Google’s latest Android ad is called “Monotone,” and it’s a comparison of a musical piece played on a regular piano and a piano modified so that every key plays middle C. It’s an interesting ad, showing that it’s better to be “together and different” rather than all the same.
It’s likely taking shots at iPhone users, who all use the same phones. Android, on the other hand, has a huge variety of different phones from different manufacturers that run the same software and are all compatible with each other (for the most part). Samsung has been pushing its payment service pretty hard. Samsung Pay has had multiple promotions so far, with free chargers and even money being offered to those who sign up for the service. Now Samsung has another promotion going on, and you can get a pair of free Samsung Level U wireless headphones for adding your first card to Pay.
To take advantage of the promotion, open up Samsung Pay and add your card to the app. Then hit the button in the upper right corner and hit Events, where you’ll see more info on how to get your promo code for the free headphones.
The headphones retail for $70 on Samsung’s site, though they’re $35 on Amazon. It’s a good deal for doing almost nothing, though it only applies to Samsung phone owners (and even then a limited amount of Samsung phones) and those who haven’t signed up for Samsung Pay yet. Sony has announced a new camera sensor that will soon hit the market, and it’s pretty impressive on paper. The company is already the leader in mobile camera sensors, so this new one should be just as great and it’s likely that many manufacturers will adopt it for their high end devices.
The Sony IMX318 is a stacked CMOS image sensor packed with features. It features a 1.0μm pixel size, which makes the sensor smaller than its 20MP predecessor despite having more pixels. However, Sony claims this has not reduced effectiveness in low light.
The sensor also features hybrid autofocus, which combines image plane phase detection AF and contrast detection AF to achieve focus times as fast as 0.03 seconds, or even 0.017 seconds when shooting 60 FPS video.
The sensor also supports 3 axis image stabilization for video, using the built-in hyro to stabilize 4K video pretty impressively. The processing hardware is inside the image sensor, so it won’t have to use the device’s processor to achieve stabilization.
The shipment date for this sensor will be May of 2016, and samples will cost 2,000 yen, or $17.55 USD. Hopefully we’ll start seeing the sensor in phones late 2016, because it looks quite impressive.
Hace muy poco conocimos dos nuevos terminales de LG, los LG X Cam y X Screen, un par de dispositivos que inauguran la nueva familia de dispositivos especializados de la compañía surcoreana. Hoy, nueva información llega para darnos a conocer que está familia crecerá aún más a lo largo de todo el año.
El siempre confiable Evan Blass publicó un tweet en donde menciona que serán cuatro los dispositivos que llegarán a engrosar las filas de esta familia de terminales especializados. De acuerdo con la información de Blass, los nombres de estos próximos smartphones de LG son: LG X Max, X Speed, X Style y X Power.
LG X Series, la familia de terminales especializados
A pesar de que Blass ha revelado información de los terminales más allá de los nombres, es fácil intuir los segmentos en los que estarán enfocados. Comenzando con el X Max, seguramente veremos un terminal de grandes dimensiones y un buen desempeño, es decir una phablet con diversas funciones extras potenciadas quizás por un stylus.
El X Speed seguramente se tratará de un dispositivo con potencia bruta al por mayor, quizás no se trate de un tope de gama como tal, pero no le pedirá nada a otros terminales en cuestión de procesamiento. El siguiente en la lista es el X Style, un terminal muy seguramente de gama media con un diseño bastante elegante y enfocado en la personalización física, quizás con diferentes tapas traseras intercambiables.
Finalmente, el X Power seguramente llegará con una masiva batería para una brindar una autonomía sin igual a aquellas personas quienes pasan mucho tiempo fuera de casa y sin oportunidad de conectarse a una toma de corriente.
Tal parece que LG ha encontrado una manera de atacar muy ferozmente otros segmentos del mercado, sin descuidar el mercado tope de gama. Lamentablemente aún tendremos que esperar algunos meses antes de conocer todos los detalles y secretos de estos nuevos dispositivos.

Hace unas horas, Sony anunciaba un nuevo sensor fotográfico Exmor R para la línea de dispositivos móviles. El nuevo sensor, introducido al público con el nombre de IMX318, es en pocas palabras, una bestia parda. Y es que se trata del primer sensor CMOS en integrar enfoque automático además de estabilización electrónica de imagen de tres ejes. En pocas palabras, es lo último de lo último en salir al mercado.
El nuevo IMX318 es de tipo 1/2.6 y cuenta con 22,5 megapíxeles, además presume de un tamaño muy compacto, una mejor calidad de imagen respecto a sus competidores y un desempeño extremadamente alto a la hora de tomar fotografías. El sensor de Sony presenta una estructura “apilada” y los píxeles más pequeños de la industria, del tamaño de 1,0 micrómetros.
Por encima de todas las funcionalidades incluidas en este nuevo sensor, sobresale el enfoque automático híbrido. Normalmente, esta característica suele consistir en agrupar más de una manera de enfoque automático, ya sea enfoque basado en el contraste o enfoque por detección de fase. No obstante, lo que distingue al IMX318 de los demás sensores es que aúna todos los métodos de enfoque dentro del procesador interno de señal del mismo.
Gracias a esta nueva técnica, Sony afirma que el sensor consigue enfocar en 0,03 segundos al tomar una fotografía, y en 0,017 segundos mientras se graba un vídeo a 60 fps (fotogramas por segundo). En el vídeo de abajo se puede apreciar la rápida velocidad de enfoque de la que presume el nuevo IMX318. Además, según Sony, el sensor aborda la cuestión de fotografía nocturna. consiguiendo resultados excelentes.
Otra de las grandes mejoras del sensor es la estabilización de imagen de tres ejes, la cual consigue corregir la orientación del la imagen gracias a los datos que proporciona el giroscopio externo. De esta manera, el sensor recopila la información necesaria y la computa dentro de su propio procesador interno de señal. Asimismo, el procesado interno ahorra energía en comparación con el de software, que se realiza en el procesador principal.
Sin lugar a dudas, este nuevo sensor mejora ciertas apartados específicos en los que languidecen otros. Es necesario preguntarse de manera retrospectiva si realmente esa enorme cantidad de megapíxeles es necesaria en un smartphone.
Y es que tenemos otros ejemplos, como el Nexus 6P o Samsung Galaxy S6, que hacen uso de un menor número de megapíxeles, pero se sitúan en lo alto de las lista de terminales con mejores cámaras

Today is a pretty big day for owners of three Android smartphones sold by Verizon. That’s because the carrier has started rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for the HTC One M9, LG G3, and LG G4 – all at the same time.
As always in these cases, it may be a few days before you see the update hit your particular device, as the rollout is staged. That said, if you’re impatient you can always manually check by going to the relevant section in Settings.

LG has announced a new successor to the G4 Stylus simply called the Stylus 2. It’s meant to be a mid-range device with pen capability, sort of a step under the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 both in specs and in price. It has many Note-like features, such as a popup menu when you remove the stylus, an alert when you leave your stylus behind, and popup apps for note-taking.
The device features a 1280×720 5.7-inch display, a 1.2GHz quad core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with a microSD card, 8MP front and 13MP rear camera, a 3,000mAh battery, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It’s definitely no powerhouse, and the display seems to be the weakest link here.
The device will be shown off at Mobile World Congress, and hopefully we’ll get more details on it. A price would be useful in seeing where the device stands in the LG lineup. Though it’s not the high end device most of us want, it’s still good that LG is bringing mid range devices with high end features like the stylus. There’s definitely a market for that.
