US and UK BlackBerry discounts for Valentine’s Day

The official BlackBerry store is offering a couple of cool offers for this Valentine’s Day weekend on the BlackBerry Priv. Up until February 24, the US and UK BlackBerry stores will be offering the BlackBerry Priv in black for a discounted price of $650 or £529.

The deal is sold as a bundle so it also includes a complimentary set of accessories for your BlackBerry Priv at a value of $99 or £74.

These accessories only include a smart cover case and a sync station that doubles a phone stand. Still, it’s a great offer even with the discounted phone.

Also, the BlackBerry Passport can be purchased for $399 or £349 in either black or white.

Hugo Barra publica fotografías realizadas con el Xiaomi Mi 5

Ya queda menos para que el Xiaomi Mi 5, el esperado nuevo buque insignia del fabricante asiático, sea presentado. Como ya os anunciamos en su momento, será presentado el próximo 24 de febrero en el Mobile World Congress.

Hemos ido descubriendo poco a poco sus características técnicas, diseño y algún que otro detalle. Ahora toca hablar de su cámara. Y es que Hugo Barra ha publicado en su página de Facebook una serie de fotografías capturas con la cámara del Xiaomi Mi 5. Y pintan realmente bien, que junto a las que ya vimos en su momento, dejan patente la calidad de la cámara del Xiaomi Mi 5.

La verdad es que el ex empleado de Google ha tenido unos días de descanso realmente agradables, a tenor del contenido de las fotografías realizadas. Independientemente de lo bien que viva el actual Vice Presidente de Xiaomi, lo que está claro es que la cámara del Xiaomi Mi 5 va a ser realmente buena.

Y es que nos ha dejado impresionados con el nivel de detalle conseguido con la cámara, incluso capturando imágenes en movimiento. Eso sí, el balance de blancos parece que no es su punto fuerte, pero siguen siendo unas capturas excelentes.

Para conseguir estas capturas, el Vice Presidente de Xiaomi hizo varias imágenes a unas hojas de planta en modo HDR, aunque la escena no lo requiere ya que predominan los tonos verdes, pero la idea era que viéramos el nivel de detalle que alcanza la lente de 16 megapíxeles que integra el Mi 5.

Según Hugo Barra, todas las imágenes se han realizado en modo automático, lo único que ha activado de manera manual es el Modo HDR. Y viendo cómo han quedado, hay que reconocer el gran trabajo realizado por el equipo de Xiaomi para conseguir la cámara del Xiaomi Mi 5 destaque.

LG V10 has a vulnerability in fingerprint security

The LG V10 seems to have a significant security vulnerability not shared by other devices with fingerprint readers. The bad news is that someone can add their fingerprint to your V10 without a PIN. The good news is that you have to unlock it for them first.

If someone gets their hands on your locked phone, they won’t be able to access it. But if you give it to them unlocked, to make a phone call or show off a photo for example, your phone is vulnerable. Normally, going into the fingerprint settings means entering your PIN.

But if you use a third party launcher and add an activity shortcut for adding fingerprints, you bypass the need for a PIN. You can add a fignerprint right away, letting you unlock someone’s phone at a later time.

Luckily, there’s an easy temporary fix. The LG V10 allows for a maximum of four fingerprints, so just fill all four slots and no one will be able to add another. This fix will work fine until LG patches the vulnerability.
