New Samsung Pay users can now get a free wireless charging pad

Samsung has run a lot of Samsung Pay promotions to date, but if you’ve missed out on them, you’re getting another chance right now.

A new Samsung Pay promotion will give a free Qi-compatible wireless charging pad to anyone that activates their first card with Samsung’s mobile payment app. The promo runs from March 2 through March 10, and it’s available to new Samsung Pay users with a Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, S7, S7 edge, or Galaxy Note 5.

To get your free wireless charging pad, you need to load up the Samsung Pay app and register a qualifying credit or debit card. Once you do, go into the “Events” part of the app, then go to “More,” and then click on “Samsung Pay Card Registration Offer.” After agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, you’ll get a coupon code that can be redeemed on Samsung’s web store for one Samsung Wireless Charging Pad in Black Sapphire, worth $49.99.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are already starting to hit the hands of pre-order customers, and so this offer can encourage them to try out Samsung Pay. However, other Galaxy owners can qualify, too, so if you’ve got a device that is compatible with Samsung Pay and you haven’t yet added a card, you can do so now to get yourself a free wireless charging pad.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge teardown exposes all of its internals

While the Samsung Galaxy S7 got its first teardown last month, now it’s time for the curvy S7 edge to receive the exact same treatment. The folks over at Chipworks have done the deed this time around, disassembling the handset and letting it reveal all of its secrets.

The 12 MP camera module measures 12.1 x 12.1 x 5.4 mm. The Sony IMX260 sensor has been rumored to be inside, and while the exact model isn’t written anywhere there is a Sony logo on the module’s flex cable, so that tidbit could be true indeed.

Near the camera module there’s a STMicroelectronics K2G2IS gyroscope, used for optical image stabilization. The camera, as you may know, has 1.4 micron pixels, as well as a Dual Pixel autofocus system that’s unique for the mobile world.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 (model MSM8996) chipset is present in this T-Mobile version of the S7 edge, along with 4GB of LPDDR4 SDRAM made by Hynix (though surely Samsung-made memory is present in other batches of the device).

There’s a big increase in interconnecting solder bumps between the top and bottom parts of the PoP (that’s the package-on-package format in which the SoC is hidden under the RAM). This could either account for higher memory bandwidth or the need to dissipate more heat from the CPU and/or GPU.

The touchscreen controller is made by Samsung itself, with part number S6SA552X. This hasn’t been a widely used module so far, but that will probably change in the future. The Galaxy S7 edge also features a Knowles 9291S microphone, a Murata KM5D18098 Wi-Fi module, an NXP 67TO5 NFC controller, an IDT P9221 wireless power receiver, and an STM LPS25HB barometer. Aunque los teléfonos han sido los claros protagonistas en el Mobile World Congress, LG nos ha sorprendido con algún que otro gadget diferente. No, en este caso no hablamos del curioso LG Rolling Bot, sino de sus auriculares premium LG Tone Platinum.

Bajo el código HBS-1100 se esconden los LG Tone Platinum, unos auriculares con un diseño moderno y elegante que destaca por la calidad de audio que ofrecen. ¿Su secreto? la tecnología que incorporan, desarrollada junto a la conocida firma Harman Kardon.

El diseño Balanced Armature, habitual en los auriculares de gama alta, permite que los LG Tone Platinum tengan unos acabados de calidad, siendo realmente ergonómicos además de ofrecer una gran resistencia a golpes y caídas.

Muestra de ello es el cable de kevlar que sirve para poder alargar los auriculares cuando recibamos una llamada. ¿Y qué decir de la calidad del sonido? Pues que los Tone Platinum incorporan la tecnología aptX HD Audio Codec, que garantiza una calidad de audio realmente buena.

Otro detalle destacable de estos auriculares de LG llega con la posibilidad de utilizarlos como manos libres. Además el equipo de LG ha incorporado dos micrófonos con cancelación de ruido por lo que no tendrás ningún problema a la hora de utilizar los LG Tone Platinum como manos libres en cualquier entorno, incluso puedes utilizar comandos de voz para atender las llamadas entrantes.

Este dispositivo, que llegará en breve al mercado europeo, es compatible con cualquier teléfono Android que tenga la versión 4.1 o superior del sistema operativo de Google. ¿Su precio? un misterio, aunque viendo sus acabados y calidad de sonido, creo que costarán entre los 150 y los 200 euros.
