vivo X6 will come in Silver, Gold and Rose Gold

If you’ve been following the vivo X6 saga, you’ll know it will have 4GB of RAM, a fingerprint sensor and mobile payments, plus it showed up ahead of schedule in a PR shot. The latest installment brings us a look at the colors.

The all-metal X6 chassis will come in Silver, Rose Gold (looks pink-ish to us) and Gold. We’re still no closer to the official announcement. Early posts on Weibo made it sound like the vivo X6 will be unveiled on November 9, but that obviously didn’t happen.

The rumor mill has a lot to say about the upcoming flagship though – a 6″ QHD screen with Force Touch in a 4mm thick frame, a 10-core MediaTek Helio X20 chipset, 21MP camera and a 4,000mAh battery. There’s even talk of 1GB of dedicated video RAM. None of those have been officially confirmed yet.

Cyanogen OS is a build of CyanogenMod that comes pre-installed on certain devices, such as the OnePlus One, ZUK Z1, YU Yureka and others. This build of the ROM has always had a handful of extra apps that weren’t available for those who downloaded the CyanogenMod ROM on their devices.

But not for long. Cyanogen is now releasing a suite of apps, called Cyanogen Apps Package or C-Apps, to users of CyanogenMod. This includes apps like the AudioFX sound customizer, Theme Chooser, Dialer app with integrated Truecaller, Boxer email client, enhanced Gallery app, and support for Cyanogen account, which has features like find my phone, and remote lock/wipe.

CyanogenMod users will now be able to download this suite, which will bring their build on par with the Cyanogen OS, as long as they are running the latest 12.1…

Smartwatch-targeted Cortex-A35 is faster, more power-efficient than Cortex-A7

Everyone expects the Cortex-A72 chipsets to hit the market and break mobile performance barriers, but ARM has designed a core to serve the other side of the market – the low-power Cortex-A35.

Let’s be clear – low-power here is about energy efficiency, at 1GHZ the A35 will draw just 90mW per core. It will be fast though, promising on average of 20% performance increase over the Cortex-A7 in 32-bit workloads.

The Cortex-A35 is an ARMv8-A core though, meaning it supports 64-bit software and has built-in encryption support.

Compared to the current 64-bit, low-power core of choice, the Cortex-A53, the new core will use 33% less power and will be cheaper since it occupies 25% less silicon. There’s no word on the performance difference though.

ARM expects its partners to start shipping Cortex-A35 chipsets in late 2016 so it will be a while. Even in that late timeframe the cores will be built on the aging 28nm process, which will keep cost down but the power savings could have been much bigger.

MediaTek executive vice president and co-COO Jeffrey Ju was quoted “The ARM Cortex-A35 processor is welcomed by MediaTek for its scalability of the ARMv8-A architecture, which will enable us to continue to provide efficient and highly integrated 64-bit SoCs to global markets.”

While multi-tiered chipsets will certainly benefit from the A35 (big.MEDIUM.LITTLE?), smartwatches will be quick to adopt the new core. Currently they use the old Cortex-A7 in Snapdragon 400 and MT2601.

Google Chrome drops support for older versions of Windows and OS X

Google has announced that it is dropping support for older versions of Windows and OS X on the desktop version of Chrome.

Starting April 2016, Chrome will no longer be updated on Windows XP, and Windows Vista, as well as OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8. Google says these platforms are no longer being officially supported by Microsoft and Apple, and it makes sense for users to update to newer versions of these operating systems to receive the latest security updates.

To be clear, Chrome will still work on all of these platform, but won’t be getting any further updates. If it’s not bad enough to have an out of date operating system, it’s worse to have an outdated browser that does not have the latest security…

Apple iPad Pro now available for purchase, ships within a day

Owning up to its promise, Apple has started accepting orders for the iPad Pro in the US. The 12.9-inch tablet is now available for purchase both online through the company’s website, as well as in Apple stores.

Obviously the more eager among you will choose in-store pickup, meaning you can go ahead and grab one today, provided your local Apple store has it. Online orders will be shipped within a day and can be sent with next-day delivery (at an extra cost) so it will arrive at your doorstep on Friday. Free delivery means a long wait until Monday.

You won’t be able to have a fully equipped iPad Pro from day one, however, as the Pencil and Smart Keyboard won’t ship for another week or two. The earliest you’ll be able to get yours is November 19, but that may stretch as long as November 30.

Prices are as initially announced – the iPad Pro itself starts at $799 for a 32GB Wi-Fi only model, upping the storage to 128GB results in a $949 price tag, while adding cellular connectivity means $1079. The Pencil is a hefty $99, while the Smart Keyboard is an even more eye-watering $169.

Unfortunately for users on the other side of the pond, the iPad Pro cannot be ordered just yet. Throughout Europe Apple still lists the tablet as “Available November” with no further…

Amazon Echo to be available in retail stores across the US

Amazon has announced that it will be selling the Amazon Echo across retail outlets in the US. The Echo will be available in The Home Depot, Staples, Sears, Brookstone, RadioShack, Fred Meyer, P.C. Richard & Son, and more in time for the holiday season.

The Echo is a voice operated search box, which gives you search results simply by asking the question, plays music from a variety of services, tell you the news, weather, traffic information, search on Yelp, access your Google Calendar, and a lot more. It’s like having Siri in an always on Bluetooth speaker that you can keep around your house.

It’s strange to see an Amazon product, from the company with the largest online store in the world, being sold offline. Then again, considering the lukewarm response to the product, it makes sense to branch out to other outlets, and for a niche product like Echo, it would be better if people saw and experience it first hand if they were to buy…

Android 5.1.1 OTA is seeding for the Samsung Galaxy E7

If you bought the Galaxy E7 then, like many others, you probably felt a little let down being stuck on Android 4.4 KitKat, while the almost identical E5 gets to enjoy Lollipop. Well, the wait seems to finally be over, or at least in India, where users are already reporting that their E7 handsets are getting an Android 5.1.1 OTA.

The update carries a E700HXXU1BOJ7 PDA and is intended for the SM-E700H model. To be fair, this is not exactly the first time we spot Lollipop on the phone. The Galaxy E7 (SM-E700F) already got Android 5.1 in Sri Lanka earlier this month. However, the broader rollout is a definite sign of relief, especially after the earlier reports that the E7 won’t be getting the update at…

Blackberry Priv apps can now be sideloaded on other Android phones

If you are curious about the new Android-powered Blackberry experience, you can sideload some of the exclusive apps found on the Blackberry Priv.

You should definitely side-loading the keyboard APK since it is the easiest one to install and doesn’t require root. It works well on the Nexus 6P we tried, though users have reported that it may have issues working on Samsung TouchWiz devices.

Blackberry Services might be required for the launcher, calendar, and Blackberry Hub apps to work properly. It’s also worth noting that the Blackberry Hub requires root to install the APK in the /system/ partition.

T-Mobile UnCarrier X announced – 24 streaming services that won’t eat your data

T-Mobile does it again. This afternoon, T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere announced that 24 video streaming services will no longer count against your data allotment.

During the Q&A at the event, Legere was asked what this meant for the integrity of Net Neutrality, to which Legere responded that T-Mobile abides by and follows the principles of Net Neutrality and that T-Mobile was not receiving money from these video companies nor sponsorships.

Legere said the reason T-Mobile did this is because “this is what customers want.”.

The resolution for these streaming services will be limited to 480p for network optimization purposes. If the customer does not want to sacrifice the high quality of the content, he/she is welcome to turn the feature off and stream away in high quality.

Legere also mentioned that this feature will not be enabled by default, rather, the customer is required to turn this feature on before binging away.

The list of streaming services available at launch was released on T-Mobile’s website and include the following:

Netflix
HBO NOW
HBO GO
Hulu
Sling TV
Sling Box
ESPN
Showtime
Starz
Movieplex
Encore
T-Mobile TV
Vevo
Vessel
Univision Deportes
Major League Baseball
Go90
DirecTV
Fox Sports
Fox Sports GO
NBC Sports
Crackle
VUDU
Ustream

T-Mobile’s Binge On will be available to US Simple Choice Plan subscribers starting on November…

Original Moto 360 is now only $99.99

Motorola has unveiled the second-generation Moto 360 smartwatch this year, but its predecessor, the original round wearable, is still up for sale.

Not only that, but now the Moto 360 from 2014 has even received its most significant price cut ever. You can find the watch in the Google hardware store for a measly $99.99 (with free shipping, no less).

That’s way lower than the original asking price of $249.99. This promo isn’t surprising, though, as we assume Google is trying to clear its existing stock of the 2014 Moto 360. So if you’re interested in picking one up, don’t wait long – who knows how quickly Google manages to sell all of its remaining…
