Samsung to build a $300 million R&D center in Vietnam

Samsung is about to start the construction of a new Research & Development center in Vietnam. The new facility will be in Hanoi and will cost the company $300 million.

The Vietnamese government has agreed to give Samsung the land to build its R&D center without having to pay rent for the next 50 years.

The company is forced to make the investment in a new facility due to restricted space in the one already in operation in Hanoi. The new center will join the ones in the Bac Ninh and Thai Nguyen provinces.

Xiaomi podría tener la respuesta al iPhone SE: un tope de gama de 4,3 pulgadas

Hace unos días, Apple realizaba un movimiento algo extraño, pero por otra parte coherente, lanzando al mercado el nuevo iPhone SE, en principio, un terminal gama alta, con un tamaño muy contenido, pues su pantalla bajaba hasta las 4 pulgadas, algo muy difícil de ver en el mercado actualmente, y que pretende rellenar ese nicho de mercado que actualmente está en tierra de nadie.

Si realmente hay una marca que tiene la capacidad de plantarle cara a Apple en cuanto a innovación se refiere, es Xiaomi, pues tal y como hemos visto en la fuente china, ITHome, la compañía podría estar cerca de presentar un pequño gran terminal destinado a rivalizar con el iPhone 5SE.

Este posible terminal, denominado Xiaomi Mi 2SE, incorporaría unas características de terminal tope de gama, en un cuerpo muy contenido con una pantalla de solo 4,3 pulgadas y resolución HD, con un diseño muy similar al del recientemente lanzado Xiaomi Mi 5, un terminal que nos ha encantado.

Entre las especificaciones que podría incluir en este dispositivo, nos encontraríamos el poderoso procesador Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, al igual que su hermano mayor, junto a 3 GB de RAM y 32 GB de almacenamiento, mientras que en el apartado fotográfico tendríamos una cámara de 13 megapíxeles. También sería sorprendente el precio del terminal, pues según las filtraciones, podría estar entre los 275 dólares –246 euros– al cambio, además, sería lanzado en junio de este mismo año.

Aún es muy pronto para sacar conclusiones sobre este movimiento por parte de Xiaomi, y aún más pronto, para confirmar alguno de los detalles del dispositivo en base a estos rumores, pero es más que probable que, teniendo en cuenta los antecedentes de Xiaomi, intente hacerse un hueco en este tipo de familias de dispositivos que, por ahora, nadie se ha atrevido a abordar en el panorama Android.

Samsung C-series in the works, 5.2-inch C5000 leads the way

Samsung has been expanding its lineup all over the Latin alphabet, and the newest addition is apparently going to be a C-series. Evidence of that comes from an import listing on Indian customs database Zauba.

The smartphone in question carries a model number SM-C5000 and features a 5.2-inch display, and this is all that’s been revealed now. Sources say that a C7000 model is also in development, but display size hasn’t been specified.

It’s tough to pinpoint exactly where the new series will be positioned – after all Samsung’s alphabet goes S-A-J-E-Z in descending order of price,…

She was the founding Executive Director of MIT OpenCourseWare, the  internationally acclaimed initiative to publish the teaching materials for their entire curriculum openly and freely over the Internet. As such, she was involved in some of the earliest precursors of today’s MOOCs.
