Samsung Galaxy Note5 goes on sale in Taiwan

The Samsung Galaxy Note5, which was unveiled a couple of days ago along with the Galaxy S6 edge+, is now available for purchase in Taiwan, making it the first country where the device has been released.

According to reports, the sole reason for this is the fact that the Note series has been a roaring success in the country. As for the price, the 32GB variant is priced at around $740, while the 64 GB model will set you back around $820, although the latter won’t be available until the end of the ongoing month.

It’s worth mentioning that the handset is set to go on sale in the US late next week on August 21. All major carriers there have already announced the pricing information for it. However, if you are located in Europe, you’ll have wait longer as the device won’t be landing there any-time soon, at-least not this year.

Moto 360 successor possibly leaked in a tweet by Motorola

Motorola might have accidentally leaked the successor of the Moto 360 smartwatch on Twitter. A render of a mysterious wearable device appeared in one of the manufacturer’s official tweets earlier today.

The unannounced smartwatch features a round body, but different button placement than the original Moto 360. While we were preparing this post, Motorola removed the tweet, thus further suggesting that we saw something we weren’t originally supposed to.

Curiously, the leaked smartwatch appears to feature a screen that’s not fully circular – just like the first-generation Moto 360. We certainly hope that this will not be the case when the new Moto 360 debuts, as both LG and Samsung have competitors with fully circular displays already available or on the way….

Huawei Mate 7S might have been benchmarked, revealing specs

As we approach the September 2 unveiling date for Huawei’s next phablet, we’re starting to see more and more leaks and rumors about it. This device will clearly have “S” in its name, as per Huawei’s teasers, but it’s still up for debate whether it will be called Mate 7S or just Mate S.

Regardless of all that, the new Mate has seemingly been put through the paces of the AnTuTu benchmark recently. This has thankfully revealed a pretty complete list of its specs, through the benchmark’s information screen (which you can see in the image to the left).

So, the next Huawei Mate is apparently going to come with a 5.7-inch 1080p touchscreen, a 20 MP rear camera, an 8 MP front-facing snapper, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in storage. At the helm we see Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 935 chipset, featuring an octa-core CPU clocked at up to 2.1 GHz and the Mali-T628MP4 GPU. At the time it was tested, the smartphone ran Android 5.0 Lollipop.

These specs mostly fit with what we’ve been hearing so far, but there are a few surprises. The main camera has been rumored to be a 13 MP unit some times, and the display resolution most talked about was QHD.

As for how the phone actually did in the AnTuTu benchmark, the overall score it achieved was 46,776, which isn’t bad but isn’t record-breaking either. However, in the GPU compartment things aren’t looking good at all, with the 3D performance score being just 11,946.

New bands for large wrists now available for the Apple Watch

Apple has started selling a few new bands for its first smartwatch today. They mostly cater to people with large wrists.

There’s a new L/XL size Sports Band to be had, in either black or white. This fits wrists that are 195 to 245mm in size. The new Link Bracelet Kit adds an extra 40mm of length to the 42mm metal bands, again striving to fit ever larger wrists, up to 245mm.

The previous largest Sports Band size was M/L, which only went from 160 to 210mm. The new Link Bracelet Kit and the L/XL Sports Band are each priced at $49, with shipping in 5-7 business days.

Additionally, Apple has made the standalone Modern Buckle bands for 38mm stainless steel Watches available for $249. These will ship in late August, possibly around the 24th. They have been announced alongside the Apple Watch itself, but have so far not been up for grabs.

Oxygen OS for OnePlus One gets Stagefright-patching update

Today OnePlus has made available an update for Oxygen OS for its first smartphone, the One. While the OnePlus 2 has launched running Oxygen OS outside of China, the situation’s been more complicated for its predecessor.

International One units shipped with Cyanogen OS on board, but since OnePlus and Cyanogen, Inc. aren’t getting along anymore the Chinese startup has outed a version of its own OS, Oxygen, for the One. This was a few months ago, and it hasn’t even been updated to Android 5.1 yet.

Sadly, today’s new release isn’t based on the latest version of Android either. It’s still Android 5.0 Lollipop, but at least the much-publicized Stagefright vulnerability has been patched.

This, in fact, seems to be the whole reason why OnePlus has pushed Oxygen OS 1.0.2 to the One. So if you were expecting new features or the latest iteration of Lollipop, you’re out of luck for…

LG’s next smartwatch is rumored to sport a high resolution screen

LG is apparently already working on its next smartwatch running Android Wear, according to a new rumor on the matter.

What this rumor goes on to say is that LG’s next wearable might come with the highest resolution screen ever seen on an Android Wear device.

This should be a 480×480 panel, though it’s still unclear if it will be round or square. If it is round, then it will be quite a lot crisper than the one in the LG Watch Urbane, which comes with 320×320 resolution.

In fact, if we consider the same 1.3-inch size, the new watch should have a pixel density of about 340-400 ppi, whereas the Watch Urbane only boasts 240 ppi.

The next LG smartwatch is currently codenamed Nemo, and that’s the only other thing that has been revealed this time…

Brikk starts pre-orders for $199,995 diamond-clad iPhone 6s

No, Apple still hasn’t introduced this year’s new iPhones, which are widely expected to be called iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. That, however, hasn’t stopped one company that’s into adding luxury to Apple’s devices from starting pre-orders for modified versions of these handsets.

As always in these cases, what’s on the inside will stay the same. The outside, however, is a different thing entirely.

Brikk is offering you blinged-up iPhone 6s units starting at $7,995, and going all the way up to a mind-blowing $199,995. The cheapest model is the iPhone 6s Lux, made with two layers of pure 24k yellow gold, 18k pink gold, or 950 platinum.

At the other end of the scale sits the iPhone 6s Plus Diamond Omni, which is coated with the same options as the cheapest option, but adds in diamonds. Lots of diamonds, making for a total of 53 carats.

Brikk says it will start shipping the pre-ordered devices around 4 to 6 weeks after Apple is going to release the standard, non-gold plated iPhone 6s duo. You can pre-order either by paying in full or by shelling out a non-refundable deposit that goes from $2,500 to $25,000 depending on which product you choose.

Choosing between the Galaxy Note5 and S6 edge+ is tough, Chrissy Teigen will tell you

No matter how hard Samsung tries to persuade you that the Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ are two very different devices with distinct target audiences, there’s no escaping the fact that both of them are similarly sized 5.7-inch premium phablets with identical internals.

It’s no wonder then that picking one of the two is a tough call, which mostly hangs on whether you’d ever think of using the S Pen. It would appear, though, that there’s more to consider, as Chrissy Teigen will quickly have you convinced in the video below.

Having a model talk about smartphones certainly brings a fresh perspective, and surprised as you may be, she does appreciate the S Pen. Ultimately, though, she goes for the Galaxy S6 edge+, and we suspect Pippa (the French bulldog) might have had a say on the matter.

But why does John Legend have two phones, after…

Samsung announces G9198 flip smartphone with Snapdragon 808

The world may be busy digging into details with the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note5, but here is something we’ve almost missed. Samsung China announced a flagship flip smartphone with Snapdragon 808 chip and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

Samsung G9198 is called 领世旗舰Ⅲ, but we’ll just stick to G9198. The dual-screen flip phone comes with with two 3.9″ 768p Super AMOLED touch displays and is powered by the Snapdragon 808 chip with a hexa-core processor, 2GB RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

The G9198 features a 16MP f/1.9 main camera with a LED flash, a 5MP f/1.9 front snapper, LTE connectivity, a heart-rate sensor, dual-SIM option, and a 2,020 mAh battery. The two cameras seems to be the same as on the Galaxy S6, S6 edge and Note5.

The G9198 model number was previously rumored as the Galaxy S6 mini, so we ca now discard the S6 mini purported specs. The Snapdragon 808 surely sounded as a good option for the mini fella, but we’ll have to wait for the official announcement. Maybe we’ll see it at IFA next month, who know.

Samsung G9198 领世旗舰Ⅲ is a Chinese exclusive and we most probably won’t see it in other markets, as it usually happens with these niche devices.

Evernote web client redesign now out of beta, available to everyone

We talked about the new Evernote web design back in October. The site was still in beta back then but the company has now made the design final and it is being made available to everyone.

Just to recap, the new Evernote design focuses on simplicity, with a super clean look that lets you focus on your writing. The buttons on the side hide away when you start typing and only the essential controls remain on screen.
