Qt WebBrowser ya se distribuye bajo licencia GPLv3

La fundación QT, encargada de varios proyectos de Software Libre entre los que están las librerías QT, ha anunciado la disponibilidad de QT WebBrowser bajo licencia GPLv3, una liberación de uno de los motores web más potentes y también menos conocidos por muchos usuarios.

Qt WebBrowser es el motor de navegación que tiene Chromium y que tras esta liberación y la de otros componentes como Qt Quick y Qt Virtual Keyboard hace que Chromium sea más libre de lo normal y siendo una gran opción para muchas distribuciones que por estas licencias han tenido que usar librerías Gtk para el navegador web.

Tanto el código con el software compilado de Qt WebBrowser se puede adquirir a través de este enlace.  Un código que seguramente muchos proyectos Gnu/Linux ya estarán utilizando aunque los miembros de KDE no han dicho nada a pesar de que muchos esperan que Qt WebBrowser se incorpore o sea utilizado por el Proyecto KDE.

Qt WebBrowser es un navegador web moderno que no sólo incorpora las últimas funciones de los navegadores web sino que también incorpora la opción táctil y una versión para pantallas táctiles. Esto hace que el navegador necesite 1 Gb de memoria ram y soporte para OpenGL para poder funcionar, requisitos que aún algunos ordenadores viejos no tienen y por lo tanto no podrán utilizar, pero el proyecto KDE no se ha caracterizado por necesitar pocos recursos para funcionar.

Poco a poco las librerías QT están teniendo la fama que hace años consiguieron las librerías GTK, sobretodo por la necesidad de recursos que están alcanzando las nuevas versiones de GTK. Aún así, personalmente creo que las librerías QT siguen consumiendo grandes recursos y se puede ver en las pruebas realizadas por LxQT y Lxde, escritorios que se caracterizan por el uso de ambas librerías. Pero no deja de ser interesante que Qt WebBrowser sea liberado sobretodo por la nueva corriente de navegadores y funciones que vendrán a Gnu/Linux.

22-Year-Old Blind Apple Engineer Is Slaying The Tech World

The 22-year-old, who has been blind since birth, currently works on Apple’s VoiceOver technology. “I came to realize that with my knowledge of computers and technology, I could help change the world for people with disabilities.”

Sunset at the Viking Lander 1 Site

On July 20, 1976, at 8:12 a.m. EDT, NASA received the signal that the Viking Lander 1 successfully reached the Martian surface.
