Chinese car maintenance company Bopai, which operates via an online-to-offline model where consumers hail various brick-and-mortar services through smartphones, last March announced an $18 million funding round from powerful investors including Chinese e-commerce site JD.com and venture capital Innovation Works. Its founder, Ji Wei, claimed that customers in 22 cities were able to order services such as car washing, wheel alignment and air filter inspection for as low as 1 yuan.
