Huawei P9max spotted in AnTuTu: 6.2” QHD+ screen, Kirin 950 chipset

Rumors of Huawei’s P9 series are slowly building up speed. The Huawei P9max, codenamed P950S, passed through AnTuTu, revealing some interesting specs. Its predecessor, the Huawei P8max, had a massive 6.8″ 1080p screen, but the P9max will be different.

The benchmark detected 1,600 x 2,560px resolution. That’s much sharper and points to a 16:10 screen. It will be a smaller screen though, its diagonal was an estimated 6.2″. Note that benchmark estimations are not very accurate. Still, it can’t be 0.6″, can it?

AnTuTu reports on the Huawei P9max (P950S)

Anyway, the Huawei P9max will be powered by the new Kirin 950 chipset, paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The benchmark scores were lower than other K950 scores so this must be an early version of the software. The software was based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The P9 family may sport a dual-camera setup on its back, but there’s relatively little info about it.

Turns out the HTC One M9 pattern lock is NOT easy to bypass

As Abraham Lincoln famously said, “don’t trust everything you read on the Internet.” Yesterday I reported on an apparent bug that allowed people to bypass pattern lock screen on the HTC One M9 just by toggling Wi-Fi. Well, it turns out that just doesn’t work.

As many of you reported, the M9 does not bypass the lockscreen when Wi-Fi state changes. HTC also got in touch with us and says its engineering team determined that the ROM used in the video is not stock. They also tried replicating the issue, but couldn’t find anything wrong.

So, sorry about the scare, the pattern lock will keep your HTC One M9…

ZUK Z2 coming next year, Android 6.0 for the Z1 beta soon

The ZUK Z1 launched this year and only reached international markets last month, so it should come as no surprise we won’t see its successor this year. The ZUK Z2 will be introduced in 2016, confirmed the company’s CEO, but didn’t pin down the exact date.

Forums are buzzing with rumors that the Z2 will be powered by Snapdragon 820 (the chipset is due for announcement today), though we find it unlikely given that ZUK’s debut model used Snapdragon 801 from February 2014 instead of a 2015 chipset.

Speaking of the ZUK Z1, the CEO had some good news for its owners. The new ZUI version will be based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Work is going steady and a closed beta is expected by the end of December. The final version is expected in March…

This new Samsung Gear S2 ad might leave you craving for some dial turning goodness

Samsung has always had a way of approaching things a little differently, relying heavily on its own vision and understandings, while still managing to stay part of the flow in the tech world. The Gear S2 watch is the perfect embodiment of this duality – both familiar and different, conforming and innovating at the same time.

The wearable has a lot going for it and even though it’s appeal is far from universal, nor is it the high-point of the developing smartwatch niche, it still stands out from the crowd and draws attention. Samsung knows this all too well and definitely aims to capitalize on it, as evident by the Korean giant’s latest ad.

Aptly titled “Dial In”, the clip showcases just a few of the major functions the Gear S2 has to offer, not forgetting to emphasize on its custom software approach (Tizen to be exact) and clever rotating dial control. The 30 second video is superbly made, but that hardly comes as a surprise. It also offers a short glimpse of an incoming call on the 3G Gear S2 model, which we are yet to see in action.

And if the clip spiked your curiosity, be sure to check out our in-depth review of Samsung’s latest…

Google open sources TensorFlow, its machine learning system

Google uses machine learning system in many of its apps, from speech recognition, to Smart Reply in Inbox app, or search in Google Photos. Google calls this system TensorFlow, and the company has announced that it is open sourcing it.

Google claims TensorFlow is a highly scalable machine learning system, that can run on a single smartphone or across thousands of computers in data centers. Other than machine learning tasks, it can be used for other operations that require processing a lot of complex data, such as protein folding or astronomy data.

With TensorFlow now being open source, researchers, engineers, or hobbyists can now have access to one of the best machine learning systems out there for their own projects, and can contribute back to the community so that the system gets even better, which is what Google’s primary objective is as it believes TensorFlow can get a lot better with help from outside of…

Belgian court gives Facebook two-day ultimatum to stop tracking those who aren’t logged in

Facebook has been given a 2 day ultimatum by a Belgian court to cease its practice of tracking users who aren’t logged into the social networking website, failing which the company will have to pay of fine of €250,000 per day.

This comes just a few months after a report compiled by the Belgian Privacy Commission said that the company uses cookies to track the Web movements of all its European visitors, including even those who do not have a Facebook account. It also said that the official opt-out mechanism used by the social networking service is ineffective in EU.

For its part, Facebook has claimed that the cookie in question is actually used by the company for user security. “We’ve used the datr cookie for more than five years to keep Facebook secure for 1.5 billion people around the world. We will appeal this decision and are working to minimize any disruption to people’s access to Facebook in Belgium,” a company spokesperson…

AT&T Lumia 950 to reportedly go on sale on November 20

While we already know that the Microsoft Lumia 950 will be an AT&T exclusive in the US, there has been no information on specifically when the device would be available for purchase in the country. However, that was until now, as it is now being reported that the handset will go on sale in the US on November 20.

Reports attribute the delay in launch mainly to the enabling of Windows Hello’s iris scanner – if you aren’t already aware, the Windows Hello feature uses the front-facing camera to recognize you and unlock the device. There’s, however, no official confirmation on whether or not the feature will be available at launch.

It is also being said that the pre-orders for the device – which is expected to carry a price tag of around $550 – would go live as soon as this Thursday (November 12). For those who are looking forward to purchase a Lumia 950 XL instead, it’s worth reminding that in the US, the device (unlocked) will only be available at Microsoft…
