Una de las grandes novedades del año 2015 y este presente 2016, ha sido la distribución de Android 6.0, la última gran actualización del sistema operativo de Google, cuyas novedades te contamos en Andro4all. Una de las grandes novedades que nos prometió Google fue la de poder instalar nuestras aplicaciones en la tarjeta microSD, la cual se podría formatear para funcionar como memoria interna, como te contábamos hace un tiempo.

Esto podría suponer una revolución para Android, ya que con esta función se acabarían los problemas de almacenamiento en todos los dispositivos. Por desgracia Google no nos ha contado toda la verdad, y por los grandes foros de tecnología se está comentando todo lo que hay detrás de esta función. ¡Sorprendente!

MicroSD como memoria interna: una verdad a medias

El procedimiento es simple y en un principio parece la panacea sobre el almacenamiento. Encendemos nuestro terminal con 6.0, nos vamos al apartado del almacenamiento y aquí vemos la opción de formatear nuestra tarjeta microSD como almacenamiento interno. El proceso es rápido y si la microSD es de buena calidad no nos dará ningún aviso de que podemos perder velocidad.

El problema viene cuando accedemos a la anterior memoria interna del teléfono (no la microSD) y vemos que las aplicaciones siguen instaladas ahí. Aplicaciones como Facebook, WhatsApp y las propias de Google no pueden guardarse en la tarjeta SD, y en muchas ocasiones, estas son las que más problemas de espacio nos dan.

La idea está bien planteada, pero se queda a medio camino, ya que muchísimas apps no podrás moverlas a la microSD. Las fotos, la música y el multimedia sí que se puede mover a la SD, cosa que ya se podía hacer en Android Lollipop

En el caso de que queramos descargar juegos pesados u otro tipo de app puntual que ocupe bastante espacio, esta función puede ayudar. Sin embargo, el catálogo de aplicaciones es demasiado reducido. Para empezar, Google debería permitir que sus apps se pudieran instalar en la microSD, el resto es cosa de los fabricantes.

Creemos que Google va por el buen camino cada vez que lanza una actualización, pero siempre nos deja con la miel en los labios. Algunos terminales de la competencia permiten instalar prácticamente la totalidad de las apps en la microSD. Estamos convencidos de que Google podría mejorar esta función, advirtiendo siempre al usuario de que la funcionalidad de la misma dependerá de la calidad de la tarjeta microSD que se utilice.

T-Mobile brings back ‘fourth line free’ family promo

With the amount of promos that T-Mobile runs, it can be more than a little confusing to keep track of the carrier’s current offers. Today brings us yet another T-Mobile promo, with the company reviving its popular “fourth line free” promo for families. Essentially, this means that you have the choice of two plans that offer you four lines for the price of three.

Here’s what it breaks down to. For $120 per month, you can get four lines with 10GB of data each, as well as unlimited talk and text. For $150 per month, you can get four lines with unlimited LTE data, talk and text. All in all, it’s actually one of T-Mobile’s simpler deals.

The especially good piece of news is that the promo is open to more than just new customers. Existing customers can give T-Mobile a call or head into their nearest store to take advantage of this promo for their family. If you already have four lines, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take advantage of this and get the fourth line free. There’s no pre-planned end date to indicate how long you can keep the pricing, but T-Mobile’s policy ensures that you’ll be able to keep the unlimited LTE plan for at least two years.

This offer will only be available for a limited time and T-Mobile hasn’t given a specific close date, so you may want to hurry if you’re planning to take advantage of this.

Marshmallow beta comes to Galaxy Note 5 in U.S.

HTC reports Q4 2015 financial results – upward trend, but still in the red

HTC has released its financial report for Q4 2015, which in the case of the Taiwanese company is the quarter ending on December 31, 2015 (in the US that same period would be Q1, 2016). The consolidated results show a continuation of a positive trend for HTC, though it’s still far from breaking even.

The company reports a TWD 3.4 billion net loss after taxes, or roughly $101 million. That number was $139 million in Q3 and $252 million for the previous three months, so the upward trend is clearly visible. Revenue is quoted at TWD 25.7 billion ($766 million), which puts a halt on the free fall the company had been experiencing for the past year.

This quarter’s growth is attributed partially to the warm reception of the HTC One A9 in Asia, the US and Europe, and also the Desire series selling well during the holiday season. The UA HealthBox also got a mention in the report, though being announced in January, it can’t really account for any cash brought in during the reported period, if ever.

A couple of caveats though. Only these two specific styles are part of the offer, one for each smartphone. If you’ve chosen a different case/cover, entering the promo code will add the correct one, deduct its price, but still keep the one you originally selected, so make sure you delete it.
