprising even thinner with a body measuring 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7mm and just a tad heavier – 157g.

As for the guts of the handsets, as expected, both will come powered by either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC or Samsung’s own powerhouse – the Exynos 8890. Memory is still set at 4GB, which is perfectly adequate and fast with LPDDR4 technology. Storage options include 32GB of 64GB, plus an extra microSD card for up to 200GB extra.

The camera setup consists of 12MP sensor, but don’t let that number fool you. The hardware is totally innovative thanks to a f/1.7 aperture and a new Dual Pixel technology, which allows for some clever ambiguity of its large sensor pixels and makes for amazing low-light performance and blazing fast autofocus speed. Of course, smart OIS is also on board. Last, but not least, the new Motion Panorama feature makes for amazing wide-angle shots.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge

Both the S7 and S7 edge have fairly sizable batteries, but the latter definitely shines in this department, with 3,000 mAh and 3,600 mAh, respectively. The pack can also be recharged blazing fast with wired and Wireless Fast Charging (WPC and PMA standards). Other hardware features include Dual-band Wi-Fi ac, MIMO, Bluetooth v.4.2, ANT+ and support for both NFC and MST and payment systems that rely on them. Interestingly enough, Samsung has stuck with USB 2.0 and the familiar connector.

A truly amazing new feature of both models is the IP68 rating, which means that the S7 duo is properly waterproof.

On the software side of things, TouchWiz is now running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with all the features that come with it. Edge fans now have a lot more to get excited about thanks to an improved Edge Apps platform – the physical area is a lot wider offering more info at a glance. Gamers can also rejoice thanks to a newly adopted support for Vulkan, which promises to usher in the next era of mobile graphics.

HTC Desire 825, 630 and 530 unveiled, each unit has uniquely speckled back

HTC remembered its days as a fashion-forward, music-oriented brand with the new Desire trio. The phones feature polycarbonate exteriors, which have been treated with a micro-splash process that creates a unique pattern of paint specs for each phone.

We already spent some time with all new HTC phones (the Vive too!), you can find our first-hand impressions here.

HTC Desire 825

The leader of the pack, the HTC Desire 825 comes in Stratus White, sprayed with a combo of pink and gray, and in Graphite Grey Remix, sprayed with gold color paint.

HTC Desire 825

You can customize it further with snap-on cases that received the same micro-splash paint effect.

The speckled back covers

The Desire 825 will come packaged with a Hi-Res headset. The phone itself is Hi-Res Audio certified and features BoomSound with Dolby Audio (it’s almost like the golden years when Beats headphones came in the box).

And stereo speakers are back after HTC flirted with going back to a single-speaker setup with the One A9.

Anyway, the phone itself features a roomy 5.5″ Super LCD with a disappointingly low 720p resolution. It’s powered by an old 32-bit Snapdragon 400 chipset (quad-core CPU at 1.4GHz). Memory is fairly basic too, 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage, at least you get a microSD slot. On the upside, the phone comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

HTC says you’ll be taking 25,000 selfies in your lifetime, so it’s important to have a good camera to do it. The 5MP selfie cam on the Desire 825 can pretty you up in real time, including putting on virtual makeup.

The speckled back of the Desire 825

The camera on the back is a 13MP shooter, both it and the selfie camera can record 1080p video.

The phone will come in single and dual-SIM flavors (depending on region) and has LTE connectivity. The battery is quite small at 2,700mAh.

HTC Desire 630

The HTC Desire 630 is essentially the same phone, except smaller. It has a 5″ 720p screen and an even smaller 2,200mAh battery.

The phone comes with the same speckled exterior and brings the Hi-Res audio setup, including the headphones and stereo speakers. It has the same camera too, 13MP on the back, 5MP on the front.

HTC Desire 630

That’s the good news, the bad news is the same S400 chipset (2GB RAM, 16GB storage) and single-band Wi-Fi (b/g/n). The HTC Desire 630 will be dual-SIM only and offers Cat. 4 LTE.

HTC Desire 530

The HTC Desire 530 is a lower-end version of the 630. It has the same 5″ 720p screen, but the chipset drops to Snapdragon 210 with 1.5GB of RAM. Storage stays at 16GB with a microSD slot.

Note that you can buy the phones without the speckles, here’s what that looks like:

Speckles, no speckles

HTC’s focus on selfies remains strong with a 5MP front camera, but the back camera is reduced to 8MP. Video resolution is not mentioned (the chipset is technically capable of 1080p).

The HTC Desire 530 has the uniquely-painted exterior, but the only audio goodie is the pair of speakers on the front (no fancy headphones, no Hi-Res audio certification).

The HTC Desire 825, 630 and 530 will be hit stores in March for money. How much money remains to be…

More leaked ptohos of HP’s Windows 10 Elite x3

We first head of the HP Elite x3 about a week ago and what was originally considered a sketchy device, has been leaking all over the place since. At this point, we are actually pretty confident that the Windows 10 powered phone will be released sooner or later, perhaps even at MWC 2016.

We already have a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of hardware from a previous leak, so today’s fresh batch is more or less a confirmation of said info, along with a look at the device from a few extra angles.

HP Elite x3

Just to reiterate, the Elite x3 is shaping up as a prime competitor to the Lumia 950 XL. It has a 5.96-inch QHD touchscreen, a 16 MP rear camera, an 8 MP selfie cam, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset powering it, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a USB Type-C port with support for USB 3.0, Qi wireless charging, a fingerprint scanner (which might be embedded in that ‘chin’ underneath the display), an iris sensor, a special docking connection, IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, as well as MIL-STD-810G rating for withstanding drops from 1 meter or less. Windows 10 Continuum will, of course, be a central feature of the 7.8 mm thin device, as well.

ZTE announces Spro Plus smart projector

ZTE Spro Plus is the successor of the portable smart projector Spro 2. The new gadget features a 8.4″ 2K (2560x1600px) AMOLED display and its key spec is the WXGA projector (that’s 1366×768 px) with 500lm brightness and auto-focus, which supports vertical and horizontal keystone correction.

The projector uses laser-phosphor projections instead or regular LED, which helps it maintain excellent brightness, accurate focus, and clarity no matter the surface. It can out 80″ picture from 2.4m distance.

All the technicalities aside, this makes the Spro Plus projection perfectly visible on any surface, any direction, and any time of the day.

The projector will be available in two flavors, both running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and powered by a 12,100 mAh battery. The Wi-Fi model is running on Snapdragon 801 chipset with a quad-core Krait 400 processor and Adreno 330 GPU, while the LTE-enabled projector will be utilizing a Snapdragon 625 chip a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor and Adreno 506 GPU.

Both the Wi-Fi and LTE models of the Spro Plus feature 3GB RAM and either 32 or 128 GB internal storage, expandable via a microSD slot up to 2TB.

You can attach an external USB camera to the Spro Plus and make video-conference, too. If a camera is not available, you can still make voice conference calls.

Finally, the Spro Plus packs a JBL sound system with stereo 4W HARMAN speakers with Dolby technology and high-performance HARMAN microphones.

The Spro Plus projector launches worldwide in mid-2016. Its pricing is yet to be detailed, but ZTE expects it to sell big, as the Spro and Spro 2 have already sold more than 500,000…
