If a male songbird is worried about his mate’s fidelity, should he react violently towards a rival male, or should he sing a song duet with his mate when a rival shows up? A newly published study in the red-backed fairy-wren, a highly promiscuous species with high rates of extra-pair paternity, reveals that physical aggression towards an intruder accomplished nothing, whereas males who sang a duet with their mate had a significantly higher rate of paternity. These results suggest that song duets acted either as acoustic mate-guarding or as male–female vocal negotiations that lead to increased paternity.

Following in the footsteps of Samsung, itself emulating Apple’s strategy, OnePlus has today launched its own installment system for purchasing its products. That said, it’s quite different from the others, since you can’t switch devices after a set period of time. It’s only available in the US right now, and you’ll obviously have to use the OnePlus online store to buy what you want to pay for in monthly installments.
The system can be chosen for any order that’s over $99, but it’s just an option – if you prefer to shell out the entire amount upon checkout, you can still do that too.
To go the installment route, you need to select PayPal Credit as the payment option when completing your order. There’s a calculator function that will then show up, telling you exactly how much you’ll pay every month. For the OnePlus 2, going with the 18-month plan means you’ll have to pay $22.60 every 30 days, while for the OnePlus X that’s going to be $16.12 every month for one and a half years.
Do note however that this isn’t an interest-free installment arrangement. If you choose to pay monthly, by the end of those 18 months the OnePlus 2 will have cost you $406.80, which is $57.80 more than its $349 price. In the case of the OnePlus X, you’ll end up paying $41.16…

Sony has begun rolling out its Android 6.0 update for the Xperia Z5 series. The update packs all of the features you’d expect from a Marshmallow upgrade, in addition to Android’s February security patch. LinkedIn recently introduced a service which allows marketers to run targeted campaigns on a large scale with a capacity of creating custom segments with 30,000 companies at once. This offering is called LinkedIn Account Targeting and is the first part of the company’s Audience Match program. It allows advertising similar to that offered by Facebook, where marketers can choose their target audience. Prior to this launch, targeted advertising on LinkedIn was a manual process limited to 100 companies, making it difficult for marketers to launch targeted campaigns. LinkedIn’s advertising revenues grew by more than 20% for the fiscal year 2015 and Sponsored Updates, its native advertising product, was a major driver of this increase. By providing advertisers a facility to target the most relevant and engaged audience for their products, LinkedIn will be able to boost its advertising revenues in future and thus compete better with other social networking websites.
