Huawei P9: nuevas filtraciones sobre sus características y sus variantes

Con el Mobile World Congress a menos de una semana, todos estamos ansiosos por ver qué nos deparan las distintas firmas para este 2016. Aún así, el MWC no es solo Samsung, Sony y LG, sino que también esperamos cosas interesantes de otras firmas, sobretodo del mercado asiático, quienes últimamente están dominando la gama media-alta en Android.

Precisamente, Huawei tiene un buen planning para este MWC, entre otras cosas por sus nuevos “topes de gama”: el esperado Huawei P9, sucesor del exitoso P8 y de quien se rumoreó que vendría con 6 GB de memoria RAM. Hoy pero, gracias a una nueva filtración, nos hacemos una idea de cómo será este P9.

Huawei P9, un nuevo “monstruo” con lo último de Kirin

Gracias a la filtración de Gizchina, hoy conocemos un poco más con qué nos sorprenderá este P9, de quién se esperan grandes cosas debido al historial de anteriores “Huawei’s P”. Lo primero que se desmienten son sus 6 GB de RAM y su pantalla 2K, de quienes hablamos anteriormente.

Al parecer, el Huawei P9 incorporará una pantalla de 5,2 pulgadas a resolución 1080p, que moverá un procesador Kirin 955 a 2,3 o 2,5 Ghz junto a una RAM ahora sí de 4 GB, mucho más acorde con las especificaciones de otros terminales del momento.

Por otro lado, lo último de Huawei vendría con una limitada cámara trasera de 12 megapíxeles mientras que en la frontal incorporaría una de 8 megapíxeles, ambas con lente doble. También se confirma la existencia de otras versiones de este P9, una de las cuales podría venir con el nombre de “Youth” y sería algo más económico que el principal P9.

El precio sigue siendo una incógnita, y tampoco se espera que se desvele el día de su presentación, estimada durante el Mobile World Congress que empieza en breves, el lunes 21 de Febrero, donde por supuesto estaremos allí para informaros de lo último. Hasta entonces, solo podemos imaginarnos estos P9 por sus rumores procedentes de China.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge in black photographed

The Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge pair have been thoroughly leaked over the past weeks and one of the latest bits was the set of renders depicting a few color options. Conservative choices on Samsung’s part, mostly, and that may disappoint those looking for some rose gold flair.

However, the ones hoping for an all-black flagship will be pleased to see that Samsung has abandoned last year’s Black Sapphire color option (which was really dark blue). It’s a proper deep black paint job now, as revealed in these two live images of a Galaxy S7 edge.

Blurry as they may be, the photos show no peculiar color shifts at an angle, but also reveal an inherent issue with the all-glass design – fingerprints. So if you’re after a dark Galaxy, you better be prepared for regular wiping sessions.

Alternatively, if you find the regular designs too bland and utilitarian, you will be able to pick a superhero-themed Galaxy S7, it seems. Always great to have…

El huawei Honor 7 tendrá su ración de Android 6.0 Marshmallow en dos semanas

¿Qué es lo que puede conseguir que un usuario se ponga bien contento con su teléfono? Posiblemente que actualizarlo a Android Marshmallow antes que otros y así aventajarse de alguna de las capacidades exclusivas de una versión mayor de Android que ha sido capaz de demostrar que mejora considerablemente la autonomía del terminal gracias al sistema doze. Un sistema que se encargar de “despertar” al teléfono cada poco tiempo para activar la conexión de datos o WiFi para que así el usuario pueda recibir las notificaciones. Al gestionar los momentos en los que “despierta” este modo doze permite ahorrar una buena cantidad de batería cuando el teléfono se encuentra en reposo, porque es justamente bajo ese estado en el que este sistema funcionará.

Ese Android 6.0 Marshmallow se está dirigiendo a uno de los terminales de mayor interés fabricado por el tercer mayor fabricante de smartphones del planeta, Huawei. El Honor 7 es el que tendrá muy pronto su ración de Marshmallow para el beneplácito de los poseedores de este fantástico terminal. Ya desde hace un mes o poco más, los propietarios del Honor 7 han sido capaces de probar la beta de Android 6.0 Marshmallow en su terminal, aunque solamente aquellos que se encuentran en ciertos países seleccionados para la prueba. Hoy la compañía ha anunciado que todos los propietarios de un Honor 7 tendrán la nueva actualización de Android en sus terminales en dos semanas.

Esta información llega desde la cuenta Twitter de Honor EU e informa que aquellos que están participando en el programa beta recibirán una versión final por OTA (over the air) dentro de muy poco. Aunque estas actualizaciones serán publicadas por fases, podría existir un mínimo retraso. Así que ahora que la nueva versión ha sido probada y está lista para su despliegue, todos los demás deberían de recibir una actualización a través de OTA en algún momento de las próximas dos semanas.

Aquellos que tengáis este terminal, será interesante que os acerquéis a los propios foros en HTCmanía o XDA para estar atentos del lanzamiento de la OTA, ya que posiblemente podáis instalarla antes de que llegue a vuestra región.

Una esperada actualización

Lo que es curioso es que, aunque Marshmallow no sea la gran actualización que si fue Lollipop, a final de cuentas estamos con las mismas, ya que la 5.0 empezó a ser distribuida en el mes de febrero del año pasado por las marcas más reconocidas. Ahora sucede lo mismo con Marshmallow. Estamos hablando de una actualización que todavía está por caer en el nuevo Galaxy Note 5 o ese Galaxy S6 edge, o en los incluso más actuales Xperia Z5.

Honor 7

En el caso propio de Huawei es todo un acierto para los que tengan un Huawei Honor 7, ya que podrían tener Marshmallow y aprovecharse de Google Now on Tap y mejoras en la batería con Doze antes que los propios que posean un Mate S o P8, que han de saltar todavía a esta versión 6.0.

Si nos vamos a Sony, hace días lo conocimos, los poseedores de un Xperia Z2 o Z3 compact ahora son capaces de probar el programa beta de Marshmallow, mientras que los que tienen el recién salido del horno Z5, han de esperar a que esa beta vaya mejor de lo esperado y puedan lanzarlo en el mes de marzo, que es el mes que se supone en el que se tendrá la 6.0.

Seguramente que nos veamos en la misma tesitura para el próximo año cuando nos volvamos a ver las caras sobre las actualizaciones a los futuros Honor o Xperia, y nos demos cuenta que ese lanzamiento de los previos de Android se encuentran un gran escollo por delante: las capas personalizadas de los fabricantes. Esperemos que también algunos fabricantes apuesten por una versión más pura de Android y que Sony finalmente se implique en el lanzamiento de ese “Concept for Marshmallow” y sea la base del software de sus teléfonos. Esto permitirá que se pueda actualizar el teléfono en semanas, ya que la capa personalizada solamente pasa por varias apps que serán actualizadas desde la Google Play Store.

Samsung pushing Android 6.0 update for Galaxy S6, S6 edge

Android has always had an issue with providing timely updates, though things have improved marginally over the years. Nonetheless, many smartphone owners are left waiting for an update well after the new software is released. Today brings in a case of that with two of last year’s biggest phones, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, just now receiving their update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which was released in November.

The update is rolling out to unlocked models of the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge now, with further announcements regarding specific carrier updates coming soon. Samsung has also said that other Galaxy series devices will begin to receive their Marshmallow updates in the near future.

While the updates include the usual Marshmallow features, such as Doze to improve battery life, Samsung has also packed in impressive new features for Galaxy S6 edge owners. Samsung has added new Edge Screen features to the update that include things like popular contacts, most-used apps, quick task shortcuts and a set of Quick Tools, such as a compass and ruler. These are all accessible by simply swiping in from the edge of the screen with the Edge handle, a fixed tab that users can place where it’s most convenient. The Edge tab will remain on the side of the display, regardless of what app you’re using, so you can always swipe in to open it up.

Additionally, the Edge tab will have a growing list of features, as Samsung has opened it up to developers to create widgets that make it even more useful.

Even though the update has taken its time to arrive, it will at least bring in some solid features for Galaxy S6 edge users. Let us know what you think of it when you receive the update!

LG teases the X screen and X cam with individually unique features

The Life’s Good crew has aspirations of making waves in the smartphone market with its upcoming announcement of the G5 later this month. Before that, though, the company wants to launch a brand new phone series with a mid-range price point in mind.

Each phone in the X series has a unique feature to make it stand out and give it a boost from its high-end devices while avoiding the high-end price tag. The X series joins a growing letter-based lineage, with the G, V, and K series coming before it. LG calls the X series “specialist” devices, with that one feature that will hopefully make it stand out in the crowded market.

First up is the X screen. Like the V10, the X screen has a pair of screens on the front, with the larger of the pair measuring in at 4.93 inches. The second, meanwhile, measures in at 1.76 inches. That second display will let users control their music, answer calls, and access their favorite apps. It can also let you manage notifications without activating the main display. Under the hood there’s a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a battery that comes in at 2300mAh. There’s a 13-megapixel camera on the back, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera on the other side. It’ll boast 16GB of built-in storage, and LG says it’s running Android 6.0 right out of the box.

The other device is the X camera. As the name suggests, this one’s all about the cameras. Specifically on the back, as LG has equipped the handset with 13 and 5-megapixel sensors. These cameras offer the “most advanced camera experience in a mass-tier smartphone,” according to LG. There’s also an 8-megapixel camera on the front. Other features include a octa-core processor, with a 5.2-inch 1080p HD display, and 2GB of RAM. It’s running Android 6.0, and has a battery measured in at 2520mAh, and 16GB of built-in storage.

LG says the X series will launch first in “key markets” in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t divulged just yet how much they devices will cost.

What started off as another choppy ride in the markets last week, turned into another down draft following Fed Chairwoman Janet Yellen’s clear as mud testimony before the House Finance Committee midweek. Then on Friday, amid a flurry of upsized stock repurchase plans, insider buying disclosures and comments from the energy minister of OPEC member United Arab Emirates that fueled speculation on production cuts, we saw the sharp market rally. This combination of events and oil speculation that drove the market higher on Friday, likely resulted in a hefty amount of short covering along the way. Of course, despite Friday’s 2 percent rally in the S&P 500, that index as well as the other major market indices once again closed the week in the red.

How Weather And An ‘Interstate of Renewable Energy’ Could Save The Climate By 2030

Rethinking how energy is delivered to our homes and businesses is not what I knew outgoing American Meteorological Society  (AMS) President Dr. Alexander “Sandy” MacDonald to be working on. During my tenure as 2013 AMS President, the recently retired director of NOAA’s Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) in Boulder, Colorado came up to me and said (paraphrased),

I am working on something big. You are going to want this on Weather Channel Weather Geeks

He couldn’t really say much at that time, but he was right. His new study was recently published in the journal Nature Climate Change, a very high-impact scholarly journal.  The NOAA press release says the paper argues that by 2030 electricity in the United States could be provided primarily by wind and the sun. Ummmm, wait, that is 14 years away!

Sony Huis – the crowd-funded, e-Ink based universal remote

Sony’s new e-Ink based universal remote is called Huis (allegedly pronounced “house”). The always-on display means the remote is always ready to use (smartphone IR remote apps always need to wake up the screen).

The Huis is designed to stand upright to blend in with the rest of your electronics (it measures 123 x 68 x 24mm, 130g). The 1,500mAh battery is rated at about a month (based on 100 uses per day).

The remote also has Bluetooth LE built-in, which will be enabled in the future. You can download remotes for various gadgets – TVs, air conditioners, anything IR-based really.

You can also use a PC app to design your own remote interface, complete with cute images to appeal to children.

The Sony Huis is a product of the First Flight crowd funding platform (which previously brought an e-paper smart watch). The Huis will be available only in Japan for now, starting in March. Pre-orders run for JPY 27,950 (around $250), putting it against the Logitech Harmony remotes on price.
