Oficial: Motorola sigue existiendo, y los Moto E y Moto G están aquí para quedarse

Hemos hablado mucho recientemente de Motorola, y es que hará un mes se dispararon todas las alarmas tras recibir un rumor estremecedor: el posible fin de la generación de móviles “Moto”, debido a la compra de la firma Motorola por parte de Lenovo.

Por suerte, un día después fue la propia Motorola quien desmintió este rumor, y aclaró todas las dudas surgidas: los Moto no van a desaparecer sino que van a convivir junto a los “Vibe” de Lenovo. Delante de estas palabras, algunos fans de Motorola no se quedaron tranquilos del todo, ya que cabía la posibilidad de que Lenovo limitaría su crecimiento y daría más importancia a los dispositivos “Vibe”.

Desmentida toda duda sobre la desaparición de dispositivos Moto en el MWC

Ha sido hoy mismo en el Mobile World Congress cuando el CEO de Motorola, Rick Osterloh y la Senior VP de Marketing y Comunicaciones Adrienne Hayes, han explicado delante las cámaras la verdad sobre de Motorola y sus terminales “Moto”, y como van a convivir con el gigante de Lenovo, quienes recientemente han anunciado una nueva familia de tablets.

En palabras de Osterloh:

“Motorola continua existiendo”, y añade “El nombre de nuestros productos que hemos escogido – y hemos estado usando – es Moto, así que Moto continúa existiendo [..]

Eso sí, a partir de ahora, siempre de la mano de Lenovo y sus “Vibe”. En consecuencia, sus nuevos y desconocidos smartphones podrían venir con el nombre de “Lenovo Moto X” o derivados.

Aún así, desde Motorola aseguran que ambas líneas de móviles seguirán sus tradicionales estéticas y distintivos, así que en cierto modo esta burocracia entre empresas no será visible en sus productos, tanto desde el punto de vista de dispositivos Moto o Vibe. Lo que sí que se espera son nuevos avances en ellos, ya que a partir de ahora ambos equipos de desarrollo trabajarán en conjunto por el bien de ambas compañías.

Precisamente, así lo han querido expresar ambos ejecutivos de Motorola: esta compra solo pretende la colaboración entre desarrolladores y la mejora e innovación en todos sus dispositivos para garantizar el éxito que tanto Motorola como Lenovo han conseguido por separado. En definitiva, esperemos que así sea, y pronto conocer noticias sobre nuevo terminales fruto de esta colaboración. First Samsung Galaxy S7 teardown reveals heatpipe CPU cooling

Not a full day since Samsung unpacked the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge and crafty Russians over at hi-tech.mail.ru managed to tear an S7 apart and show its insides. Some of what they discovered you already know from Samsung’s keynote, while yet other bits of info make up intel you can only get with a heat gun, guitar picks, and lots of patience.

For starters, the S7 is dismantled from the back, like the previous generation, which means that replacing a battery would be easier, and replacing a display would require harder work. The back Gorilla Glass panel is glued to the frame, and it is that glue that provides the waterproofing – there is no gasket. So if you’re doing any DIY repair work, you’re certainly going to end up with a non-waterproof device. The SIM/microSD slot does get a gasket though.

The reviewers point out the use of a heat pipe for cooling the Exynos 8890, a first for Samsung. In our repeated benchmark runs on the floor of MWC, it seemed to be doing a great job of keeping temperature in check, even if it did get a little warm.

The buttons get praised for being a more reliable solution than most, even if that seems speculative. Layer by layer, the various chips are revealed, and extra points are awarded for removable components, which are not directly soldered to the main board.

Oh, and the Galaxy S7 was left unharmed in the end, for those that care.

Business-focused HP Elite x3 unveiled, comes with Windows 10, SD820, and 4GB RAM

At the ongoing Mobile World Congress, HP has unveiled a Windows 10 smartphone that it claims can be used as a full-fledged laptop as well as desktop. Dubbed Elite x3, the device offers some high-end specs, including Snapdragon 820 SoC, and 4GB RAM.

The handset has 64GB of internal memory (which can be further expanded to 2TB via microSD), and packs in a large 4,150mAh battery that can be wirelessly charged. The phone also utilizes biometrics – there’s an iris scanner on the front and a fingerprint scanner at the back (the latter wasn’t present on the unit shown at MWC).

The Elite x3 also utilizes the Windows 10 Continuum feature that allows you to use the handset as a PC replacement whenever you want. One problem with Windows 10 phones until now has been that they can’t run full desktop apps. HP is aiming to solve the problem by offering an app catalog – dubbed HP Workspace – that’ll give you access to virtualized apps on the new device.

HP has also built a couple of accessories for the phone. These are the Desk Dock and Mobile Extender – both are optional. The former includes a DisplayPort, two USB-A and one USB-C port, as well as a wired Ethernet port.

On the other hand, the Mobile Extender is basically a 12.5-inch diagonal display notebook form factor that wirelessly connects with the Elite x3 to offer a laptop-like experience. HP says the phone will be available this summer, although no exact date or month was mentioned. As for the price, it will be disclosed “closer to date of availability.”
