A “Survivor”-like “reality television” series… filmed in Minecraft! via /r/Minecraft

A “Survivor”-like “reality television” series… filmed in Minecraft!

If the TV show "survivor" is one of your guilty pleasures, then you may also enjoy watching the currently-airing season of Surviving Mindcrack Island.

Here's the format:

  • A group of 12 competitors on a tropical island compete in challenges to see who can be the last remaining contestant
  • Divided into two teams/camps of 6 people, competing in various daily challenges, each with either team or individual rewards
  • At the end of each episode, a vote from the participants decides which one is voted off the island each episode

This series is interesting/different from most Minecraft stuff you see on YouTube:

  • The entire competition was filmed over 22 consecutive hours, so that real-life fatigue factored in to people's Minecraft play and decision-making skills later in the competition
  • A directional audio plugin was used, so that competitors could only hear/talk to players who were standing near them in Minecraft, both allowing for private conversations, and also making team communication difficult during many challenges
  • There are lots of cameramen and angles, so the final produced video watches more like a produced TV show than most typical Minecraft videos

You can watch the first episode of the series here. New episodes appear each Friday afternoon at 4pm Eastern time here; episode two airs tomorrow (March 18).

You can watch a very brief preview of episode 2 here.

There is also a mid-week speculation/predictions thread for those who enjoy the water-cooler discussion after an episode.

Disclosure: I am one of the participants. I think a fair number of folks here might find this interesting/entertaining, so I wanted to share it.

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) in Gold
These images give us a great close-up of the corners of the J5, which are very similar to those of the more premium Galaxy A (2016) lineup. A leaked manual already pointed to a metal frame, but here’s more proof if you needed it.

A notch on the back cover (visible in the side shot) suggests the back will be removable. It also has a slight brushed metal…
