Today Vivo held a special event in China to announce its next flagship lineup – the Vivo Xplay 5. As it turned out the Xplay 5 will launch in two different models – Vivo Xplay 5 and Vivo Xplay 5 Elite.
Vivo Xplay 5 Elite
Vivo Xplay 5 Elite is a more powerful model, made entirely of metal and using Gorilla Glass 4 to cover the dual-curved 5.43″ Super AMOLED Quad HD screen. It is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset with the insane 6GB RAM and integrated non-expandable 128GB storage right out the box.
The Xplay 5 Elite has a rear 16MP (Sony IMX298) snapper with phase-detection AF and dual-tone LED flash, plus an 8MP selfie snapper at the front. The Xplay 5 Elite is a dual-SIM device, supports LTE networks, Hi-Fi 3.0 (2*ES9028+OPA1612), and comes with a 3,600 mAh battery.
Finally, the Xplay 5 Elite has a rear fingerprint scanner on the back.
The Xplay 5 Elite runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop, skinned with the latest Funtouch launcher with split-screen multitasking support. It will launch on March 8 in China and will set you back CNY 4,288 ($655).
Vivo Xplay 5
The Vivo Xplay 5 is a more affordable version of the Elite model, which retains the same design, 5.43″ Super AMOLED QHD display, camera setup, and 128GB storage, but downgrades the chipset to Snapdragon 652 with 4GB of RAM. The Hi-Fi chip configuration is also of a different kind – CS4395+AD45257.
Vivo Xplay 5 will launch in China on March 8 for CNY 3,698 ($565).
In case you are not familiar with the Snapdragon models – the 652 flavor offers an octa-core processor with 4xCortex-A72 at 1.8GHz + 4xCortex-A53 at 1.4GHz, and Adreno 510 GPU. The 820 flagship chip packs a custom quad-core Kryo processor and Adreno 530 GPU.
There are no details on international availability, but we guess both models will expand their market reach later on.

Why You Should Ditch Google Maps for Apple Maps
I count myself among the majority of iPhone owners who not only didn’t use Apple Maps, but vehemently avoided it. But I reluctantly gave it a second shot when Apple unveiled the revamped version of Maps for iOS 9. To my amazement, not only did it not completely suck, but it was good.

We’re likely still a ways out from seeing Android N officially announced, but leaks are slowly trickling in. Tonight’s leak is another one from Android Police, which has received a look at Android N’s notification shade and created mock-ups based on what it saw (the original screenshots can’t be released). From what it looks like, Android N is bringing some changes to the notification shade and accompanying Quick Settings panel.
Notifications now extend the full width of the display and don’t feature a separated space between them. They contain slightly more information, such as a line revealing which app produced the notification. There also appears to be some capability for colored text now, though it’s unclear how far it extends.
Quick Settings have also seen a change. Above the notifications, there now lies a bar of Quick Settings toggles for the most common Quick Settings, such as Wi-Fi and Do Not Disturb. Opening the full Quick Settings menu reveals that it has also become full-width and features two pages to allow you to move less important toggles to the second page. There’s also an edit button, which is likely an expanded version of UI tuner options. Android Police also reports that the expandable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth menus were not in the version that it tested.
It should be noted that this is likely an early version and everything in it is subject to change until an official launch by Google. That being said, it’s interesting to see how Google may be changing Android. We’re looking forward to learning more in the coming weeks and months.

Durante el Mobile World Congress hay infinidad de cosas que puedes hacer, no obstante, este año he tenido la oportunidad de tener una experiencia algo distinta a años anteriores, que me gustaría compartir con vosotros. Un par de semanas antes del comienzo de la feria, fui contactado por la agencia de IBM en Estados Unidos para participar en un programa de intercambio de ideas y fomento de proyectos relacionados con la mobilidad. Rápidamente acepté el reto de compartir mis conocimientos sobre tecnología con algunos de los mayores expertos de alrededor del mundo.
El proyecto en si, consistia en juntar a varias personas dentro de un vehículo y comentar algunos de los temas de actualidad de lo que estaba aconteciendo durante el MWC, todo ello, mientras dabamos vueltas por Barcelona. No se trataba tanto de hablar de los últimos productos presentados, como de adivinar como iban a afectar todas estas tecnologías y servicios en un futuro próximo. La verdad, es que la experiencia no pudo ser más positiva, desde las smart city hasta los servicios de consumo colaborativo, pasando por la realidad virtual. Discutir sobre todos estos temas en el marco del evento más importante del mundo relacionado con el móvil fue una oportunidad increíble. Para mi personalmente fue muy positivo encontrar un momento dentro de la locura del Mobile World Congress para dejar por un segundo toda la avalancha de información y charlar relajadamente sobre temas que nos interesan a todos.
Una vez terminada nuestra charla, y ya de nuevo dentro del recinto donde se celebra la feria, me llamó la atención alguna de las tecnologías que pude ver en el stand de iBM, la que más expectación levantaba era un pequeño robot azul y blanco, que lejos de ser el clásico acercamiento a un robot que puede realizar acciones físicas, estaba más cerca de la inteligencia artificial y de un dispositivo capaz de mantener una conversación fluida y natural con un ser humano. Es increíble ver como cada vez más nos vamos acercando a la experiencia del lenguaje natural y conseguimos experiencias cercanas a la de una conversación con otra persona. Además de esto, también me gusto una tecnología que emulaba nuestra silueta en un panel digital, es decir, nos colocábamos en frente de una pantalla gigante, y nuestra silueta y movimientos eran trackeados y reproducidos en tiempo real. Algo que conceptualmente parece simple pero que con un desarrollo en el futuro puede traernos muchos servicios interesantes.
Simplemente he querido compartir estas líneas, habiendo dejado días atrás el MWC, para contaros esta experiencia que me resultó de lo más enriquecedora. Porque de vez en cuando, es bueno dejar a un lado los smartphones y tratar de ver un poco más allá reflexionando sobre donde nos están llevando estas tecnologías.
