Amazon Vs. Alibaba: Cloud Computing & Infrastructure Growth

Online retail giants Amazon and Alibaba have both seen massive growth in their cloud computing businesses over the past few years. Both Amazon Web Services and Alibaba’s cloud computing and infrastructure segments have outpaced the growth in total worldwide spending on cloud computing and infrastructure services. Alibaba has grown at a faster pace than Amazon, primarily due to the fact that it is primarily present in China, which is a relatively nascent and fast-growing market. Correspondingly, Alibaba’s cloud computing revenues are significantly lower than Amazon’s AWS revenues.

Can A Partnership With Alibaba Be A Game Changer For Samsung?

Media reports suggest that Samsung Electronics and Alibaba are planning to enter into collaboration on mobile payments, under which Samsung will allow its smartphone users to use Alipay, Alibaba’s mobile payment service to make payments. Samsung launched its mobile payment service called “Samsung Pay” earlier this year in China , shortly after Apple Pay was launched in the region. However, the Chinese mobile payments market is dominated by Alipay, which has more than 350 million registered users in China and a 70% market share. On the contrary, a strategic tie-up with Alibaba could revive Samsung’s smartphone business in the region and could prove to be a strong revenue driver for the company.

Only 15% Of Americans Have Used A Ride-Hailing App [Infographic]

Apps that allow users to request a taxi cab, track the driver and pay for the journey via smartphone have gained increasing levels of traction in recent years. However, despite their increasing prominence, the vast majority of Americans have not used apps such as Uber or Lyft. A new study from Pew Research has found that while 72 percent of people in the U.S. have used some type of shared or on-demand online service, only 15 percent of them have used ride-hailing apps.
